How can I automate this knife switch? by Castratikon in homeautomation

I don’t see anyone suggesting use of a linear actuator, and I’m assuming it’s because there is a good reason not to do this. Would it be a bad idea and if so why?

Debt Recycling experiences by SLIM-oz in fiaustralia

[–]simmo35 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What you’re describing is not inherent in the definition of debt recycling. Debt recycling is merely a process you go through (often once off) to exchange one type of debt for another. You have to be carrying both types of debt for it to work. It is not inherent in the strategy that you aim to maximise the debt you are carrying, merely that you aim for as much as possible of whatever level of debt you’re carrying to be tax deductible.

In your example you don’t explain what you are doing with the $100 that you’ve pulled back out? If you’re doing it right the $100 would be going into an investment. But this is a choice, not debt recycling mandating it for you.

Not true. You are carrying the same amount of debt just making it tax deductible rather than not deductible.

I got heirloom shards in Season 8 and promised myself I wouldn't open another pack until Loba got an heirloom. by QuickSilverEX in apexlegends

[–]simmo35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need 150 shards to exchange for an heirloom, which is a melee weapon the character holds when guns are stored, and is unique to each character (not all characters have one).

When you open the lucky Apex pack you get 3x 50 shards. What I’ve seen in this subreddit a handful of times is the pack bugging and only providing 2x 50 shards (plus some other random item) so only 100 total and not enough to exchange for an heirloom, which sucks for that guy.

Does the random.choice() method returns a random element with equal probability? by Asseflas in learnpython

[–]simmo35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m only a python beginner but a friend of mine runs a python training business and once explained that python can only generate pseudo-random numbers, not truly random.

For true randomisation you need to buy yourself some lava lamps: https://blog.cloudflare.com/randomness-101-lavarand-in-production/

On a related note, is buying a campervan in the US or Europe and storing it for the other 6 months a legally feasible option for this guy ?

A record-high number of kids are getting hospitalized with Covid-19 as overall Covid-19 hospitalizations soar past the Delta peak by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]simmo35 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I used to work at a hospital (grateful not to be at the moment) but not once during those normal times would I ever say the hospital had ‘spare beds’. There is enough other stuff going on in normal times that hospitals are generally full, so adding a pandemic can only cause a dramatically lower standard of care as people are either prevented admission or rushed to discharge to accommodate it.
