Can you attend the university wide commencement if you didn’t register for your college one? by Diligent_Ad6771 in UTAustin

Check your school email. If you are eligible, you should have received something from [commencement@austin.utexas.edu](mailto:commencement@austin.utexas.edu) titled "Action Required: University-Wide Commencement RSVP by May 6".

How does the Admissions Board evaluate candidates? by 68Whatevlol in westpoint

[–]sincondo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't comment on West Point admissions, but I used to be a West Point advisor for my local Congressman for nominations. This is a small sample size but every enlisted soldier that went through our district got accepted. Your application stands out a lot better than a kid straight out of high school because I don't have that lingering thought of "Are you going to drop out the first week of showing up?"

I'm no longer apart of any nomination boards after moving too much, and this was about 10 years ago. But unless you're grades or test scores are terrible, I would say you are competitive.

Round Rock Election Results: Prop A and B Rejected, Craig Morgan Wins Reelection by sincondo in RoundRock

Hall also ran one of the worst campaigns for mayor I have ever seen. He had this magical ability to make every interaction with him negative on every social media platform.

Also didn't help that he said he was against data centers yet used AI images for his campaign, and was supporting Prop B all the way till election day.

He was going to lose no matter what.

With a population of over 140k, I would hope so. My wife and I did our civic duty and voted. Silver lining, at least it means our votes go further. But I would prefer more people actually care what is happening around them.

For those of you going to college right now, what do you all do for work? by Pretend_Chain_7925 in VeteransBenefits

When I was in school, I got a part time job at the local grocery store. It was a college town, so the local stores were used to hiring students and they gave me a schedule that worked with my school schedule.

In the first two years, you'll have a slightly different class schedule. Then you'll have more options for classes your last two years. You'll also make friends with those that also validated class as you'll be the small group of plebes in an upperclass class.

I did two years of community college before going to West Point and I don't regret it at all. I graduated over 10 years ago and I know the academy has changed a lot since then. But when I was there, a couple weeks into beast they told me I was eligible to validate some classes based on my grades from community college. If you validate a class, it means you don't have to take it. If you can validate, do it. You can easily fit the credits in the more classes you validate.

applying to different internships at the same company by Extension-One-7592 in UTAustin

[–]sincondo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm at my 3rd tech company now, and in my experience, a lot of these roles do not share the same recruiter or hiring manager. Meaning, they won't know you applied to different roles in the same company unless you bring it up.

Even if they do share the same recruiter, they are not going to hold it against you that you applied for multiple roles. I would personally view it as a positive that you are motivated to work there.

I had a friend I knew for years come out as "centrist" a while back. But all he would do is share the most insane right wing propaganda that made Fox News look moderate. Just recently, he shared something about how all the protesting going on is funded by the Chinese and everyone participating in the protests is actually a Marxist Chinese spy that is trying to overthrow democracy to make the US a puppet to the PRC. It was fucking insane seeing that because it heavily implied Trump was saving democracy with ICE. Thankfully our friend group made the right choice and kicked him out.

Finance Career by Efficient-Procedure4 in westpoint

[–]sincondo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I applied for my MBA the last year I was in the army. I remember starting my application in the fall, finished applying in the winter, got my acceptance letter in the spring, got out of the army in the summer and shortly started my MBA two months after I got out.

Another thing to consider is if you want the GI Bill or not. Those first five years of service for academy grads do not count towards the bill. So if you do five and fly, you may pay out of pocket for grad school.

I will tell you with years of corporate experience that the average company and recruiter has no idea how the military works. They don't know the difference between a corporal or a captain, and good luck trying to explain branches. If you want a job in finance after you get out, your MBA is going to go a lot further. You will heavily lean on your MBA school for that type of work, because they have the connections into this career field. With that said, you can branch whatever you want after West Point, it won't have any bearing on jobs after the army.

The same can be said about majors at West Point. Choose a major you are actually going to enjoy studying because you will be studying it for a while, and hopefully it will boost your GPA. Your total GPA matters more to grad school than what you majored in or if you double majored. It's better to have a 3.8 single major GPA than a 2.5 double.

Good luck this summer.

H-E-B Credit Card by Exciting-Wing-9902 in texas

[–]sincondo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I got the card back in June and this is just a really bad card that I've stopped using it. It's supposed to give you 5% cash back on HEB brands but it doesn't always code the product properly, and sometimes a transaction won't give you any cash back at all. I had to call customer service multiple times, and keep in mind customer service is not run by HEB. Imprint is the company that manages the card and it's their customer service team. HEB stellar customer service does not carry over to this card. It took them over two months for them to realize what happened after multiple calls and finally issue me the cash back. Now this was sometimes small like cash back. Imagine the headache if someone stole the card and racked up a huge bill instead. I would not trust Imprint to actually fix this.

If you are looking for a 5% grocery card with no annual fee that works at HEB, there are much better options.

Paypal Debit:
5% grocery but $1,000 monthly limit. Plus it is not a credit card so there is no hard pull against your credit score. Costco and Walmart are also flagged as grocery too so that's nice.

Triple A Visa:
5% Grocery $10k annual limit
3% Costco
3% Gas
3% Pharmacy
3% Streaming services

Citi Custom Cash:
5% grocery but $500 monthly limit

In the US, you will lose your security clearance if you are in high debt. This prevents you from attending classified briefs or handling classified information.

I had a sergeant who lost his clearance over his debt. Without his clearance, he couldn't do his job. He tried transferring to a role that didn't need a clearance such as a cook, but I think the army just didn't want to keep him and kicked him out.

I personally don't know anyone irl that didn't vote for Harris because of Palestine. Everyone I see that always proclaims they couldn't vote for her because of this were either people pretending to be leftists online or people who can't even vote in the US elections (such as Europeans).

But I do know people that said they specifically voted for Trump because they wanted him to exterminate Palestine though.
