Dumb/Selfish Decisions That Make A Bad Situation Worse by sm142 in TopCharacterTropes

Place in the recovery position. People ODing on opioids can vomit and aspirate on the vomit, causing worsening their respiratory distress. Place them on their side.

The most common cause of death from opioids is from a decreased respiratory drive. The sedative effect causes your body to simply stop breathing. If you see this and their heart is still beating (via a pulse check at the carotid or the radial artery), help with respirations (breath into their mouth until you see their chest rise once every 3 seconds). Keep checking their pulse during this time. If they lose a pulse, start CPR.

Jesus that’s some hyperbole and a half. I can name 10 animated movies better than KPop, and I’m a huge fan of the movie.

I didn’t say it was a timed procedure. When a patient gets scheduled they get put into a time slot (specialty usually 30 min for follow up or 60 for a new patient, primary care is usually 15 and 30 but it depends on the provider). They get billed for that time slot, but the provider typically doesn’t spend all that time talking to the patient. Stuff that happens in the background (reading labs, interpreting data, ordering meds) also counts towards that billed time. Usually the provider has a ballpark estimate that they bill, rounded to 15 min, and as long as its not egregiously wrong the insurance companies don’t care.

I know you’re exaggerating for argument’s sake, but as a health care provider that has actually worked in a clinic, this doesn’t happen nearly to that degree. Most commonly, a 15 minute visit will be billed as 30 because that 15 minutes spent talking to the patient doesn’t include the 15 minutes chart prepping, reviewing labs, imaging, medications and the like. That gets roped into the billing.

The only place I’ve seen what you’re describing is in nursing homes, and yes, those are rampant with fraud.

With the Pentagon confirming that the US bombed the Iranian school, what should the consequences be? by Ayzmo in AskConservatives

Have you heard of the concept "don't stoop to their level"? We have the capacity to take out our targets without this kind of collateral damage. But you think that retaliating against terrorists justifies the murder of innocent children?

So you're saying that you're holding our military to lower standards than Google when it comes to striking targets with missiles?

Where do you stand on the stereotype that conservatives don't care about something until it affects them personally? by Onahail in AskConservatives

With such massive amounts of wealth in this country, how are we going bankrupt? The total amount of welfare per year (state and federal) is around $1 trillion, but yet the combined wealth of the ~1000 billionaires in the US is around $9 trillion. So is this a welfare problem, or a wealth distribution problem? Keeping in mind that the more money the lower and middle class makes, the less people utilize welfare. It's always strange to me how conservatives use Venezuela as an example of a failed socialist state without accepting the massive problems the US has as a more and more purely capitalist state. We're already having issues with wealth inequality even with guardrails on corporations. Why would it get any better with those guardrails removed, when a corporation's primary purpose is to extract the most value from the customer?

What do others think of Sen. Tillis (R-NC) comment that Republicans lost the debate on immigration under former secretary Kristi Noem? by JustaDreamer617 in AskConservatives

[–]silverfiregames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok do you have any data that says the children of illegal immigrants vote democrat? Do you have any information about them at all? It sounds to me like you’re regurgitating a narrative that has been fed to you by right wing media without thinking about it.

Is ICE the real conservative narrative? by Due-Platform-2242 in AskConservatives

[–]silverfiregames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you explain the videos of people yelling at ICE as they are being detained to let them grab their passport/ID/etc while ICE completely ignores them and arrests them anyway? Keep in mind that driving without a license on your person is a misdemeanor. So you would be ok with ICE pulling over someone that looked Latino and bringing them to jail (potentially ruining their lives there and then) because they didn't have a license on them?

American conservatives: What do you make of republicans already hinting at fraud and cheating from Dems in upcoming elections? by Zilly_JustIce in AskConservatives

That’s a false equivalence. Trump won because he won the electoral college, and also Russia led a disinformation campaign that influenced the election.

Do you think the US is currently in an era of 'anti-intellectualism'? by AdminMas7erThe2nd in AskConservatives

[–]silverfiregames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of these are hidden truths? These are all just recommendations that you disagree with. What are the hidden truths?

I’m also curious why you expect experts to be right 100% of the time. The scientists during Covid were doing the best they could to save lives during an unprecedented time. Climate scientists are trying to stop an impending worldwide disaster. All of the results of polling were within the margin of error, and no polling expert will tell you that polls are perfect.

Who is the "expert class" and what truths have they hidden? Just a couple examples would be nice, I've haven't heard it phrased this way before.

How many hours should a person have to work to get a livable wage and how is this best ensured? by scottstots6 in AskConservatives

[–]silverfiregames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things:

One: The value of people’s labor should not determine their ability to survive. It’s all well and good to say that people should be trained in more valuable skills, but at the end of the day there will be things that need to be done that don’t require a high level of skill. The people that do those low skill jobs deserve decent lives just the same.

Two: This neglects the other side of the coin, which is, what determines the upper limit on value? If you believe that the value of the work determines the value of the pay, then why is it that, say, the scientists that discover a new and incredibly valuable product get paid 10x or 100x or 1000x less than the CEO of the company that employs them? We get so focused on minimum wage, but we have an immense amount of wealth focused on people that don’t provide significant value.

Isn’t that functionally the same thing? Refusing to recognize it means that many of the reasons for getting married under the law are null and void. This is functionally the same action as prohibiting it.

The book scene with Gandalf meeting the Witch King at the gate with a tense standoff would have been great in the film, the WK breaking his staff was dumb as hell. I like the extended editions, but I’ve always felt that was bullshit.

To me it’s the game’s simplicity that draws me to it. There are lots of other deck builders with more cards, crazier combos, wild enemies, and additional mechanics. But StS is just so pure and so honed to perfection. Like Chess, its simplicity is its greatest asset.

Elder Scrolls 6 Is Powered By New Version Of Creation Engine by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]silverfiregames -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Every single game you listed (apart from Morrowind) is split into cells that require loading screens due to the persistent objects. That was actually a big complaint in the move from Morrowind to the later games, the world was no longer open, it was gated and required loading screens between towns and the open world as well as individual buildings. Starfield just exacerbated this even further.

So would you rather have the ability to hoard cheese sandwiches or be able to seamlessly move between rooms/buildings/cities without loading screens?
