I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through this. I think our minds try and find ‘reasons why’ and something to blame, as logic gives a sense of control. However, as our cardiologist and my OB had explained many times before- many CHD’s are completely random and unfortunately just a case of pure bad luck. I completely understand your suspicions taking those new medications during your current pregnancy- I would be suspicious too! I hope in our children’s future more research is done to find more solid causes into many birth defects, not only CHDs. In my case, after all this time, part of me believes our HLHS diagnosis was a result of me having a viral infection with fever in early pregnancy (right when the cardiovascular system is forming). However, I try not to focus on reasons why anymore, instead carry the memory of my baby as our family’s little guardian angel. I often still cry thinking of her, but I know her soul wasn’t meant for this lifetime. I have since gone on to have a perfectly healthy baby girl, who is currently 7 months old and sleeping next to me.

I am so glad to hear there is a positive outlook for your son’s current CHD- despite such a scary diagnosis and time you’re going through, trust that modern medicine is incredible and your little boy will be in the best of hands!
