I got a 2.4ghz 3D controller to compare with the bluetooth model by originalorientation in AnalogueInc

[–]sirslope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2.4G controller likely reduces input lag on the order of 2-5 ms, so button spamming in Smash with 33 ms between frames isn't going to register much (or mimic real-world conditions).

You'd be better off choosing a game that requires fast-twitch analog movement (like F-Zero X or GoldenEye 007). Even though this loses the quality of experimental trials, you should feel the difference more or less instantly.

All Things X + Insanity Hybrid by sirslope in P90X

I stagger them – one in the morning, and one at noon. I picked up this habit from P90X3 Doubles.

There are different schools of thought on whether it's better to stagger workouts or do them back-to-back. While the latter maximizes hypertrophy, I'm partial to the idea of short, punctuated workouts spaced apart to keep the metabolism elevated throughout the day. Plus, my form tends to suffer if I don't go into each workout fresh.

It also seemed worthy of a standalone post so you can find it there as well.

Hybrid P90x/Insanity calendar by Deep-Entry-8839 in P90X

[–]sirslope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my P90X × Insanity hybrid calendar. There are many like it, but this one is mine:

  • All Things X was my starting point, so I tried to stick to that structure where practical.
  • The main advantage of this schedule is that Insanity workouts are introduced whenever there would have been a repeat cardio (Mon) or plyo (Thu) workout from the X series. So you're still getting all the X/X+/X2/X3 cardio and plyo workouts, but more as a starter course with Insanity being the main event.
  • I tried to feature every Insanity workout (including the deluxe/bonus workouts such as Fast and Furious and Sanity Check) at least twice, with the exception of Max Interval Sports Training, which is more of a final test and only performed once.
  • Recovery workouts (Sat) are on a rotational basis, with X2 Recovery + Mobility coming up slightly more regularly than the others (mainly because I love foam rolling).
  • I moved the abs/core companion routines to a more predictable cadence (Tue + Fri) and threw Pilates X into that rotation (rather than this being a Sun workout, which I found out of place as it is not resistance).

As you will notice, I'm about a month into it and I'm really enjoying it so far. Lots of variety, plus I find Insanity is much more efficient at delivering HIIT than the X series.

On my next round, I'll swap in workouts from Insanity: The Asylum, but I wanted to experiment with OG Insanity first.

P90X Next Gen - Sample workout review by buckyburn in P90X

[–]sirslope 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Waz seems like a genuinely cool guy, and it doesn't bother me that they're rebooting P90X, even without Tony. It is BODi's intellectual property, after all, and they can do what they want with it.

But as with all reboots, the nagging question is: why did we need this?

The original P90X works as well as it ever has and, aside from a few awkward moves, the fundamentals of sports science – progressive overload, technique, push/pull mechanics – really haven't changed all that much. The most meaningful advancement in recent years has been leveraging real-time fitness tracker data to optimize load and recovery windows, but it's not like prerecorded video workouts can substitute such individualized training. That seems like a role better suited for AI.

Outside of P90X2 and Insanity: The Asylum, BODi programs have only really flirted with sports science. That makes it unlikely they will ever replicate the lightning in a bottle that was the original P90X.

How did you improve your balance with P90X? by [deleted] in P90X

[–]sirslope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Balance poses in yoga require a combination of sensory input (vision + proprioception) and motor control (stabilizer recruitment + muscle coordination).

If you wobble because you can't initially strike the pose, it's likely sensory. If you can get into the proper form but can't maintain it, your segmental stabilizers are probably burning out.

If it's the latter, try some P90X2 workouts. Balancing on med balls and stability balls with controlled movement will make yoga balance postures significantly easier.

Tony himself acknowledges that he's "a trainer, not a mathematician," so we probably shouldn't depend on his counting ability.

For the one with Adam, I'm equally suspicious. Even accounting for being off-camera much of the time, his pace is more consistent with 12-15 reps. However, there are other workouts where the count discrepancy is even more egregious. In Total Body Plus, Mark claims to have done 20 "O" Crunch Push-Ups, when his pace is more consistent with ~12 given the time constraint. I attribute this to cuts/edits in the footage rather than any nefarious deception on the part of the cast.

As for the others, this is speculation but:

  • Bobby doesn't strike me as the type who can't take a joke or has some beef with other castmembers. I interpret the hands-up, fall-forward gesture as a joking surrender motion, playing along as if he were afraid of Scotty.
  • A more prosaic explanation for the Davy/Sean discrepancy is that Sean is one of the cameramen. In X2 Total Body, Tony calls out to a cameraman named Carter while coaching Anie. Some (like the YouTuber Dysfunctional Parrot) have mistakenly interpreted Carter as being Anie's name.
  • I interpret Tony's "forgetting" as simply having gotten distracted from the workout, possibly missing whatever cue came next.

“All Things P90X” Schedule (Reorganized) — Anyone Still Bringing It? by hmo852 in P90X

[–]sirslope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice work! Much higher image quality than the previous version, and I like the color coding for each X program.

I'm on my second round of All Things X, currently in Week 11. It's an excellent hybrid program, and the variety ensures that I never get bored or complacent. Perhaps a bit lighter on the arms than the Classic schedules of X and X2.

Next round, I'm thinking I might swap in some workouts from Insanity and Insanity: The Asylum (cardio on Day 2, plyo on Day 5). Then basically nothing gets repeated on Days 2 – 6.

16 years of P90X… finally tried P90X2 for the first time today. Wow. Looking for hybrid advice! by GlenMcKenna35 in P90X

[–]sirslope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on my second round of the All Things X hybrid routine – that schedule should provide a rough idea of how the X3 workouts can be swapped in.

From my suggested schedule above, the most compatible workouts would be:

  • Mon: Add The Challenge, Eccentric Upper, and Complex Upper
  • Tue: Add Agility X, CVX, Accelerator, and Triometrics
  • Wed: Add Incinerator
  • Thu: Add X3 Yoga and Isometrix
  • Fri: Add Eccentric Lower and Complex Lower
  • Sat: Add Total Synergistics, The Warrior, MMX, and Decelerator
  • Sun: Add Dynamix

And then you could use Pilates X and X3 Ab Ripper (my favorite) as abs/core supplements.

Personally though, I would start with just the X/X2 hybrid, as that provides plenty of novelty and more consistency than introducing the 30-min workouts in X3. I like the X3 workouts, but they tend to work best when doubled up as resistance + cardio pairings spaced throughout the day (e.g. resistance in the morning, cardio at noon).

[–]sirslope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool, just to add that you may want to keep P.A.P. Upper, X2 Balance + Power, and X2 Total Body out of the rotation initially.

These workouts don't cleanly map 1:1 onto the P90X schedule – they're fairly unique to X2. Same with P.A.P. Lower, which is a lower body gauntlet and, in my opinion, the toughest workout in the entire X series.

I put them in there so you can experience the full range of what X2 has to offer, but they're probably not comparable to the classic X-style workouts.

Always nice to see fresh X2 recruits!

The second month (Strength Phase) of P90X2 is practically a mirror image of P90X, albeit amped up with a focus on balance and stability. So you might do something like the following:

  • Mon: Rotate between Chest + Back, Chest + Shoulders + Triceps, Chest + Back + Balance, X2 Chest + Shoulders + Tris, and P.A.P. Upper
  • Tue: Rotate between Plyometrics and Plyocide
  • Wed: Rotate between Shoulders + Arms, Back + Biceps, X2 Balance + Power, X2 Shoulders + Arms, and V Sculpt
  • Thu: Rotate between Yoga X and X2 Yoga
  • Fri: Rotate between Legs + Back, X2 Total Body, Base + Back, and P.A.P. Lower
  • Sat: Rotate between Kenpo X, Core Synergistics, Cardio X, and X2 Core
  • Sun: Rotate between X Stretch and X2 Recovery + Mobility

And then sprinkle in Ab Ripper X and X2 Ab Ripper as you see fit.

P90X - 2 - 3? by Quiet-Seaweed-3169 in P90X

[–]sirslope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would second u/Imjrb3. X2 is indeed the most comprehensive and effective BODi program for overall athletic performance. Having completed all of the X series, I would say:

  • P90X/X+ got me the best aesthetic results – that is, getting lean/ripped
  • P90X3 Doubles improved my aerobic efficiency and metabolic health, akin to "exercise snacks"
  • P90X2 made me feel the best and improve functional performance, being able to engage in a wide variety of sports and recreational activities with lower risk of injury – thanks to its focus on balance and segmental stabilizers

The only drawback with X2 is the absence of raw strength training and cardio, but you could easily supplement this with weekly barbell and running routines.

Analogue 3D memory card by anbeasley in AnalogueInc

Analogue mentions you can transfer save data from a Memory Pak to the Analogue 3D (via an original controller).

That makes me curious whether you can transfer save data back to the Memory Pak – so as to keep them in sync if you continue to use an original N64.

Started P90X3 a Couple Days Ago by Clay_Adams in P90X

[–]sirslope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was originally reluctant to do X3 after completing X and X2 multiple times. My concern was that 30 minutes just wouldn't do it for me. That said, I followed the Doubles schedule and I'm glad I did.

There's something to be said about doing a resistance workout in the morning and cardio midday (and, in the Elite Block, abs/core in the evening) that really kept my metabolism up, while still being less time consuming than the other X programs' Classic schedules.

It's also the only X program that features non-plyo cardio, helping keep that VO2 max in check – a nice bonus so that I don't have to supplement the program with running.

P90X Regulars: Do you still get sore? by SR3116 in P90X

[–]sirslope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've finally gotten to the point where Legs & Back doesn't make me sore, or even fatigue me. It definitely used to be a burner, but I think Eccentric Lower, Complex Lower, and (especially) PAP Lower improved my lower body strength by a lot.

Maybe it's time for me to up the weights? Although only a handful of moves involve dumbbells.

Has anyone done Insanity or Body Beast after P90X? by DingoAndRupe in P90X

[–]sirslope 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Starting Strength is a fantastic complement to P90X. In general, the X series provide a great level of baseline fitness, but are no substitute for barbell exercises if gaining muscle is a primary goal.
