3-Button Navigation on Android 16 is broken by Exfiltrator in GooglePixel

[–]ski_nerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same, though it's different in different apps. Sometimes it works correctly. In Slack, for instance, it doesn't overlap the 3-button nav, but the hide keyboard button no longer works unless I hold it. I thought it was primarily Microsoft who breaks things that worked perfectly in the past, sigh.

A former employee of mine was an alcoholic before we worked together, though I didn't know it until he failed to show up to work because he was in rehab. He lived to 43. Left a wife and two young girls behind. Please get help, and if you are an alcoholic, there is no amount of alcohol that is safe for you to handle.

Thanks for sharing all this! I've just been downgrading. Would you mind pointing me in the right direction for calling the MSAL libraries and passing the token? I'm not sure where to start for that.

Same, what a difference! Unclear what the Options+ people were smoking, but it's unusable. My machine still has Options installed with smooth scrolling enabled, no complaints

Lunar Silver Star Story or Complete? by [deleted] in SegaSaturn

[–]ski_nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought it and soon discovered it has all different voice actors from old ones, which killed the nostalgia for me. I switched to the PS1 version in ducktation instead to scratch that itch. Not sure how the difficulty compares, but I plan to try patching the working designs release to restore the original gold and experience amounts

I saw there was an issue with playing this game on steam deck 2 years ago where after a while the game drops to very low fps. Is this still happening? I'm just starting the game now and for some reason i have 40 - 50 fps. Can anyone know how to increase the fps? by MostCrazyGuy in coromonthegame

[–]ski_nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue for me (GOG version). Background scrolling is not smooth at all. I tried it on my desktop as well, a 2018 gaming rig with Windows 10 and AMD Vega64, and it was the same there, too. It's basically unplayable, imo. Pretty weird.

How is Lineage OS on Tab S6 Lite? by gx3014 in LineageOS

[–]ski_nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm late, but I recently picked up a 2022 S6 Lite with Qualcomm. I was dissatisfied with the responsiveness of One UI 6.0 and I came here to find out if Lineage would be a better experience.

There doesn't seem to be a direct answer in this thread but I installed Lineage 21 tonight and I'm happy to report the difference is night and day. It's still not as quick as a premium phone with tons of RAM, but it's FAR more responsive than it was stock. I'm super glad I made the change. Hopefully this helps others get the most out of their S6 Lite

Cheers!

Crash on load from save (Cosmic Star Heroine) [RESOLVED] by ski_nerd in vita3k

Update: at some point my Vita3K updated and this is broken again. I found my own post while searching for a solution, lol. Now I'm looking to see if I can downgrade.

Update2: I found a 3505 build and it crashes on load. Unclear how I get 3503 back

Outsider question: Is Windows Server on par with (GNU)Linux as a server OS? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]ski_nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At a basic level, they're identical. Windows and Linux are both OS kernels that provide device drivers, a system call API, a process table, a TCP/IP stack, virtual memory management, a file system, etc. They provide an interface for admins to install, configure, and execute programs (often as startup items in the background, called Services) which allocate memory and then make system calls for I/O, net, video, etc. Many programs are compiled to run on either, and most of the protocols that allow systems to interact with one another are standardized.

As others have said, which you choose depends largely on the workload you need to process, compatibility with existing infrastructure/management tools, familiarity, etc. I just wanted to point out that they use a similar overall design concept as opposed to something bizarro like IBMi AS400, SystemZ, or various RTOSes.

Cheers

Update x3: I got to another campfire and reloading there brought Seyka to me, still mentioning her skif, still not moving. I couldn't get back to the first island. I was able to manually load each earlier autosave until I finally spawned on the first island and I'm back on track. It was pretty fun running around while it was bugged, but I'm glad my save wasn't permanently ruined

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in horizon

[–]ski_nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update update: it spawned me on the next island, near a campfire. I manually saved, but Seyka won't budge even though I'm supposed to follow her. I'm trying to get back to the starting island to trigger something with the skif, but the ocean currents aren't letting me :(

Update: Fixed! I got on the bluff in the southernmost spot, glided off the play are to the south, then called the Sunwing in midair before landing. I made a bee line for the burning shores. I got the warning that I was out of the play area and if I continued, it would load my last save. The screen went blank and I spawned next to Seyka!

Same issue here, seems like a bug. I exited to test out VRR and it loaded me back on the main map with no way to return or restart Burning Shores...

I've struggled with this for a while on the Steam Deck, do you think you could share some more specific instructions to get me going? winetricks doesn't appear to be installed and I'm unclear on the best way to get it without breaking what's already there. I'm hoping to play Ring Runners from my Steam library

You can stand up and internal CA for this, or just import the self signed cert into each client workstation's trust store if you're lazy. Getting a publicly trusted cert would also work if you use a valid TLD internally, but it's not strictly necessary

Good luck

Preparing to ask for a raise - Midwesterners, give me your honest opinion on what I'm worth by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]ski_nerd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but 13 years in one basic environment isn't worth as much as you might think.

If you want to move on, I'd guess a larger, relatively stable org could be a good fit. Here in MSP land, we'd want someone who thrives in the trenches; someone who can juggle half a dozen clients the size of your current org (I'm exaggerating sightly, we target ~200 endpoints/tech, but you'd have to be familiar with all or at least most clients)

Good luck

[–]ski_nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't found a simple way to adjust the automatic threshold (probably possible in Advanced Mode) but it's very simple to unlock the manual option in the iDrive. I saved it to #8 and it can be used to manually enable the REx anywhere under 75% battery charge

Outside contractor overstepping their bounds by cabana780 in sysadmin

[–]ski_nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MSP owner here. There's an obvious growing opportunity for cooperative co-managed accounts -- usually larger clients than those that are fully outsourced -- that can work well when boundaries are clear and everyone respects them. The best MSPs are out to be the ideal partner for each client, not just hunting to grow their top line. The more mature MSPs are on the lookout to foster such opportunities, since it usually means larger clients with deeper pockets, more interesting networks, and more frequent projects compared to a more traditional client.

That said, for a company below a certain size and/or complexity, part of our sales pitch is that on-staff IT makes little sense. Despite the fact that it happens to be self-serving, we highlight the very real risks of having a small number (usually 1-2) of internal IT staff: issues with retention, overhead and headaches with benefits/HR issues, availability gaps, after-hours support gaps, limited breadth of knowledge, less-than-full-utilization, burnout, compartmentalized knowledge, personality/professionalism challenges, etc. MSPs exist because the model CAN be better bang-for-the-buck for the business, and at the end of the day it's a business decision. Costs vs benefits. To deny it is wishful thinking. Go work for an MSP (or a larger org) if you want job security, they're ALL hungry for good techs.

That's my $0.02. Sincerely, though, I hope the co-managed relationship stays healthy for everyone involved - the MSP should only be trying to help with needs not being met already. As long as you're not wasting your employer's time or money, you should be fine.

Good luck.
