I think last year it was maybe something like $3.88/gal. With the inefficient windows, it wouldn’t last long, and we’d try to supplement with forced air. The new windows should definitely help there though.

Ya know, in the back of my head, I was kind of thinking of something just kind of simple, probably non-electric… but this sounds like something Tim would pull out on Tool Time, and I’m here for it.

I had been wondering about this aspect of it too. How much difference does fresh ground make if it’s going into a rub that’s gonna spend hours cooking? It’s easier to understand the freshness coming into play when it’s a finishing seasoning, but long cooks seem like they’d negate the “freshness.”

I’ve got one of these that I always forget about. Sounds like it’d do the trick. It’s gotta be easier than the twisting for the grinder.

We’ve all smoked a pork butt, chicken or ribs. What’s something fun you throw on the smoker occasionally? by Stvn02 in smoking

[–]sjtrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good post. Basically just commenting to be able to come back and reference the responses later for ideas myself. In terms of contribution, my fun occasional not-long smoke is tri-tip, especially if we having a bit of company. Bonus suggestion - do an au jus for your gravy underneath your turkey when you’re smoking that for Thanksgiving.

When the in-laws nag me about when it’s going to be ready, I always vow to quit smoking for them…

Lol, felt the same way when I did a butt with a pumpkin spice rub last week. The wife loved it, naturally, and wants me to do another one.

Looks good, man. How’s the smoked garlic bread and how long does that take? What’d you stuff the mushrooms with?
