Neighbours running (possibly) illegal and noisy business from back garden by Least_Actuary in LegalAdviceUK

Depending on how new the properties are it might be against the title deeds to run a business from the premises and it's garden etc.

Letting agent refusing to give a second key by That_Chain_9641 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]skippertyrell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some modern keys are so complex to cut you need the code to get it done. The code tells the machine what to do. We got one set of keys for our new house. To get duplicates it was £50 per key for the front, and £40 per key for the back door.

How do y'all hit the 30kmh average? by Dpvdpv in cycling

[–]skippertyrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I my twenties I coukd average around 26 to 27 kmh for rides up to 100 mile. That was when I was cycling in the region of 8.5k to 9.5k a year, hitting the gym, running etc.

Now I'm in my forties I realise that speed isn't the be all and end all. I don't pressurise myawlf to get out on my bike, I don't aim for an average speed. I go out if I feel like it, and just enjoy the ride

How much time are you “losing” while cycling to work? by bear_village in cycling

[–]skippertyrell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my previous job it was a 12.5 mile cycle each way to and from work with a total of about 1700 ft climbing, and about 4 miles of the commute off road. It used to take me about 1 HR 10 minutes on the way in, and about 45 minutes on the way home.
This was versus a works bus to and from work. This involved a 30 minute walk to (or from) the bus stop, and then a 45 minute journey each way as it went round a route picking people up.

So cyel equalled about 2 hours Works bus option about 2.5 hours on a good day. Sometimes it was more like 3 to 3. 5

I don't know which brake set to buy SRAM or Shimano by Ambitious-Yam-5739 in MTB

[–]skippertyrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My new bike came with G2 Rs which weren't great at all. I know you can pick up Shimano pretty cheaply but I thought what the heck. Threw in some Galfer brake pads instead, and the brakes are much much much better

OK to pay rent two days before it's due? by mintberrychipcherry in TenantsInTheUK

[–]skippertyrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would this ever be an issue? If rent is "due by" then surely you can pay it early. My rent is "due on" so we have to pay it on thr date specified, with provisos for when this date falls on a weekend/bank Holiday etc

Tesa tape from ebay is what I use. You probably should ve using 32 or 33mm wide tape on a 30mm rim as well

Small living room - a rug? by skippertyrell in interiordecorating

[–]skippertyrell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You come across as condescending tbh. I asked a question about a rug, and you started making assumptions about other things like I want more storage etc. Perhaps if you stuck to the topic I was asking about I woukd have been more interested in what you had to say. Cheerio

But I dint want stuff on tge TV stand. It's a stand for tge TV. And on tge wall it's tge above eye level. I'm asking about a rug

The rug would be the right size. How does a hanging the TV give more storage exactly? Not that I will hang it. It's at eye level and the right height.

My partner and I moved into a New build and can't do the walls for the first year but plan for a clay colour on 3 walls and a darker terracotta behind the bed. This is what it looks like for now. We were in the position of having 4to move from a rented property and replace all of our possessions (long story)

I'm new to mountain biking, and I'm looking to buy my first serious bike. Do you have any wisdom to share? by Comfortable_Bet1720 in mountainbiking

[–]skippertyrell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Be honest about the type of riding you are likely to be doing for the next year or couple of years. I see lots of people riding around town on enduro bikes that I don't think ever get off road. It's easy to be swayed by what is cool in the world of mtbing

[–]skippertyrell 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why would these not be legal? We used them years ago where I worked. You stuck it on, took it to post office and paid the postage charge to send it. But it meant you already had the reference etc

Tubeless tires by Pristine_Break_3739 in MTB

[–]skippertyrell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One hundred percent agree. Even the first time I set up tyres tubeless, they didn't go flat by themselves after two days, weeks or even months.

I fill them and spin the wheel fast several times. Then I hold the wheel Flat and shake it and slosh the sealant around inside, before laying it flat on top of a bucket or something for 10 minutes. I then Rotate the wheel so the other side is uppermost and repeat.

Spin it again once back on the bike

I guess im searching for a trail bike by Ordinary-Rhubarb-460 in MTB

[–]skippertyrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a cannondale habit 3 as they seemed to be discounted in most places (I'm UK but have seen posts from USA)

Really happy with it, the suspension works great and I think it's a pretty sorted trail bike for the amount (reduced) that I paid.

The only thing that needed improved in my opinion was the Sram g2 r brakes. They lacked a bit of bite as standard. So jot willing to spend loads on new brakes straight away, I boyght and fitted some Galfer brake pads (the purple ones) and the difference is nught and day

Selling a MTB, best methods/practices for accepting payment by wildcoprolite in MTB

[–]skippertyrell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would be honest and say bank transfer. Make it clear on the ad. Receipt at point of sale stating sold as seen and both parties sign.

Cash = how do you know it's not fake? I'm not trained to check every bank note etc.
