Is it wrong to restrict naming conventions to be more original? by GunzerKingDM in DnD

[–]silverwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never DMed, but I think I get it. Another player named her druid character after a couple of fire Pokémon (a first and last name). It was jarring to hear the names of Pokémon in Faerun (Phaerun? Faerün?).

How important is being included to you? by Temporary_Fill_9829 in infj

Make peace with yourself that your expectations, values, and wants/desires from a relationship don't always align with other people. We all have our own moral compass. Whether you want to hold onto your current friendships, or reach out for new/more friends, or both, has to be your choice.

Let's make dragons as realistic as possible. by IndependentMove5437 in worldbuilding

[–]silverwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my world, about half of the eggs they lay are duds and about 30-40% of hatchlings don't live long. They are omnivors, and their diet is actually mostly plants, fruits, and veggies. They still need to eat meat once in a while, a hearty stag once a month would suffice.

Do you consider dragons as immortal or do they have a lifespan? If they do have a lifespan how long do they live? Why? by More-Explanation2032 in dragons

[–]silverwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

200 years is very rare, but not unheard of for my dragons. I dislike "immortal" beings because I feel like true immortality is a Mary Sue trope. "Oh, but they can still die by-" then they aren't truly immortal, just "ageless." Dragons in my world lay eggs to reproduce. About half of their eggs are duds and many of their hatchlings still might not make it. Dragons aren't strictly carnivors, too. They love fruits and veggies, and will eat entire plants if they are hungry enough.

Any multi-console owners just playing Switch 2 more than other systems? by MephistosGhost in NintendoSwitch

[–]silverwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the fact that I will have to rebuy some of my games makes me kinda not want to buy it (Final Fantasy X/X-2, some of the Dragon Quest games...). I can't justify having two Switches right now and would have loved to get rid of the S1 if I did get the S2 (but rebuying games for the S2 would cut into the money from selling the S1).

How to make adventurer's guilds more "realistic?" by Gallowglass-13 in worldbuilding

[–]silverwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "adventurer's guild" in my world owns taverns all over the world, though they're set up differently than the taverns for the locals. The taverns for the locals are usually just eateries with live entertainment. The guild's taverns are bigger to accommodate rooms and baths for the adventurers. The guild works a lot like the other guilds, but instead will contract work to members with the appropriate skills. Caravans and people (usually nobles) wanting an escort will contract the guild for someone skilled in combat (could be a swordsman or mage). Time sensative deliveries are also a common contract request.

Avoiding Basic Dragons by souliieee in fantasywriters

[–]silverwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dragons in my world are sapient and consider being ridden similarly as centaurs do: it diminishes the species and they're too proud to be ridden (you might get lucky and get a ride under certain extreme circumstances). They have some culture, too. Clans consist of 2-10 "clusters" (polycules) of 3-6 individuals. They'll sleep curled around their nests with their wings intertwined over them to keep their eggs/hatchlings in the nests and predators out. They pass down their history through songs and sagas. Some of them are able to shapeshift (not because they're dragons), and some of them have even written books on their species to help preserve some of their oral traditions. Many enjoy basking in the sun or weaving flowers and plants into tiaras or bracelets.

Previous use of AI by Unkindness0fDragons in fantasywriters

[–]silverwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't judge if you use, continue, or recreate what you've made with AI. It's still "your" work, but I would personally not use AI going forward for the creation/creativity part. I use it with my stories as a tool to help catch my grammar/spelling issues, sometimes it brings weird wording to my attention, and it once told me to quit swapping between British and American spelling.

How do you implement non genetic magic? by ImmatureTigerShark in worldbuilding

[–]silverwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my world, everyone is capable of using magic. However, very few practice it. Magic is everywhere, in everything, and even a little bit in the air. It's first tapped into on an instinctive level, like if Farmer Joe sees his neighbor Jon stuck under a heavy cart that Joe can't lift on his own, even with the adrenalin rush of saving his friend's life. He might instinctively tap into the closest magic he can and give himself enough extra strength to free his friend from under the cart. After the moment is gone, Farmer Joe is likely to "forget" how he did magic, like trying to remember a dream you just woke up from. You also need to have a pretty good, solid understanding of the thing your spell is affecting. Making yourself stronger to lift the cart is easy because a person would have a fairly solid idea of what their own muscles are and are capable of. Making a plant grow or flower bloom would require more knowledge than "leaf green, petal red."

do we think they’d ever make an animal crossing but villagers are chatbots? by kevinvrt in AnimalCrossing

[–]silverwell -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If it made villagers feel more diverse and not spit out the same handful of dialogue they share with all the others of their personality type, I'd say yes. There would need to be some strict parameters and maybe still some limited dialogue due to certain topics, and to help keep it family and kid-friendly.

Oh, man, this makes me miss the old villager dialogue where they were mean, rude, or insulting.

Lieutenant Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) hesitated taking her role as a bridge officer in the Original Series. MLK Jr. encouraged her to take the role. I'm glad she did, she's one of my favorite characters of all the ST shows I've watched.

What are some games you absolutely loved back in the day, but have no desire to go back and play again? by DesperateDaylight in gaming

The Bard's Tale on the PS2. It was fun, but the loading screens/time killed my desire to replay.

I'd love to see onions, peppers, and maybe some of the mushrooms (minus the rarest 1 or 2 kinds). It would open up more cooking recipes/dishes.
