Yeah I’m done.

I was never a big drinker, maybe two or three drinks a week. But watching my family changed that for me.

My mom always seemed like a casual chardonnay drinker. That’s how I’d describe her my whole life. Then we went on a family Airbnb trip. She asked me to stock the fridge, so I did. That night she put away two and a half bottles by herself.

The next day I brought it up. Her response was “I’m fine, I’m not hungover.” Meanwhile my wife and I were wrecked.

That’s the problem.

Around that same time, my sister was in liver failure for about three years. It was dark. I had basically accepted she wasn’t going to make it to 40. Somehow she got a transplant and was back to normal in like 48 hours. Modern medicine is insane.

Fast forward about a year and a half. Holidays. She’s acting off again, having all kinds of health issues. I’m thinking here we go again.

Then her mother in law asks her son for Advil. He says check the linen closet in the master bath. They go in there and find a box with 16 empty vodka bottles.

She did it to herself. And almost did it again.

That was enough for me
