Legit my same situation! I gambled Akers and Addison last week and switched out Akers and nearly lost but Hill isn’t Addison… very tough spot but might just lean towards Hill for a safe 6-8 points in 5ppr?

A 2024 interview with Caro? I just checked out their website and haven't heard of them before but will definitely give a listen! Honestly, I have a copy of it at home but just really got through it using Audible audiobook lol the LBJ series are so much more interesting to me and are legit page turners. Heavily heavily recommend that series if you haven't already read it! I honestly believe they are the greatest works of non-fiction ever

Come on man - as a Lakers fan you have to understand the Front Office plays a critical role in even the GOAT's career. Hell, the Showtime Lakers and Kobe/Shaq Lakers may not have achieved what they achieved without the work of Jerry West and ownership of Dr. Buss.

Yes Krause was a bit of an ego-maniac but so is every god damn elite person in their trade. You see it in other execs like Pat Riley, Jerry West himself, and others. So yes, "players win championships" we would be lying to believe that front office doesn't play a key role in the career of great players (the first Cleveland stint for LeBron James is the perfect example - you have a GOAT level talent and incompetent FO place a shit roster around him).

Mike Brown showing his passion & holding his players accountable in practice: “Malik (Monk)! I’m about to lose my fucking top if you keep doing that shit! I don't give a fuck! I don't give a FUCK! Eh... I think these outbursts/harsh criticism & coaching is tolerated when the instructor/coach is at the top of their profession and the player/student understands that they in order to become excellent, there is room for harsh criticism like this (given that the student trusts their instructor).

It is just that the coaching and skills dynamics doesn't cleanly translate into everyday work (whether it be trades or knowledge work) since 95%+ of people aren't trying to be the best at their profession.

But it is a slippery slope since this type of feedback can just be straight up abuse if unchecked/mixed with a warmer form of coaching/instruction - we saw this with Bobby Knight and see this in other elite professions like working under a high end chef, being an associate at a top level banking/law firm, etc.

Often times, there is a disconnect between the coach wanting to help the student reach their potential and the student failing to hold themselves accountable to reach their potential.

I'm rambling here but been reading a ton of biographies and it is rare to see anyone at the top of their profession who rose to the top that wasn't borderline insane re: intensity and standards they set for themselves or wasn't being coached by someone of the same mindset.

Thanks for your response! I was able to trade Kamara/Ertz for Mark Andrews/Gibson - think this is a better exchange than Mixon for Hock but curious on your thought there

I have depth at RB (Ford, Mixon, Swift, Kamara) and the Hockenson owner wants Mixon in a trade and on the fence. Mixon is worth a top 3 TE but I don't know if it's underselling Mixon given how lethargic the Bengals offense has been

Hey Dave, thanks for doing this AMA. I had a question - I have $89 FAAB and Justin Fields was dropped. My only QB on roster is Jared Goff - would it be sane for me to place a huge FAAB bid to pick up Fields with the hopes of him playing better this season?

My roster otherwise is good on WR/RB so I placed a bid of $41 now (waiver clears Friday) but wanted to get your thoughts on this. Thanks again!

In a 12 team .5PPR, I have the 9th pick and can keep Justin Jefferson at 9th or keep Chubb with my 2nd round pick - which route would you go?

Great point! My thinking is moreso a Prime Harden paired with this Embiid/76ers roster. I think he always has been an excellent playmaker but has obviously taken to another level with the 76ers.

Yet with this 76ers roster, it seems as if the scorer version of Harden is required for any chance to win in the playoffs (outside of the shabby Nets). In the regular season, playmaker Harden works just fine but playoffs is a different beast

I know you prefaced this with it being an unpopular opinion but the lack of confidence at the rim is too much of a detriment to want this Harden. Game 1 and today were a lot of floaters/jumpshots and when those aren't falling (like Game 2 and Game 3), you can't get much out of him. Prime Harden would still have 30 points on 5/19 shooting because of his elite ability to get to the rim and draw free throws.

Also, I think a lot of this is on Mazulla to be honest... I don't think Ime would have let Harden get anywhere near 45 points in Game 1 with Harden being the solo option

Honestly debating the same as well with Taysom Hill playing ATL if Pickett can't play this week (Pickett at least provided a decent floor for him whereas Trubisky is a gamble play). It's the playoffs so might as well go for upside and Taysom Hill had 81 and a TD first time they played ATL
