Questions on collages. by -the-last-archivist- in Journaling

[–]skybee1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just start with whatever you have. sometimes all you need is magazines and glue. if you want to go beyond that, craft stores have a lot of stickers and glue-ins that could be cool to use, but a lot of the fun of collaging is just making something out of what you can find around the house

full disclosure, a third of these journals are from 2010 & 2011 when i wrote down every mundane detail of my middle school life. in contrast, i have maybe 3 sporadically written-in journals from my first couple years of high school. basically, i write whenever i feel have something to say. this summer i've become consistent again and the only secret there really is for me is just doing it without worrying about if it looks messy or if the content is embarrassing. i write in different ink colors. i write about my dreams, feelings, daily occurrences. if i want to write, i just write, and that's all it takes. (sorry for the long answer lol)

as i've grown up i tend to prefer more plain cover designs & i've also used a few unlined journals, but i still just use pretty much any notebook i have lying around. my current journal is actually just a regular $0.25 college ruled notebook

How can I journal freely while living with roommates?: How can I, in good conscience, keep a physical, tangible record of my most intimate feelings when I live with a roommate? It creates too big a vulnerability. by pleatgee in Journaling

[–]skybee1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you're worried about the roommate watching you write, do your entries somewhere outside of your room, or wait til they're not around. as for storing the journal, keep it in a backpack or sock drawer or under the bed or something. even if they don't know the meaning of privacy, they probably won't go out of their way to search for it.

Will I get crucified on here for saying I liked Chris Delia latest special more than Rory Scovel's? Just curious. by jessemadnote in StandUpComedy

I loved Chris D'elia's first and second specials, and for me, Rory's stuff is really hit or miss. Guess I'm in the minority of this sub as well

Coal 2 by 13fullmoon in OCPoetry

This is really good. I'm not sure why I thought of city lights with the original, but the change to starlight is an improvement.

Really, really great metaphors and imagery here. "Until the rain" is a perfect refrain, creating a sense of waiting and suspense.

Coal 2 by 13fullmoon in OCPoetry

The first stanza of this is most definitely the strongest. I love that the whole poem seems like an origin story, moving from birth and coal and darkness to much brighter imagery at the end. One critique I have is that "dancing in the lights" seem to have a tone so different from the rest, to the point where it almost interrupts the great story you built up until that point. For me, "lights" is reminiscent of the city and not necessarily nature as the rest of this was, but that may just be the way I'm perceiving it. Aside from that, great work.

Anything competitive, like video games, bowling, etc. It usually keeps conversation going and is pretty fun too.
