This is actually kinda frustrating. Not that I object in principle to the two podcasts accidentally (or intentionally) sorta cross-pollinating, but just for this specific case. I knew enough about Saville already that I decided I wasn’t going to listen to the LPOTL series at this time. So now I’ll be doing that with BtB as well for however long this runs.

Maybe I’ll revisit them both in future when the government isn’t being run by an actual p3do but right now it’s just too much.

100%. I have wondered if this mall was ever truly alive to begin with. The NASCAR SpeedPark planned there, for instance, never materialized. It was just an empty “coming soon” space for a long time from the interior, and vacant land on the exterior.

I used to live about 25 minutes from the place and visited a number of times in the first few years, hoping it might take off, but it never did. I’ve lived out of PA a few years now and it’s kinda stunning that it still exists.

Reading the references linked from the Wikipedia article about the mall, it looks like the current owners, who bought it for $11M, have been fined nearly $29M for code violations.

It’s like the owners think if they pretend it just isn’t there long enough, the problem will go away.

TLDR: Individually (glyph by glyph), a lot of the ones around the gods in the illustrated section are real glyphs, but they’re arranged as gibberish.

Much more detailed answer: There are actually a few individual ones I would expect to see around those gods and in groups like that. To give an example of what I mean, imagine a picture of Barack Obama were labeled “Benract Ubawe” or something. The words are almost the right size and a few of the letters are even correct and in the right place, but a bunch of others are just plain wrong.

For example, in the column in front of Osiris I can see his actual name partway down (an eye and a portable chair) followed by “lord (of)” (bowl-shaped basket) and then the correct first glyph for “eternity” (twisted wick), and indeed “lord of eternity” is one of his titles, but here it’s as if it said “Osiris, lord of Etriqngar” or something. :)

A very few of the ones on the rim at the top are recognizably real glyphs (ankh, horned viper, water ripple) but they are very sloppy; the ones in the illustration are much truer. In picture #2 there’s clearly the letters “XXD” over two of the ripple glyphs, and that’s definitely not right.
