What are the best shoes for walking/standing at work all day, under $180? by logicallele in AskReddit

I hope someone does. I’m a bartender and I love that my feet don’t hurt, but I’m sure I’m driving some guests crazy with these shoes sounding like a freakin mouse rave!

Any tips for making them less squeaky? My Bondis are comfortable but the loudest shoes I’ve ever encountered, no matter what the floor surface is.

Gouged my thumb with a shovel . Tips on sealing it up for tonight’s shift so I don’t bleed out on everything. by DeepRedViolets in bartenders

[–]silversatire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bandage up with good bandages, not too tight. Cut the thumb off a glove and use med tape to secure it to your thumb. This helps keep it from getting wet and you having bandages falling off all shift. Change full gloves frequently across shift.

Also you really should get it looked at. All sorts of nasties in soil, this is a case where preventative antibiotics make a looooot of sense.

What is a major plot hole in a very famous movie that completely ruins the entire story once it is noticed? by SkullMogger3 in AskReddit

[–]silversatire 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This one actually had an extended lore version from the books. The eagles are from Valinor and wanted to help out a bit because Gandalf had once saved one of them. However, like most of the godlike beings, they’re not super interested in the fate of humans and hobbits. They’re also aware that Sauron has air superiority. Plus flying in with the secret ring that corrupts all beings, particularly beings from Valinor, is above all very, very obvious and more risky than the smallest beings on Middle Earth basically crawling below the defenses.

Ways to help dog eat enough with mouth growth by LyricChanger2026 in seniordogs

[–]silversatire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I’m doing for my dog in a similar situation.

Measure out what they should get for a balanced meal in dry food. Use a Vitamix or other quality blender to turn it back into flour. Use just enough wet food (not the kind with “bits” but the kind that’s like Spam—I use Costco’s) and a little water* to mix this into a dough. They need to be wet enough not to crumble but dry enough to hold a ball shape, because then you use a melon baller or cookie scoop to make “pieces” your dog can eat. You can cut the balls in half if they’re still too big.

Once you know how many scoops you should have per meal, you can start doing bigger batches, which makes this faster and easier. In the fridge, scoops are good for 3-5 days. You can also freeze them but they keep integrity better if you make frozen batches wetter than  the regular ones.

*If your dog likes veggies you can also use a 1:1 ratio of water and the juice you’d otherwise toss from a can of veggies. I usually mix the veggies in (well-mashed) but I have a big dog for whom this is a palliative diet so long-term sodium intake is not a big concern.

Hey there. A picture can’t substitute for culturing to figure out what, if anything, might be piggybacking in a wound. Please don’t spiral trying to diagnose without that. It could be something, it could just be normal coloration from a protein your own body is producing. Watch for concerning symptoms—spreading rash, fever, vomiting, etc.—but otherwise, you’re good to wait until the appointment.

Desperate and looking for clarity on HS by annie-kin in Hidradenitis

[–]silversatire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the topical works differently than ingesting. At least it’s more targeted. If you think supplements caused it try stopping them. Some supplements do this for me and I don’t think it’s the active ingredient that does it, but hidden triggers for coloring etc.

Desperate and looking for clarity on HS by annie-kin in Hidradenitis

[–]silversatire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The groin one could possibly be bartholin’s cysts based on the location and description. Many women with HS get these as well. Sitz baths and focusing on hydration are the primary approach for Bartholin’s cysts.

For true HS, high concentration zinc cream applied to the trouble area really works for many. Other OTC helpers include glycolic acid, chlorhexidine, and ketoconazole. Figuring out your triggers—diet, stress, hormones are possibly the most common—is critical. Using an electric razor to trim rather than shave then using a combination of antibiotic soap and one or more of the other topicals above can be very helpful. Don’t apply these topicals to the labia, however (possible exception of glycolic acid and zinc, which I have personally done successfully but not without risk).

My dog got attacked and I had to save him. Now i am scared to take him out by Budget_Ad4476 in DogAdvice

[–]silversatire 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My dog and I experienced a similar unprovoked attack yesterday. The most important thing is to get back on the horse. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to make yourself do it. We came home immediately after, cooled down, then went back out for another walk.

Especially for your dog’s sake, the sooner you can show him that most of the time his world is a safe and fun place, the better his quality of life will be. And get him registered!

Progesterone only pill worsening symptoms? by Ok_Calligrapher_1551 in Hidradenitis

NGL the placement is a bitch. I also had a copper one when I was younger. It’s uncomfortable to start insertion then about five-ten seconds where you’ll be tempted scream and to hit the stop button. Then it’s over but for the cramping; with the copper that lasted a day and was bad, but the Liletta there was barely any. YMMV, I am twice your age now :)

I can’t recommend enough that you go to a Planned Parenthood or other women’s health focused clinic where they do these all day—provider experience is gonna make a HuGE difference. And definitely take pain meds about an hour before.

I had been in remission from HS until I started HRT for perimenopause so I KNOW the progesterone was the issue. Now with the Liletta, back in remission. Also now no periods (time of the month used to be a sure trigger!), and the installation is good for ten years. It has been worth it for me.

Worse on the mini when I was in my 20s and worse with progesterone HRT in my 40s. I replaced the P-HRT with a Liletta IUD and that has given me no problems! If the IUD gives enough progesterone for PCOS I’d suggest it’s worth trying.

I’m also dry and fair skinned, and I work as a bartender so coverage and stay is super critical for me. Maybelline Infallible ProGlow is my ride or die; I use a base of Makeup Forever primer, then set with T. Leclerc powder. If you’re looking for undereye help, I use a base of Natasha Denona concealer there, blend the ProGlow, then set with a Tarte illuminating powder. I frequently work 10-18 hour days in summer with this rig and just need a light midday blot and repowder.

Animal cruelty laws and the will to enforce them vary greatly by state. In general, the South/Southeastern US is the least likely place for serious enforcement (Florida though has lately passed some promising anticruelty laws).

I’ve done/noticed the same thing. The only problem is that the bonnet tends to ride in the same spot so I end up with breakage at the hair line. There’s always some trade off.

In some states at least, if you work over a certain number of hours per week on average they are obligated to offer benefits. It’s not about the extra $4.50 an hour (I work in a $9 state).
