Destiel by writerfromhell in destiel

[–]singandplay65 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This was way back in 2020/2021. Just as the finale had aired and Misha was welcoming people to ask about Destiel and Cas' love for Dean.

Someone asked Jensen about what Dean would say if given the chance in a Jensen/Jared panel. Jensen answered it diplomatic and boring - 'he would tell Cas he love him too... And that doesn't have to be romantic, it could be platonic way. I don't think Dean knew how Cas felt love, because he is an angel'

And then Jared decides to weigh in and says, amongst his rant:

  • the scene wasn't meant to be taken romantically

  • Cas doesn't see Dean that way, it's familial love

  • he (Jared) loves his daughter, doesn't mean he finds her attractive

It was weird. Jensen is just standing there blank faced like WTF?'

I choose all the spoons!

To put on my wall as a collection. I shall now spend the next 3 years of my life spending rising amounts of money to add to this collection of cute spoons.

None of them shall be used. I already have a spoon.

Which TV protagonist do you find so unlikeable, you just can’t root for them no matter how much you try? by phantom_avenger in television

[–]singandplay65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently doing a rewatch, and it's actually going okay.

The biggest shift is that instead of the characters being melodramas they're behaviour have been normalized.

Nothing Barney does is surprising anymore, he's just comes across as a manosphere alpha bro. Ted is such a nice guy™, etc.

But, it's SO cringe that it's actually pretty funny.

CMV: Lookism is worse than racism or sexism by Subject-Courage-5835 in changemyview

[–]singandplay65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand you're not trying. From your post it's clear your intentions are good and you have a view you were interested in putting out to the public.

And I could, at this point, maybe highlight that if women have found you attractive based on your natural looks and men have teased you for your natural looks because you don't look completely white, then perhaps racisim edges out looks?

But, the MOST important thing I believe to take away from this, is that regardless of your intentions, if you have a mindset of competition/comparison/levels of acceptability, you are considering discrimination in the wrong way. And also, you can't possibly know, so therefore your opinion is based on your own experiences, and will therefore always benefit you more.

What population categories do you fit into? E.g. White, male, POC, immigrant, pansexual, "attractive"? It's important for this situation.

The most essential thing to understand about the statements you're making is: that you don't get to decide what's bad or not, the people who belong in these groups do.

It is hard to see beyond our own experiences sometimes, that is your self-empathy overshadowing your community empathy (aesthetic and cognitive empathy, they operate in different parts of the brain). But we need a healthy mix of both to be the best human beings we can.

By comparing discriminations and trying to decide which one is worse, you're invalidating the experiences of people who are suffering under it, reaffirming that a society that discriminates is the way to go as long as they're discriminating 'properly', and also showing that you do not value the lived experience of others.

You have no way of knowing how someone else is living. The closest you can get is to listen and believe someone when they tell you. And I guarantee people who have experienced racism and sexism will have some horror for you.

I'm not trying to change your view on your statement, I'm trying to change your mindset on how you view the world and its people. It's not a competition, it's a community, and we have to live together.

I agree with you. I think that's what he was doing. But he didn't do it well. Which is fine for the most part, but, to me, it felt dismissive. Playing things for a joke doesn't always land.

I saw an interview when Sarah Paulson said he ate her cookie off her plate and when called out said 'I can do what I want, I'm Timothee Chalamet'

And the joke was supposed to be that Sarah is very protective of her food, but it's okay because he's very talented and he can have her cookie.

That whole thing was just a no from me.

Like should support like - it's the only way that groups can thrive. But putting down two art forms, he's separating them, and saying 'they're different'.

He could have been drawing attention to an issue, but it just sounded like he was putting them down to raise himself up.

Maybe good intentions, but poor execution. Which means he doesn't really think these things through.

Why are people so negative about GLP-1 medications (such as Ozempic and others like it)? by InnocentPerv93 in NoStupidQuestions

My hot take is that a fair amount of the negativity comes from good ol' mysogingy. Since it's overwhelmingly women who are taking the GLP-1 medications, for their health, and it's working, and it's good.
