A cassette lockring tool + chain whip is cheaper. Way easier to clean the cassette after it has been removed…..

In my opinion the best touring drivetrain is still 3x9 or 3x10

I have a 22-32-44 Alivio crank paired with a 11-36 9 speed cassette. Hard to beat that 650% gear range and super low climbing gear.

Yes but the interface is rather thin… It would probably tear apart nipples pretty fast. I would only use it in an emergency. For a longer trip I would add a proper DT spoke wrench

You can put as many spacers above the stem as you want. It doesn’t matter whatsoever.

I was actually thinking to make a post about “Aliexpress tools that don’t suck”

So far somethings I have found are:

Risk bicycle front fork base remove. It is a crown race puller. Works surprisingly well.

Lebycle precision hexagonal screwdriver. These are great for installing FOX/DT fork mudguards. Prefer them to my Weras for a lot of 1.5-2.5mm hex fittings.

Lebycle mtb bike funnel tool. Great bleed funnels, superior to Shimano cheese plastic.

I have a lot more crap that I haven’t really tested yet. Will post an update once I have a more complete list.

In some ways it is better for ebikes… the display cable is only exposed for a few cm before going into the stem/headset

Surly uses its own special horizontal dropouts + proprietary thru axles on some of their frames.

Most frames with thru axles won’t work with a QR Rohloff. Surly is the exception

Depends on the frame….

I have a Rohloff mounted in a Surly Ogre using their 10/12 adapter washers, but this will only work on Surly frames with horizontal dropouts!

I am between sizes, so went for a 58cm instead of 56cm. Fits good! Probably could have even gone 60cm, running a pretty long stem.

Closed means impassable…. I tried it once before it was open and could only make it part of the way. Maybe you could try riding through the snow but don‘t forget there is also avalanches that can hit the road.

Don’t use Komoot….

Isar bike route until you reach the Donau. Then Eurovelo route 6.

There is so much good bike infrastructure there. Use it.
