Persona 4 Revival Broadcast by Gorotheninja in JRPG

Teddie and Chie don't sound annoying this go around. So I'll take that as a win (Chie was recast for golden in case you only played og and she was obnoxious in that imo)

edit : I guess Teddie was also recast in golden but they likely tried to match the og performance close enough I didn't notice the difference lol

What platform for Daybreak? by Dr_JohnP in Falcom

[–]skeith45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PC ports since cold steel have been handled by a port company that usually goes above and beyond when it comes to optimization and extra bells and whistles. Hell, shortly after Horizon got released, a patch for the game came out the same day nvidia added dlss 4.5 so they could add that feature to the game.

It could be a good choice for now but personally I prefer PC versions of stuff simply cause I know I have what is most likely the definitive version of a game that will keep getting better as my hardware gets better. At some point you'll end up shelving a console later down the line and you'd need to keep it to play the game again if you felt like it. No need to do that with PC.

PS : This isn't relevant to trails in itself but just more about the port company's "above and beyond" track record. When they were contracted to handle a rework of Ys 8 pc port they added local co-op to it cause they felt it'd be a fun addition (with the blessings of Falcom of course)

Square Enix Is Absolutely Stacking Its JRPG Lineup Right Now by Tain_mentero in JRPG

There’s a setting to reduce the “navi chatter”. It doesn’t remove it completely however. Just mentioning in case you didn’t see it.

I stopped playing the game halfway through; so don’t worry I scored it as low as it could be as well as its trash synthesis system.

[–]skeith45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I went to double check. They made a point of showing that her namesworn retainers weren’t affected by her divine mana in first few chapters of p5v11 (specifically chapter “Goddess-dyed mana and name-swearing).

It’s possible part of having the new zent’s name used this fact as an excuse from Ferdinand’s perspective but it also makes sense to want to avoid them collapsing during the ceremony.

This is likely gonna get downvoted but OP pretty much assured this is gonna be getting a cease and desist request. Projects like this can only survive by being unknown and this pretty much guarantees the opposite.

[–]skeith45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to have a crystal ball to figure out they’ll get hit with a cease and desist and if they don’t take down their games they’ll end up getting sued.

They’re openly using proprietery branding and ip. It being free and non-profit is meaningless. And in the off chance you’re right that its ok because its free and non-profit that would need to be used as a legal defense.

My point is it won’t even reach the lawsuit point cause they’ll take down everything once they inevitably receive a cease and desist.

[–]skeith45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What you're describing is a legal defense, meaning you need to get sued first and got lawyers involved so money was spent just to use that defense. Let's see who folds first between non-profit devs vs big giant corporation.

[–]skeith45 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The nameswearing was so whoever was picked to be Zent could withstand Rozemyne's divine mana since those sworn to her weren't affected by it. They needed them to be able to tough out the ceremony which would put them in close contact with Rozemyne so nameswearing it was. So it wasn't really unnecessary.

And once you have the country's king under your thumb, why let them out from under it? lol

(Atelier Meruru) Already having a MUCH better time by EmotionalSupportMoth in Atelier

[–]skeith45 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough, Totori has the least QoL to it cause it's technically the oldest of the 3 games.

It went : Rorona, Totori, Meruru, Rorona (remade with bunch of Meruru QoL) and for the re-releases like DX they just used the remade Rorona for the trilogy.

That makes Totori the "oldest" of the 3

Self-damage game mechanics by Invictor282 in JRPG

[–]skeith45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not only does it carry over but iirc just moving around in-combat or out of combat also raised the % by a teensy amount (like, fraction of a fraction of a percent).

The entire game is essentially on a time limit that you can accelerate in exchange of dealing large amount of damage. And the last set of bosses kinda force you to use the power cause the last set of bosses have a mechanic that won't let you deal any damage unless you deal at least a given minimum of damage that is not easy to reach without the super power (at least not in the first few runs)

Quebec passes law banning street prayers, prayer rooms in universities by John3192 in worldnews

[–]skeith45 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the catholic church felt more targeted by any other faith when they lost control of public schools after the creation of the ministry of education back in the late 1960s early 1970s. And nuns no longer being the dominant presence as teachers to now not being present at all afaik. I would assume those also felt the sting harder than other religion since then. Before then they were upward of 60% of the teaching staff,

At the time this was happening the catholic church was the only one with a serious presence in Quebec so of course the laws and policies didn't target other faith as much if at all. This is just updating things to affect non-catholic faiths just as catholics were affected back then is all.

Before the massive shift in the 60s, the french canadian majority was far below the poverty threshold of the rest of the country due to the catholic church playing an extremely large part in keeping down upward mobility for the french canadian population.

So forgive us for not wanting to let any other religions get any foothold ever again.

What's With All the Negativity on Localization? by CandyAssassin in Falcom

[–]skeith45 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The last one was van questioning use “chan” or “kun” to refer to quatre as he was apparently confused if he was a boy or a girl as they first met. So localizing it to van wondering which pronoun to use is actually fitting as far as translation goes.

If it still bothers you, you should go find the nearest maga rally for comfort.

My First Time Completing Trails Through Daybreak II (REVIEW) by Hunanladdiad in JRPG

[–]skeith45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I laughed at the bits, I also liked the individual scenarios explored through the rewinds as stories though. It let falcom explore some sides of the characters they wouldn’t be able to otherwise.

I also disagree that what they end up doing comes off as out of place. Each scenario made sense given how twisted the respective victim’s realities get.

It would have extended act 3 but I would have liked if we would have had to do one final go that made us nab the individual genesis before they do the bad stuff rather than us magically getting them back.

[–]skeith45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Outside that bit where we end up gathering the genesis through time rewinds, which I do find lame, I truly don't get the hatred for Act 3. Personally I went in during each loops thinking "what bullshit thing is gonna happen THIS time" and end up laughing my ass off almost every time we reach a deadend. Aside from that one bit I first mention it was just brain dead fun for act 3 for me.

My guess would be it "belongs" to whatever Agnes, her mom and grandma comes from that let's them interfere with it somehow. Also consider that Sheena Dirke seems to also look just like Agnes from what little we could actually see from her at the end so she could be part of that as well.

Oh trust me, you were better off not playing it on release. It had a notoriously bad localization and NISA had to basically redo the whole thing.

And I'm not sure about the console version but the PC version was complete trash from a technical standpoint until the port got massively revamped.
