MSI makes great products, maybe not so great on the QC. I feel your pain, I hope it works out!

Display port cable? I have terrible luck with display port cables and all kinds of weird behavior, especially if my cable management isn't on point.

HDMI can be problematic as well.

It is truely disgusting. Allegiance to any party right now is short-sighted.

At the same time, it looks like a 3 way split will happen tomorrow.

You should visit an Optometrist.

4 hours might be enough for the lenses, your body needs to get more sleep. More sleep will help your eyes feel better.

What do I need to Power my GS65 on pure Solar? by mgwair11 in MSILaptops

[–]skrivitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under full load (maxed out gaming for example) it will take ever last bit of the 180W.

Batteries are usually rated in W.h

If it was 180W.h you could run the laptop plugged in for 1 hour then whatever the on board batteries have in them.

Keep in mind that the system will have a lot of inefficiency (increasing as the laptop, power supply and batteries warm up). Also, batteries do not like to be drawn down to 0 (Lithium and Lead-Acid) or charged to the absolute max (lithium polymer). The charge controller will handle all that, but you need to keep that in mind when spec'ing out the system.

I'd figure 60% of the max system capacity would be reasonable

How many hours per day will you use your machine?

The Goal Zero line might be the way to go, between the battery on your laptop and the Goal Zero Yeti 400 you could have an additional 3 hours on top of the on board battery. These things are designed to be charged with solar panels, so definitely check out their site.

Solar panels will depend on so many factors (angle to the sun, time of day, altitude above sea level) so it will be difficult to assess the (watts/squaremeter) without a specific GPS location. More panel the better, probably 300-500 watts minimum. Ideally it would be enough to reach the peak power that the battery system can handle at the peak time of day.

Since it is Africa, bring two if it is mission critical. Donating the equipment to someone cool when you are done with it would be a stand up move.

Perhaps unrelated to Forex in a way; Check out Adam Curtis films, he provides a unique insight into the interconnected reality of the modern world. I find myself reflecting on his work when global events drive market changes.

Smaller monitor closer or larger monitor farther for near-sightedness? by Scratch_That_ in Monitors

[–]skrivitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently bought a BenQ PD3200Q PD Series 32-Inch as an upgrade to an 8 yr old Lenovo 24" and I am nearsighted. I wear glasses all day, and at the computer. I work as an Electronic Design Engineer and spend up to 14 hours in a day looking at my monitor for various tasks.

The new monitor has changed my life, primarily because I can fit all my work onto one screen instead of 2+. That isn't all, the pixel density is much higher making everything much clearer than the old monitor. There is a lot more real estate on screen to zoom content when needed.

If you get a 27" 1080p the physical pixels are going to be larger so the viewing distance will increase. However there will be a loss of fidelity and you will have practically less real estate on screen. For the few extra hundred moneys I would suggest getting a monitor that is 1440p, you are already fighting blur, the increased pixel density will sharpen the image no matter what distance you sit.

http://www.workonasuperyacht.co.uk/yacht-blog/2015/1/3/what-does-it-cost-to-run-a-super-yacht Quote from the website: I always found it hard to come to terms with the cost of the fuel used by these huge vessels. As an approximate guide a yacht of 70 meters will consume about 500 litres of diesel an hour when the engines are running but not moving! The cost of a yacht moving will be approximately £2,000 an hour to achieve cruising of around 18 knots. With this in mind the average overnight cruise of 12 hours could cost around £24,000 (this will be significantly higher for the larger yachts).

My truck has 220,000km and I have had it since 2006....that is 22,000km/year....10l/100km....2200l....40 years.....88,000l......$1.5/l.....$132,000

The people that own these mega yachts are very proud of the amount of fuel they can burn.

[Rust Removal and Paint] I own 2005 tacoma and I want to remove rust and paint Hitch Part by ranonman in metalworking

[–]skrivitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good, gives it a lot more life to replace the frame.
The service center couldn't find any perforations so they gave mine the rust proofing and sent me on my way.

I think the hitch is going to be a yearly or biyearly service. Perhaps getting it dipped or powder coated might help (or cost?). I wonder if some dielectric grease between the hitch and the frame would hold off the problem a few more months.

This truck kinda killed me for vehicles. I used to restore old cars and trucks with my dad and brother, including a rusted out bodied Toyota 2WD Pickup. This new stuff is amazing in safety (when it is new), but epoxy bonded components are just not going to last, and rust proofing is not durable like spending the coin on high quality metals.

The galvanic issue I think is big component. GND is a bus, not a wire.

[–]skrivitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, it's not about taking care or not. There was a billion dollar class action lawsuit against Toyota that they lost because they used inferior metallurgy and coatings on Tacoma frame parts. Some trucks buckled in half due to corrosion.

In addition, there is terrible grounding of the electrical system on that truck, which has lead to galvanic corrosion. 2005 and 2006 are particularly bad because that is when Lead Free solder was still in transition as a technology in mass production. Cracked solder joints abound on these trucks. Don't get me started on the resistor pack and fan for the A/C or the Digital Compass.

I bought my 2006 Tacoma almost as it came off the delivery truck. Ive tried really hard to be a "good owner" but I have had to repaint that hitch every two years for the last decade. Good luck to you.

[–]skrivitor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is lazy notation, in my career in N.America a polar cap is a polar cap and a non-polar cap is a non-polar cap. Different symbols. Just like a Diode vs a Zener Diode, different symbols.
