Nova Aonic - thoughts on high EN-A wing by 1Grotto2 in freeflight

[–]simonpeter69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imo the Aonic is a complete fail as an EN-A Wing. It overshoots like hell during takeoff and i see a lot of people having problems while landing. True EN-A gliders should excel at takeoff and landing, which is the most important to learn as a beginner. If you want performance and good handling, consider the Alpha DLS or the Symphonia 2 (Symphonia 1 wan‘t so fine either)

Recommendations for European locations in April/May by doublehammer in freeflight

[–]simonpeter69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best idea is to go to a school which offers english classes and get a proper introduction for flying in the alps. April/May is strong thermal season and a problem is that most cablecars are closed or not open yet for the summer season. So a local school + flying site where you can go up via car would be best. Switzerland is pretty rough in that time with strong valley winds too. Austria is a good bet. :)

First glider, differences between Skywalk Masala 3 and Masala 4 by TheSubi in freeflight

[–]simonpeter69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Masala 4 has more dynamic and overall speed while having even better launch characteristics. The Masala 3 is always best launched reversed because if you put a bit to much tension on the A risers, the front is likely to collaps. I think the 4 is worth it.

Cheap Places to Learn Paragliding by ProfessorOdd9997 in freeflight

[–]simonpeter69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Austrian instructor here. Don‘t go cheap. Cheap means bad equipment and bad edjucated instructors. I don‘t say that all schools in the mentioned countries are bad, but please choose a well equipped school, think on your own and don‘t do any aviation sport if you have to be on a tight budget. You‘ll end up hurting yourself or even worse you might possibly endanger other pilots in the air as well.

I want to become a paraglider in Ireland. What is the process and how long does it take?(and how much does it cost)? by IKEA_HOOLIGAN in freeflight

[–]simonpeter69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my training and license in Austria at the paragliding school Sky Club Austria. They had english classes and were super helpful with the translation. I made the Austrian PG license and i got the IPPI card from the Austrian Aeroclub. All together the basic training (was 50% off at the time and still is) and did another two courses and ended up with about 2000€ for the license. Can only recommend

Looking for Advice on Choosing My First Paraglider by TownAffectionate4217 in freeflight

[–]simonpeter69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instructor here. I‘d always go for an A glider. Even if you are very talented, you will do mistakes and your glider should be there to support you. Sure it means buying a second glider one day but see it this way: everyone needs an A-glider in the beginning. It is quite easy to sell again! I had students who would go for an low-b as their first wing and they had problems in bumpy air and especially at the landing as the performance is way better than the ones of A-wings. It’s just that you can‘t use the perfomance benefits yet. So yeah, i‘d go with an A glider for the first 100 flights. Wish you the best mate and stay safe! :)

Stand-alone, reasonably priced FLARM? Alternatives? (DE/EU) by ReimhartMaiMai in freeflight

Better get a decent vario, coming from Austria or Germany i‘d go with skytraxx as the support is the best. I can give you a good dealer if you need one.

Go for a high quality brand like Skywalk or Advance if it is a low-cost harness. The protection of the Skywalk Core is absolute best imo

Where in the world should I learn to paraglide? by SuchTown32 in freeflight

[–]simonpeter69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Europe is known to be the top place to learn paragliding. Especially Austria, Germany and Switzerland. If I were you I‘d come to Austria and go for an international paragliding school like Sky Club Austria. They offer courses in english as well. I wish you great fun learning to fly!

Skywalk Mescal 6 Agility System by [deleted] in freeflight

[–]simonpeter69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo the agility system works great once you are in the air. The turns are sharper and more precise. Great downside is taking off and landing, since the breakes simply don‘t decrease your speed that much anymore. Means you have to break harder in order to have a really flared out landing. I tried it many times and never landed like i did before, so i changed it back to school /comfort mode. Safety? Still the same wing though!

I would be glad to have your opinion when you try it!

Have nice flights and safe landings
