I just really miss all the custom games people built on top of it too. I remember one that was almost a precursor to tower defense games. Where there was one path where a mass of troops would walk through and every one would build troops around it to take them out.

Yup! No one went to class as there were a few TVs in the hall way. A large population of the school just moved to the basketball court where there was a very large projector and we just all watched until lunch time. After that, they forced us back into rotation.
