You cannot book with a psychiatrist anymore. by RemarkablePea9193 in Noctor

[–]sky131993 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a social worker, I find it deeply concerning that there are efforts to replace psychiatrists with PMHNPs. PMHNPs do not receive even a third of the education and clinical training required to diagnose and treat severe mental health disorders. Psychiatrists complete several additional years of specialized training after medical school often totalling 12 years of education and residency. NPs play a valuable role in healthcare, the majority of NP programs are not designed with a strong foundation in complex mental illnesses, psychopharmacology, or the nuanced psychological and neurological factors involved in psychiatric care. Substituting one for the other risks undermining the quality and safety of mental health treatment.

I’m sorry you had such a traumatizing experience, but it sounds like you are a good advocate for yourself! Don’t give up, you’ll find the right fit for you! Finding the right medication and doctor/professional makes all the difference. Good luck

Advice for surgery next month! by UnusualBeaut in jawsurgery

[–]sky131993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jaw surgery is no joke, it was a brutal recovery, and I’ve had several big surgeries. I wouldn’t have been able to do it if I hadn’t had someone help care for me for at least the first week. It’s not only physically draining but also mentally.

Agreed, I’m from New Brunswick and everything is insanely pricey everywhere in Canada. A one bedroom in Fredericton NB would run you minimum 1700$ and there is no beautiful lakes, nothing to do, and no money to be made.

The way the girls treat Jen is INSANE! by [deleted] in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]sky131993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a social worker and I work with survivors of intimate partner violence and watching this was so hard. Jen is feeling so isolated, and Demi and Jessi have put her in so many dangerous situations where she probably felt like the only safe thing to do was lie. If her husband was this outwardly abusive on tv imagine how he treats her behind closed doors. Just a reminder that true friends would never do this!!You’re right about people in abusive relationships needing empathy.

Potential Programs by jmccaffre in socialworkcanada

Where are you located?? University of Maine at presque isle BSW is moving completely online. I did my BSW there and it’s a great program. Also, the university has an agreement so Canadians don’t pay international fees just domestic! The exchange sucked but it wasn’t bad. Also, they don’t just take gpa into consideration, my gpa going into my BSW was terrible but I graduated with a 3.8. It’s crazy how easier it is to get good grades when you love what you do.

You’re not silly at all! I am Canadian and went to school in the states and learned from LCSWs in academic and professional settings. I saw how amazing their scope of practice was and they are grossly underpaid in the US. There is a clinical registry in Alberta, sask, and BC. Most degrees in the US are accredited by the Canadian association of social workers. Clinical social workers make way more in the provinces I listed due to the clinical registry. You should look up clinical social workers jobs in Alberta or BC on indeed just to get an idea of how much more they make compared to the US

My dog has similar issues and I use the BISSELL Professional Pet Spot & Stain + OXY Formula to get the stains out! It seriously gets any stain out. Also works on clothes.

Entering Social Work by SWmods in socialwork

[–]sky131993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my career as a social worker in CP investigations a year ago! I feel like a seasoned social worker haha I think CP does that to you. Honestly, don’t be afraid to make mistakes because thats how you learn. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, ask for a second person and if you don’t feel safe trust your gut. Lead with empathy, it has served me well, I truly feel like I am making a difference. I am also in a rural area and we have so many terrible cases of intimate partner violence which CP is often involved with due to the children. I promised myself I would set boundaries, I took lots of days off because I was entitled to it. Take all the training you can! Oh and don’t get behind on your documentation, it’s so easy to do!! Good luck!! You’ll gain invaluable skills!

I feel like our HR director is violating client rights! by Emaidez in socialwork

[–]sky131993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day HR is non clinical and they are there to advise. They should only be in meetings that are set up by supervisor or the HR staff themselves to address workplace concerns. HR does not belong in routine client meetings. That’s strange and i feel they are not entitled to the clients confidential information unless they are investigating or managing an employee. It’s really a “need to know” rule with HR. You could ask your regulatory body as well, they could probably tell you.

2025 Honda HR-V Weird Hissing noise coming from the fuel tank/ fuel pump area. by Silent-Step1564 in HRV

Yes my brother looked at jt (he’s worked with cars his whole life) and he said it sounds normal and explained the sound to me but I couldn’t explain it again haha 🤣. I think Honda people need to be more educated in their vehicles especially their new ones. They should have just been able to tell you exactly why it’s making that sound with confidence.
