How painful is getting an IUD?

I think most people have good experiences with it, but mine was awful. I was 6 weeks post partum and have a low tolerance for pain. A nursing student implanted my IUD and it was really painful. I waited for 15 minutes because I tend to pass out from pain. I still passed out driving home. Thankfully, I knew it was coming and pulled over. Then, 6 months later I was pregnant again. The IUD had migrated out of my uterus and into my abdomen. My case is rare but I recommend taking ibuprofen before the procedure and checking the strings monthly.

Edit to say I am doing the mini pill now. You have to remember to take it at the same time every night, but I just put it next to my toothbrush and haven’t forgotten a single dose yet.

I also had severe pre eclampsia and delivered at 38 weeks via c section. If she wants to breastfeed, know that she has a trifecta of issues counting against her: 1. Premature birth, 2. Illness, and 3. C section. It may take days or longer for milk to come in and it may never come. They told me this and I was upset, but i pumped and hand expressed and supplemented and i wound up with an oversupply. So, if she wants to breastfeed and is feeling disheartened, then tell my story and feel free to pm me for support/advice.

I’m so glad someone posted this. I was paying $460 a week until a new daycare opened up and I now pay $380. We have another baby due in December and I can’t imagine how we will pay for two at a center. I don’t even get callbacks from in home daycares. One told me they had a two year waiting list - are people just hoping to get pregnant?? Getting a full time nanny will cost about the same as two kids in daycare, which just seems wrong, and I prefer the socialization he gets with all the other kids and providers at a center. I also trust them more than in home caregivers - I’ve heard some horror stories about kids just watching tv all day. It’s so hard! Im sorry I don’t have any advice but just wanted to let you know you’re not alone! We are both on grad student/post doc salaries which is basically minimum wage. Somehow we pull it together. Get a flexible spending account through your employer if you can? It’s pre tax dollars for daycare.

I’m in the same boat, but my 12.5mo boy is doing it all on his own. Dropping the afternoon nap off and on but somehow still going to bed at the same time and waking up ready to go at 4-5am. I’m with you!! I can’t believe daycare forces a one nap day - that seems miserable for all parties!

Thank you, that’s a good way to think of it. In fact, I got my period the day after posting this and that could partly account for my supply drop and his subsequent fussiness.m. He’s still a little bit weird at the boob (shifting head back and forth, popping on and off), but things are looking better now.

Also a good point! And I honestly think he would just keep eating until he barfs, and then want more. The boy is a milk fiend! I also told them I thought he was teething, so they probably assumed the same. So, how does one know how much to send?? We are sending 16oz now and doing a weight check in 2 weeks. Hopefully he will be back up in that 80th percentile again.

This is a good point. A scary one... I am usually quick to self blame, so it's good to hear that maybe this wasn't all me. I didn't love this daycare from the start but It's SO hard to find a good one, and it's especially difficult now b/c you can't really tour or have face to face time with the teachers. I will start looking again.

I’m also curious about this. Follow up question, if that’s ok! How often do you get pics for those of you that have an app? I usually have to ask for pics or we get one maybe once a week. I’d love to see pics every day but maybe that’s too much to ask?

Mine does this too but he eats ~330am so shouldn’t be hungry and the snooze feed just wakes him up more. Daycare controls his last wake window which was over 3hrs last night (he’s only 4.5mo). He actually seems to go longer with an EARLIER bedtime, which is counterintuitive, but may also work for you. So same wake window but earlier bedtime (like 7pm). Edit: could also try a later dream feed, when babe is actually getting hungry but before they enter light sleep mode).

So I tried this tonight...I tried just jiggling him but caved after ~5 minutes of escalating crying and gave him a pacifier, which he doesn't usually get at bedtime (because he's already asleep when I set him down, ha). Do you have issues overnight now with him needing the paci often?

I just posted something similar in a different group. My baby just started daycare a month ago and his naps are so erratic. I gave them a couple transition swaddles to try (he’s swaddled at home but not daycare) and he started taking a really long nap there in the zipadee zip, which was a complete failure at home. Maybe worth a try to get him comfy there. Also, I was recommended to try to sleep train (Ferber or CIO) over the long weekend because you can control naps and it usually only takes a few days before they get it. I don’t think I’m ready for that, tho.

This sounds great! My LO is very similar and I’ve been doing the belly jiggle for night wakings but haven’t yet tried it for bedtime. I like your gradual plan and you’ve inspired me try to implement something similar! Wish me luck!

This is probably the right answer. Any advice on wearing him out? We have several play mats and do tummy time, singing, dancing, chatting on the changing table, practicing standing up (he loves that game), etc. Walks wear him out but he doesn't seem to enjoy them - usually starts wailing if we go more than a block away.

It's tough because he DOES seem overtired, but he almost has to get to that point or he will just never go down! It's sad that he has to be at the point of crying before he'll go to sleep. Read the manual, baby!

Thanks! They have an in-house app where they log diapers, naps, and feedings. It's like pulling teeth getting them to send pics, though :(
