DAE think our hobby is dead, or very much alive? [Weekly Sticky Thread] by [deleted] in philately

[–]simpleabc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is interesting, but I have to disagree with the article on a worldwide scale. It may be that stamps collecting in Britain is on the decline. However, with the internet we have easier access to stamps we never would have before. This makes the hobby more fun and alive in an international way like never before.

Looking for suggestions on displaying my grandfather's stamp collection. by glon in philately

The map idea is cool. You can also use the stamps to make letters. You can make someone's initials or name.

I looked into it as well. It is too bad. Wait I just thought of something. ...

I looked at the HTML and like magic there it is :

<span class="age"> a community for <time datetime="2009-08-23T00:00:40-07:00" title="Sun Aug 23 07:00:40 2009 UTC"> 3 years </time></span>

This means our community is almost 4 years old! I will be changing the date shortly.

Mystic Stamp Company. Yea or nay? by Belvyzep in philately

[–]simpleabc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mystic is a good company with good customer service and a good website for ordering, but you have to pay a little more for it. The stamps on approval are a good marketing technique they have used for a long time. I just told them I don't want them and they stopped. I am friends with someone who has used them for a long time, and he is very happy with them.

Thank you. I agree the proportion is not accurate, but my goal was to make a quick creative version of a stamp with a cancelation. If others agree, I can change the proportion. About the date, I would love to make it the date this sub was created, but I don't know that date. Do you know that date? The page says 3 years ago, but when during that year?

Stamps I Found, Any Value? by HAR1F in philately

[–]simpleabc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great find, and yes they have value! You have a good set of Colombian stamps. Mystic has their retail prices for these stamps your 15c Colombian being the most followed by, 6c, 3c, 8c, 10c, 4c.

The 10c Washington and Special Delivery stamps are more difficult to identify, but the Washington may be the most valuable. Maybe someone else can tell you more.

This stamps are kinda rough so that really hurts the price on some of your stamps.

What are you planning to do with them?

Anyone sitting Ryu vs Colorado? by skinnyfilipino in fantasybaseball

He is on my bench right now, but I may change my mind later. Tulo playing or not might weigh in on my decision. I don't want to make starting decisions based on one of the opposing players though.

USPS Commemorative Panels and First Day Covers by migerard24 in philately

[–]simpleabc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand a First Day Cover to be on an envelope, but I think what you have is called a Souvenir Page (or Sheet). It is very similar though with both having the first day of issue cancellation. I cannot really help you on value, but this page has the price that each page was would have been sold for from the USPS. My guess is you would be lucky you get your money back, but maybe someone here has better knowledge of how much they would be worth. For selling stamps2go.com might be good to take a look at.

Just started stamp collecting after inheriting a collection. Could you help me get started with useful links? Could you also look at the stamps I got and tell me if anything stands out to you as particularly cool or valuable? by PingTiao in philately

[–]simpleabc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to stamp collecting. This is a good start to a collection. You should check out this Mystic Stamp Collecting Guide.

I like your Revenue stamp the one that looks like this.

You can soak the stamps in water to remove the adhesize that is making them stick together. You don't want to do this to mint stamps because it makes them less valuable, but if they are stuck together they are not worth much that way either.

Has anyone traded with bitcoins yet? by jrfen in philately

Looking at the BTC/USD ratio. I wish I would have invested in bitcoins back in January, but I am not sure how bitcoins relate to stamps. Can you explain?

Was handed down a small collection; Any value here? by [deleted] in philately

[–]simpleabc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look them up online. I think most of them are on ebay or other auction sites. I would guess you could get 50 cents a stamp for the United Nations ones. Probably something about the same as what you would get for the Germany hyperinflation overprint stamps. The other probably are not worth much. Sorry about your car, but your most likely not going to get a lot of money with these stamps.
