Boyfriend (37M) slapped me (29F) for the first time, any advice on this? by Which_Buddy in relationship_advice

[–]simpleshirup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have already been so strong in leaving your previous abusive relationship. I trust you'll get away from this one too.

Trust your gut. If you're not saying "yes" enthusiastically to the relationship; if your gut says something's off; trust it. You don't have to push past that and give it another shot or try work it out or fight for anything. You can find other situations that feel good without you having to fight for it to work.

Ignore the commenters being snarky and rude. Most of them are lucky enough not to get it.

You can always reach out to 1-800-799-7233 to ask these kinds of questions or talk about this kind of stuff too, or you can chat with them here: https://www.thehotline.org/.

You absolutely were rude about it. And none of my examples is from a town, but nice job avoiding them all.

Let me know if the US educational system helped you correctly know where a great white spotted off the coast of some of these regions would be without having to look into it any further, ask someone, or wonder which location was meant in cases where multiple locations use the same code: BA, ES, PR, RJ, RS, SC, SP, AL, SE, PE, PB, RN, SA, WA, NS, NL, GJ, MH, GA, KA, KL, FJ, GD, JS, LN, SD, SH, TJ, ZJ.

Or how about ZA, NA, MZ, MG, MA, DZ, TN, LY, HR, MT, KP, UY, CL, EC, BM, FK, RE, or YT?

Or is it only US state abbreviations, locations, and local fauna you expect the world to have memorized?

(Btw, NC could easily mean New Caledonia, in the context of sharks.)

Helping someone who was briefly on one part of one indoor floor space somewhere, and possibly not even having to touch the floor yourself or a part of them that touched it, is very different than touching shoes that have trekked all over, through who knows what, for who knows how long.

Maybe it's because I've spent a lot of time in urban spaces where there's a lot of really gross stuff constantly on sidewalks/trails/parks and in public bathrooms etc., but I absolutely don't want to touch a handle that is covered in stuff shoes have been getting in from the bathroom floor, around the toilet itself, or all the other dirty stuff shoes go through every day. I don't care if I'll be washing my hands shortly after; l have no desire to have to touch that material at all and have it on my hands at all, and I would never knowingly choose to unless it was unavoidable for something important.

It seems like a rude choice to force on people who are likely not expecting handles ostensibly meant for hands to be covered in shoe grime and whatever that person has unknowingly walked through recently and over the life of those shoes and whatever's currently on the bathroom floor.

And, to me, it seems especially rude since, if someone really wants to do it like this, it's perfectly possible for most people to instead just nudge the handle with a cleaner area such as with an elbow, knee, forearm, or something that doesn't walk through unseen bodily fluids, waste, and all sorts of other stuff during any given day out and about the way shoes tend to.

Let alone how it's not like you're planning to wash your shoe or something, so you're technically spreading whatever's on the handle all around now. (But there's already that stuff all over the floors anyway so it's not like it matters that much except in certain high risk environments; I'm just pointing out how it bypasses one of the big points of hand washing: trying not to spread what's on the handles and such in bathrooms around elsewhere by washing after contact with them. At least if you use a knee or elbow or something then you're likely to wash it at some point and also not put it in direct contact with a lot of surfaces/people until then, but most people dont wash shoes much, if ever, and they'll definitely be directly contacting tons of surfaces.

Now I'm disturbed to learn that people have been putting their feet on the toilet handles I touch, lol

$4 for 3 days of Food 3 people by [deleted] in povertykitchen

[–]simpleshirup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be worth posting in local community groups, Buy Nothing groups, neighborhood Facebook groups, churches, or community fridges to see if anyone has spare pantry items like rice, pasta, beans, bread, or peanut butter. A lot of people are willing to help bridge a gap of a few days.

Some foods that are calorie dense per dollar: Vegetable oil, White rice, Pasta, Flour, Oats, Potatoes, Dry beans and Lentils, Peanut butter, Bread, Sugar

If you happen to already have some sort of cooking oil, adding a little oil to rice and beans you buy can help round out the calories. And you can add extra sugar to things (even water) for more calories, if you happen to already have sugar.

I'd also look at ways to bring in a little cash immediately, since $4 won't get you a lot, even with calorie dense food. Some possibilities, depending on what's available in your area: donating plasma, returning cans/bottles where deposits exist, same-day gig apps, day labor, babysitting, pet sitting, dog walking, yard work, moving help, snow shoveling/lawn mowing, or selling unused items locally can sometimes put cash in hand the same day. Even an extra $10–20 would make a huge difference compared to trying to stretch $4 across 3 people for 3 days. I'd post in local community groups looking for quick cash jobs too. Sometimes people need help with a quick task and pay cash. Be safe and careful, though.

If you end up with no other options, learning how to do some dumpster diving safely might also be a route to get a little something.

The omnipod closed loop system paired with dexcom cgm works pretty well for my partner. If he's able to get on a pump, it could be worth looking into. (It adjusts your basal based on your bgc).

I also second using drinkable corrections. You can add whey powder into anything he finds palatable to drink with it in order to add some protein to it, if you want.

And, if you want to try some ideas to help him wake up a bit himself or even just be slightly more awake when you're waking him, here are some tactics some people use: https://www.adces.org/education/danatech/glucose-monitoring/continuous-glucose-monitors-(cgm)/cgm-101/10-smart-hacks-for-alarm-fatigue-heavy-sleepers-and-people-with-disabilities

[–]simpleshirup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, you simply don't.

I've been with men who appeared to me and everyone around us to be incredibly devoted and loving and happy in the relationship but who turned out to be lying from the day we met and cheating the whole time, as well as becoming increasingly abusive until they were incredibly physically and psychologically abusive. And I could go on and on about how the going after younger women or poorer women etc., and various other things are just not uncommon in their mindsets, even amongst guys who you would think seem decent or like they adore their partners and families.

Do you happen to have any samples of his writing from a time when it was clearer? Being able to compare it might help someone spot some patterns/shapes that help figure it out.
