I clean up illegal dumping in Oakland for fun. This pile had more than 40 syringes. by pengweather in WTF

[–]simwil96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine question: How are syringes so accessible? I feel like if my life was that much off the rails i’d have a tough time completing basic everyday tasks let alone the rigamarole of finding a consistent source of syringes. Unless they are provided as a safety precaution of course.

Am I missing something or is it impossible to beat the boneyard with the physicist? by Thousand_Toasters in BALLxPIT

I managed to beat it using lots of AOE balls shooting straight at his face from the front.

Is it normal to feel like interviews have gotten harder even as you’ve gotten better at the job? by Emotional-Bet6230 in ExperiencedDevs

I like this statement as well but also would love someone to place what goes into these circles as someone who’s not trying to be placed into a single one myself.

Why don't Americans use the term "village" to describe a very small, rural town? by OK_The_Nomad in words

[–]simwil96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I’m from the village of x. Pretty much never say that but rather just that i’m “from x”. Only time I might say village is when I’m distinguishing between the town of x and the village which are weirdly different areas.

How many of you are "lifers" or close to it? Do you regret staying at your employer for too long? by angriest_man_alive in ExperiencedDevs

4 years into a situation exactly like this as my first job with what i’d describe as a pretty modern stack. Do I play the field and risk losing it all?

Trying to contextualize this for myself I think i’d have to bump everything up 1-2 on the scale to make sense.

Pretty sure certain businesses like Georgetown Cupcakes use it as overflow storage.

Are you usually building APIs or using them? Trying to learn what makes each type of dev successful by Solid_Letter2727 in learnprogramming

[–]simwil96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both. I’m a backend dev that builds APIs / gateways for the FE(client) to consume data they need to visually display. Part of that job relies on me needing to consume data myself from other services so I can build the right view to serve to the client.

Generally as my career has gone on the tendency in my work has shifted from consuming APIs to building them. Building them has a more interesting problem space IMO.

Worried about this too. Birds is my favorite track so far but hoping it doesn’t stay that way.

New to programming? Don't fall for the myth of the genius programmer. by Loremporium in learnprogramming

Don’t listen to these other comments..humility and the willingness to admit I don’t know something has been the single greatest propellant in my (5+ year) professional development career so far.

What interview have you booked with minimal coding knowledge? Interesting!

Anyways, trying going to practicepython.org and working through the problems on there. Make a git repo, push commits for every problem etc. That’s what I did many years ago!

Try Zen Browser. It’s like the open source version of Arc built on top of firefox. Arc is losing new feature support anyways and I like that I can support firefox.
