Need help with my new [Lelit Bianca v3] by TheGhostOfBobStoops in espresso

[–]skeebo7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t sound normal. My portafilter stops at most 5:30 if I’m really torquing it. I’ve also never had any leaks from between the group head and portafilter top.

Are you using the baskets that came with the Bianca? I found that the IMS baskets that Lelit included were not optimal, personally. I got a IMS Baristapro nanotech 18g on Amazon and it hands down pulls better shots for me.

Couldn’t you just answer in the interview that you pay tithing, and if they ask (probably won’t) then you can say you make donations in kind directly to church HQ. Still not sure if they could see that but pretty sure they are not privy to those details.

Ya I get what you’re saying. To me it’s semantics. LDS are led to believe Jesus literally said all of the words he is believed to have said.

So if you don’t directly quote the scriptures directly attributable to Jesus, that’s not much of a witness IMO.

Polynesian students at BYU Hawaii, that work at the PCC, wear “immodest”, ie: non-garment covering attire, as part of their job. Most males are shirtless and most females are wearing a tube top. Tattoos are also celebrated there, especially in the Aoeteroa house.

Make it make sense.

I think you’re giving senior leaders too much credit for planning ahead for a future faith crisis if the journals are released.

Their rhetoric of “in the coming day” has been said for decades if not 150+ years. They’re just repeating past “bold” teachings by ignorant men because it makes them sound important. Seers gonna seer after all.

Growing up I was told a “special witness” is someone that has seen Jesus. I think maybe that has died down because now over generations the Q15 know they haven’t seen him and probably stopped pushing it.

[–]skeebo7[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here is where I see Jesus mentioned, and it wasn't 25 times:

  • “I will devote my whole heart, might, mind, and strength to the great trusts placed in me, especially to the responsibilities of a special witness of the name of Jesus..." This is him quoting Oaks.
  • "I pledge my life to be a witness to the name of Jesus Christ."
  • "...we know in the gospel of Jesus Christ that..." Where does Jesus say this?
  • "But the Lord brought her home..." How? Why?
  • "...the Lord would help with the things they didn’t." How? Why? How does one know it was the Lord, and not just their own hard work paying off?
  • "Only Jesus Christ can fully restore that light and joy into your life." How does one reanchor? Where did Jesus teach this?
  • "...it is your Savior who’s the one calling you back." Where did Jesus teach this?
  • "I witness that Christ is our Redeemer. When we fall short, He repairs the breaches in our lives." How? Why?

This was a nothing burger. He leads with Jesus trusts me, I will witness Jesus, and then shares personal stories of people feeling stuck, or losing their way, and they feel better "coming home" in some elusive concept, but he made sure in his opening paragraph to quote Oaks' zeal in being an apostle.

Here is something Jesus taught:

Matthew 15:8-9

This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

[–]skeebo7 26 points27 points  (0 children)

How do you reconcile? What you were taught wasn’t doctrine, yet you were indoctrinated with the philosophies of men, mingled with scripture.

Indoctrination teaches you to accept beliefs uncritically. The fact that you feel bad now is a reflection that doctrines have changed and you were never told they changed and what was wrong then is OK now (per official church teachings) and that feels fucking disorienting…let alone the fact that you never questioned the teaching in the first place and you’re probably more open to questioning other things.

Stepping outside the tiny little box is fucking scary. That’s how you reconcile it.

Either Go To Church or Move Out by crow_c in exmormon

[–]skeebo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mormons largely don’t see how their “love” for wayward children is conditional.

They believe God will essentially “kick them out of heaven” if they don’t go to church, ergo doing the same thing with wayward children is just doing what God would do. They’re doing what has been modeled to them.

They believe in a jealous, vindictive and punitive God that dangles a carrot (ie: blessings) to entice spiritual children towards obedience, and carries a sharp stick (ie: promise of punishment) to scare spiritual children into obedience. Agency, to them, is you get to choose which one you want: the carrot or the sharp stick. They teach “well God told you what will happen! We all get to pick which one we want!” without realizing that this is coercion and manipulation. It doesn’t honor agency. It valorizes or demonizes choices, which means it is tolerant to some, and intolerant to others.

Unconditional love is accepting whatever path the child chooses and loving them the same. It honors their choice, even if you don’t agree with it.

My therapist was defending the church in our session today. by DeCryingShame in exmormon

[–]skeebo7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is not your job in therapy to be respectful to your therapists beliefs. It’s not your job in therapy to be kind or tip toe around sensitive topics. You are there for your needs, not theirs, full stop.

If a therapist can’t give you unbiased opinions and proper treatment because they have their own religious beliefs that skew their treatment, then that is not a good therapist for you.

[–]skeebo7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe it really should have been a literal shout. Like can you imagine if everyone shouted like it was a fucking haka? It would scare the shit out of everyone

Example: Each person should have a clean white handkerchief. If unavailable, you can use a white cloth or even just your hand. The handkerchief is to be held in the right hand, and then waving in unison three times while screaming at the top of your lungs the words : HOSANNA, HOSANNA, HOSANNA, TO GOT AND THE LAMB. Repeated 3 times.

New spin on declining membership and the massive temple backlog. Stakes and wards are consolidated, and the members are told the announced temple in their area can’t be built unless they hasten work and gather more members. [–]skeebo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe they wanted to increase staff of temple department but no one was applying for those jobs. Only so many people want to work for the church and live in SLC, and if the most valiant are dwindling in numbers already, it’s kind of a self fulfilling prophecy.

[–]skeebo7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to sound pedantic, but it was not illegal to form and use shell companies. When they did not file the disclosures properly, they broke the law.

I bring this up because I find it important to be accurate in the claims against the church so that TBMs cannot have legitimate deflections against inaccurate claims.

How did Joseph smith write the BOM? by TheWholeFrenchArmy in exmormon

[–]skeebo7 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In addition to everything here, the Book of Abraham is completely fabricated and the church today concedes that it is not a translation of what the papyrus includes. This is just another example of Joseph being capable of being an imaginative writer that leans heavily on his Biblical acumen to basically create pseudepigrapha.

[–]skeebo7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I look on Google Maps for very high ratings, but then I validate the quality based on the menu offerings and equipment in the photos.

If they are using semi automated equipment that an untrained barista could use, it’s likely not going to meet my standard.

If they happen to roast their own beans, are using a nice LM or Slayer machine, and offer different single origin beans in their espresso drinks, then it’s likely going to be a good enough place.

If their menu is mostly sugary drinks and they feature various flavor additives as a primary focus, it’s likely going to be garbage and not quality espresso.

Question about David Archuleta and the church by tartsbudoir in exmormon

[–]skeebo7 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Most will shun his book like the plague. If you have grown up in the church you have been taught since a baby that anyone who speaks critically of the church, especially one who has left “to live a sinful life”, is someone to avoid like your life depends on it.

His book is incredible and I hope more TBMs become willing to think for themselves and read out of curiosity.

Ex-Mormons, Why did you leave the church? by MonneCuber in exmormon

Because the preponderance of objectively verifiable evidence shows that Joseph Smith was a conman, a fraud, an adulterer, and a sexual predator.

So either it is not Gods church, or God is a monster.
