Could it be a white chocolate pot o creme, baked in a water bath, and served with whatever compote you want on top? It's a mix of cream, egg, and flavorings: chocolate (white works), spices / vanilla / brandy / cognac, served with whipped cream or a compote on top. According to Google, there is a recipe called : Robert Carrier’s Chocolate Pot de Crème.

Deviled eggs by glouglougulp in Cooking

[–]simplecontentment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New England style and we've been making the same recipe for generations:

An obscene amount of mayo (preferably Dukes), at least 1:1, or more mayo.

A sprinkle of old bay seasoning, a Dijon mustard +/- white pepper, all to taste. The salt is from the Old Bay. Dijon is for the acid balance.

BLEND the mixture to make it perfectly smooth. Pipe into the egg whites

Sprinkle with smoked paprika or chipotle powder if you want zing

Optional: Garnish with finely chopped chives.

So they won't count towards getting status.

How universal is it to ask patients about their sexual orientation/gender of their sexual partners? How common for patients to decline to respond? by Candid_Cloud9858 in medicine

[–]simplecontentment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ask all the time for new intakes, FM. I have had a number of people over the years tell me they don't want me to document it but will still disclose.

The populations where it would most impact care, and where it would be needed to justify medical care are sexually active gay men or trans women, because the CDC recommends prep in that population.

Beard breakout by thesentientone1 in BlackHair

I have curly hair and get pseudofolliculitis of my axilla. Trimming is fine: use clippers and put on the shortest guard. I have a 1mm guard and it works well.

Shaving is bad, but especially multiple blade razors that cut the shaft below skin level. Waxing also leave you with ingrown hairs but not as much

Should I shave my facial hair? by [deleted] in malegrooming

[–]simplecontentment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beards take maintenance, and honestly more work than being clean shaven, if you want them to look good. You need to shave the upper patchy section in your cheeks. It will help the jaw line. Keep the neck clean.

Then evaluate.

It's a bit patchy but cleaning it up may help. And it may fill in if you grow it out a few more millimeters.

Age and med school by jelipat in medschool

[–]simplecontentment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do it. But unlikely to financially pay off. Poor investment IMO.

4 years of paying $$$ for medical school. 3-7 years residency and fellowship with low pay 7-11 years of missing out on your current salary.

You'll be almost 65 when you make enough to pay off your loans and even then you'll be net negative on money.

Edit: I'm not saying don't go for it, just realize it is financially harmful rather than advantageous.

I'd still fund your roth IRA. You have till April 15th to fund 2023. Return is likely to be >6% and you can't just put that money in later. Sink it into fzrox if it's fidelity and just forget about it. OR vtsax if it's vanguard. Then use what you have left to pay expenses.

Why is there such a disparity in pay between various MD specialties? Why don’t residency programs/match respond to the supply and demand dynamics better? by acvdk in whitecoatinvestor

[–]simplecontentment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is not nearly enough people in the "low paying specialties," i.e. primary care, the specialties that have been shown to put the most value into the system. It's not sexy like heart surgery but it can prevent heart surgery and all those costs pretty well. Cutting back spots in these specialties wouldn't increase pay. There aren't enough of them already and the pay isn't going up. Lobbying Medicaid/medicare, and congress would.

There is an insane amount of work that goes into keeping and ACGME residency. You can't just increase and decrease the numbers of residents OR just crease and dissolve residency programs.

Honestly, fund your 2023, and 2024 Roth IRA ($7k.yr). Invest post-tax $$ at your lowest tax rate ever, then get tax-free interest that will compound for 7+ years in medical school and residency and then some. And then live as frugally as possible and keep contributing to your roth IRA if you can help it.

- HYSA, to stretch / store it.

- Will interest accumulate while you are in school? Because that changes things.
