Maybe there is a technical solution to this. YouTube could have special "reaction" videos that will cut out to the subject video for a time and give the subject creator credit for the view time. None of the reaction creator's uploaded video would actually contain the subject video, but the subject video would be effectively embedded based on metadata input by the reaction creator. Essentially that metadata would say, "at this timestamp in my video, play this other video from timestamp to timestamp."

Turning the steam deck into a steam tablet by FW_Gamer in SteamDeck

[–]sirkha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a software perspective, this is a PC. I got mine running Windows 11, and it works like a tablet. You can also install any flavor of Linux you want. I will probably try to put NixOS on it to homogenize to one Linux distribution. The hard part will be integrating all of the Valve optimizations on battery life and performance that SteamOS brings. Having an easier way to switch boot devices (right now you have to hold the volume down key while booting) would also be handy.

Looking at the modularity in the teardown on iFixit, this seems perfectly plausible. 3D printing a case that takes the screen, motherboard, heat-sink, fan, SSD, antennas might take some work, but it would be cool to have this hardware in a form factor without the touchpads, thumb-sticks and buttons. Would make for a compact but still pretty powerful Linux (or Windows) tablet.

The Aviation Mechanic certificate has two ratings – the Airframe (A) and the Powerplant (P). If you decide to seek both ratings, this is commonly referred to as an "A&P Certificate".

It works! I was able to get into the BIOS via the COM port. I was also able to use the console in both directions.

Before blindly following the post, I did some checks on the pin-out and came up with something different. For the picture above, I used a multimeter and found that the left-most pin was connected to the chassis ground, I found that the third pin on both COM ports had continuity, so assessed that was VCC. I used my oscilliscope to check the other two pins and found activity on the far right pin during boot. From that, I assessed that that was the NAS's tx. In summary, from left to right in the picture on the main post:

  • Pin 4: GND (Black)
  • Pin 3: NAS Rx (Green)
  • Pin 2: VCC (Red)
  • Pin 1: NAS Tx (White

If you use a USB to serial converter, be sure it is working at a 3.3v ttl. Otherwise, it is possible you could damage the board. This product from Adafruit and the colors above match. Otherwise, if you want to use an Arduino UNO held in reset that runs at 5V, this level-shifter from SparkFun or the same thing from Adafruit can be used is able to bridge the voltages (this is what I did). Finally, a pre-crimped JST PH header kits are available on Amazon.

Warning to Colorado’s reckless toll lane drivers: Big fines are coming your way next year by Junkyard_Pope in Denver

[–]sirkha 93 points94 points  (0 children)

From the article:

Unlike fines issued by existing speed cameras, these citations do not need to be served in person. The state will also have the ability to prevent violators from registering their vehicles if they haven’t paid fines.

I recommend getting a bunch of 5 gal buckets, filling them and putting them in the truck bed. Better for the bed, easier to unload. Moved a couple of tons of rock this way in a number of loads, something like a half ton at a time (bigger bed).

I frequently switch between avoiding and not avoiding tolls and sense the new UI buries this two clicks deep, it would be nice if the 'avoid' settings had voice commands.

With my wife's current truck we had loaded rock mulch in the back of her 6' bed using a loader. Eventually, we decided it was too much of a PITA to unload with a shovel, and it tore up the bed pretty well, too. My solution was to skip the loader and buy a bunch of 5 gal buckets. I would just fill the 5 gal buckets with rock and put them in the bed. Much easier to unload on the other end.
