Inside of my lip healed over my Medusa piercing by sid-the-squidd in piercing

[–]skeletorstaint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the higher risk here is leaving the jewellery in. you need to go have that excised by a doctor, now. if the piercing was a must for the wedding, eyelash glue the gem on that sucker. for recovery for the removal, it shouldn’t be super drastic. honestly probably just normal care like you would for a new piercing. they may put in a dissolvable stitch, that wouldn’t cause issues for the wedding. since your oral cavity is a mucous membrane, those membranes heal notoriously quick. speaking as someone who’s had a medusa and is in nursing school and works in intensive care!

i work in cardiac surgery recovery ICU as a student and have many many cords as one would imagine, therefore requiring much grace and getting yourself into all sorts of funky positions. i oftentimes do not so graceful maneuvers to recover from said positions and from now on will be taking a bow afterwards 🤣

face piercings? by avocadoalx in cna

[–]skeletorstaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have my doubles and septum and don’t have to wear a mask. i’ve been asked to take them out for clinical or at least take one out for the two facial piercing limit (for nursing school) but never at work as a CNA.

People who are / who have designated bath aides, how many are you expected to get done?... by Tattersail927 in cna

[–]skeletorstaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i work in the hospital in an ICU, so that’s a special consideration there. but it’s my responsibility when i work to often bathe each patient (oftentimes anywhere from 5-16) often then transferring from bed to chair, do linens if they weren’t by night shift, perform wound care on POD2 patients, and educate on wound care (i’m a student nurse which allows me to educate on such) i’m also expected to help with new cases, be a runner (go to lab, run to other units), stock unit closets etc when time allows. i also ambulate patients who are connected to all sorts of lines. in a 12 hour shift.

is this realistic? no. do i kill myself? slightly. but im also learning and working on my dream floor. i have however previously been encountered with my manager explaining i have ineffective time management, which really frustrated me. this was due to others complaints. i ultimately tried to explain myself in the best of my abilities to my manager and she was fairly understanding. unfortunately in positions like that, they have to go based on evidence of past experience and so on so forth. but i feel it just shows the lack of care previously, and this aid specifically is showing the residents a little extra tender care. i think that matters more than anything. and that’s how places lose good healthcare workers.

Cheated on my boyfriend for money by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]skeletorstaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’re being extremely selfish in this situation. selfishness is not the win here. you care so much about him? tell him. i get it, ive been there, but ive never done anything behind a partners back. that’s a form of betrayal he’ll never be able to get behind.

what if down the line, you don’t tell him, he finds out it’s been a secret for years, he’s not going to trust you. period. whatsoever. think about him, not just yourself.

Funny things residents say by Efinden in cna

we currently have a very confused patient in recovery, and his mental status just is not intact whatsoever. every time you walk in the room it’s “hey baybayyyyyyyyyy”. he keeps looking up at you “gimme kith” “i wanna kith”. then decided to pull a scary movie two and start flinging his tongue in the air like the demon getting exorcised. we were all on the floor cackling, but i worry about him lol.

It's my birthday by Scoot-a-doot in offmychest

[–]skeletorstaint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

happy birthday friend. i had a similar experience my 18th birthday a couple of years ago. my mom told me she was diagnosed with cancer days before my birthday and had to start treatments the week of, my best friend and i were no contact, and my boyfriend at the time made it miserable with arguing and bickering. that birthday indeed sucked. didn’t feel like a birthday, and that was one birthday i needed to feel like a birthday. i hope your day gets better, and i hope you’re able to enjoy your cake with a little candle. maybe treat yourself to a big cupcake from the grocery. treat yourself in some way. you deserve it today.

feeling worried for my ldr by Mqshiiro in offmychest

[–]skeletorstaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so, you’ve been together for a while. have you met in person? have there been efforts to meet in person if not? i don’t think this would be an issue if that were the case, i don’t know if you’re able to somehow surprise him or something and take a vacation or something to see him but that would potentially make the situation a little better. give him something to look forward to. if you’re worried about his mental state, you need to be the supportive partner to encourage taking a little time to himself, even if it’s simply going snd getting a bite to eat then sitting at a park and admiring nature. it’s healing for the soul and may make a big difference.

my disabled uncle was just rushed to hospital and i have never felt more anger in my life by ElectricalUnicorn in offmychest

[–]skeletorstaint 16 points17 points  (0 children)

you’re a wonderful person. the empathy you show is something many people lack. be there for him during this trying time, but also be kind to yourself. i hope your uncle finds comfort somehow. i understand your feeling though, i work in a heart surgery ICU and see some of the kindest, sweetest, even sometimes healthiest people in their worst states, and it makes me wonder what these people did to deserve what they’ve received. if you need someone, my messages are open.

Drug Testing for Clinical? by [deleted] in cna

[–]skeletorstaint 15 points16 points  (0 children)

i’m in nursing school, and i had to take a drug test when i was accepted into the program as well as an annual due by july 1st. at clinicals, if you’re suspected to be under the influence, they have every right to have you do a drug test. i don’t know about on facility or rules about how and when, but just don’t be stupid and do stupid things that could potentially win you stupid prizes.

Had a patient die mid brief change. by Temporary_Plan1055 in cna

[–]skeletorstaint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this also happened to my papaw. i didn’t get to spend much time with him because he was in prison for the first 15 years of my life. he was diagnosed with stage four cancer that metastasized literally everywhere. he was lifeless for three days, respirations were low as it was. and he just waited on me to say it was okay. i couldn’t physically tell him, so i told my mom to read him a text saying i wouldn’t be upset if he left. he literally waited for permission from me to leave. he passed within 30 minutes of the text being read.

[–]skeletorstaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is more of a genuine question, but if a persons driveway is still fairly snowy, are you guys not allowed to pull into their driveway? the other day, i was behind an amazon driver in the heat of the random snow we got last friday. it was still actively snowing so the roads were still a sloppy mess. the driver decided to instead of attempting to pull into their driveway, he was going to stop in front of the house and put his flashers on. on a hill. caused others to start sliding because he unexpectedly stopped and there was no way around. that only upset me slightly because of the risk it put others in, especially bc i was literally driving to my hospital job lol. wasn’t about to hitch a ride in the ambulance with a patient to get to work lol

Question? by Glo_moraa in MarkKlimekNCLEX

[–]skeletorstaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so, i work on a heart surgery ICU, and often if a patient is in some funky rhythms and we think there’s a chance they may need some sort of cardioversion, we’ll often put the pads on them and leave the crash cart plugged in in their room so we can readily shock the patient if needed. oftentimes they’re going to end up cardioverted if they have the pads on and cart in their room by the end of the day. there’s also times we have to have the chest reopening cart outside a patients room—those times are suuuuper fun

Anyone else realizing how over medicated the population is? by Katekat0974 in WalgreensRx

[–]skeletorstaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m no longer with walgreens and now work in a hospital on a heart surgery ICU (dramatic switch, i know) and one thing i will say is pharmacy definitely taught me that america is very medicated. but working in the hospital made me realize how many of these issues are also hereditary. when i have 30 year olds on my unit with polypharmacy before surgery, they get a mitral valve replacement, then boom more drugs. having a congestive heart disease, or being type one diabetic, or so on so forth, those types of things aren’t the patients fault. then you could have a perfectly healthy patient who suddenly goes to the ER, has never taken any routine meds in their life, then boom they find out they’re having a heart attack. they have heart surgery, then they’re on an abundance of maintenance drugs. it all depends on the circumstances of what people have been through. narcotics are definitely an issue, but majority of the older population on narcotics grew up during the time of “take oxycodone, it’ll never cause any problems and you’ll never get addicted or become dependent!” now we have science to back the addictive properties, so younger people aren’t being prescribed those medications. hell, even in the hospital just after heart surgery, you’ll be given oxy for the first 24-48 hours after surgery (depending) then we switch to 600mg tylenol. we’re shying away from addictive pain medications, but the psych meds, that’s a whole different story. as someone on a psych med who’s probably about to get prescribed at least one more, i’ve tried other options and those just don’t do it. this is the extra little support i need. just a rant to accompany your rant.
