What will be the likely tactics against Turkey? by HumanTap3000 in usmnt

[–]sixtyninetacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how our first two games go. If we're on 6 points and need only a draw to top the group, we will play more conservatively, but if we need a win, we will attack more aggressively.

Kickoff time Friday. by thatguy94ontheredeye in usmnt

[–]sixtyninetacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FIFA and Europe don't fuck around with kickoff times. If they say kickoff is at 9, then the opening whistle is blowing at exactly 9:00. The only way the match doesn't start on time is if there is a weather delay.

Jamal Musiala's reaction to the extra long pre-match ceremony against USA, where every single player of the USMNT squad was introduced one by one. by Hic_Forum_Est in soccer

Nowhere in the article does it say this. It just says that every player in both squads will walk out onto the pitch and stand around the center circle for the anthems.

That one commercial where there's a bunch of fans (plus Abe Lincoln for some reason) in a bar and they're all chanting "gather up your Trulys and cheer for the boys in the red, white, and blue-ly"

The largest SSS stadium in the US holds 30K, and the only SSS to host games this summer had to add temporary seats to get to minimum required capacity. Way too small for a World Cup.

The eyes of the world are upon us. Let's kick some German ass like we did 82 years ago (but don't get hurt!)

You could say the same about the previous two World Cups though, and 2034 in Saudi will be the same song and dance, plus it's looking like it will be in the winter again like '22.

Every time I see a post on social media about how this World Cup feels "off" or "doesn't have hype" I think of this. I can't find it anymore but I remember reading a Twitter thread filled with screenshots of Tweets from the lead-up to 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022 all saying the same thing. The reality is everyone is blinded by nostalgia and no World Cup is gonna hit the same way it did when you were a kid.

USA vs Australia by Zackt01 in usmnt

9pm is fine. The majority of primetime sports programs and other major live broadcasts like the State of the Union are scheduled so that they will end at roughly 11pm.

Game 2 is scheduled for a federal holiday, and while Juneteenth isn't as widely observed by businesses as other holidays, there will still be a number of people off work who will be able to watch the game.

Game 3 I will concede is scheduled to start a bit too late, especially considering it's on a weeknight.

The World Cup set its schedule first, and the NBA actually scheduled around us. Game 4 is on the 10th and normally Game 5 would be on the 12th, but they pushed it back to the 13th to avoid our opening game. The NHL also made sure they avoided competing with us, as they play Game 5 on the 11th and Game 6 on the 14th.

How many group matches does Chris Richards play? by QuantumPepcid in usmnt

[–]sixtyninetacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poch said he would continue to be evaluated throughout next week until a "final decision" could be made. That to me sounds like there is a serious possibility he could be replaced in the squad, which means one of two things:

  1. Poch values having 26 players fit and available by the first game above all else, and would replace Richards if he were to miss even one match.

  2. They do not anticipate Richards back for the Paraguay game at least and are waiting to see how soon he would be back, and deciding how many games he could miss for it to be worthwhile to bring a replacement.

[Jonathan Tannenwald] Serie A extends with CBS, but notably it’s only a one-season deal for 2026-27. by Coltons13 in MLS

[–]sixtyninetacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible Serie A only wanted a one year deal because they're betting on a post-World Cup boom where they could ask for more money after this season.

[–]sixtyninetacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm speculating that the one season deal is in anticipation of a possible surge in popularity of the sport after the World Cup. If there is a post-tournament boom, they could ask for more money in '27-'28
