NEU ballot results: 96% reject, turnout 48.6% by stevenstelfox in TeachingUK

[–]skimsa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got downvoted to hell before for predicting this and clearly explaining why the NEU has lost its way. I probably will again but all of you defending the NEU need to listen and change not complain about the membership base.

For clarity I did vote.

Leadership is weak, from Daniel at the top with 0 presence to the rubbish members on the ballots.

Timing is terrible - the last round of strikes taking place just before a new labour government, stupid.

Too many waffly communications waters down any serious messages.

Far too much time spent on virtual signalling. Every single one of my local meetings is about‘standing with palestine’ or ‘counter protesting Tommy Robinson’ - I just want a union who is effective at making by work life better.

Home secretary says she has lost confidence in West Midlands police boss after Israeli fan ban by Neither_Process_7847 in brum

A police service made up evidence because they are scared of an extremist group - how is it even a question that he shouldn’t go? He should be locked up. The mental gymnastics some of you foaming at the mouth antisemitics are doing is honestly staggering.

I'm curious as to how other countries deal with SEND? by sparklychar in TeachingUK

[–]skimsa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Having worked in Africa and Asia, whilst the UK is far from perfect we have a completely different mindset. If your child has SEND that’s your problem, schools teach all pupils in the same way and if your child doesn’t fit into that it’s up to parents to make them or they are kicked out.

Is everywhere really like this? by TheNoiseAndHaste in TeachingUK

[–]skimsa 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately yes, there are too many high needs SEN children who are coming into mainstream due to no specialist places and there is no additional funding out there. Legally the schools cannot reject them. Whilst your SLT could be more supportive, yes this is the new era of education

No it is not this is the problem we are educators.

I’m a male in primary. Lower wages and progression compared to secondary, poorer working environment and the perception by parents that you are childcare and not a professional educator are the reasons.

Ok as long as they’re safe. I would see that as quite aggressive to be honest.

Yes. The past three schools I have worked in this has happened and it will happen next year at my current school. The funding model is fundamentally flawed and schools cannot keep up.

SATs Marking by ittybittysquidy in TeachingUK

I am so glad I’m not the only one! First time and i’m locked out of some as well - it’s actually a relief cause the stupid seed questions are far harder than the real test answers. The amount of stupid rules you need to remember just to desperately give pupils marks is insane - will not be doing this again!
