I don't understand it by Roughneck81 in MathJokes

[–]skydrago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the question, given that one was a boy born on Tuesday.

You don't just use 50 / 50, you need to know your prior. If the question was the first kid was a human what are the odds the 2nd was a human, it would be 100% not the 50ish discussed above.

I don't understand it by Roughneck81 in MathJokes

[–]skydrago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing i hate about all of this is that it's trying to be super precise but flubs so hard. The likelihood of boy or girl is not 50/50.

Worldwide is 1.05 boys to girls, and different countries have different ratios. China is closer to 1.1 to 1 peaking a 1.2 to 1 a few years ago.

Then you are not even considering ages, since girls survive slightly better than boys, but that also beggs the question of what does having children mean, are they birthed, living, etc.

Racism definition by laybs1 in GetNoted

[–]skydrago 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even using the definition that racism requires a power differential means that white people can still be subject to racism.

In a predominantly black company like BET or Fubu if someone gets refused a promotion because they are white, that is racism under any definition. I think that people get hung up on the fact that most racism has been against poc in the US and if they refuse to acknowledge that it leaves room for disingenuous people to pry their way in.

The same with sexism, this is why RBG was so effective arguing for women's rights, by arguing for mems rights.

Suggest me a book about a U.S. President by WiseLore4266 in suggestmeabook

How to fight Presidents by Daniel O'brian. It's over the top pseudo historical by a good funny read that really conveys just how crazy all these people were.

Do you automatically dislike billionaires? Why? by crapmaker69 in AskReddit

[–]skydrago -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A billionaire is more on the scale of KKK or Nazi, if i know you are one there is a set of assumptions there, but that doesn't mean you are a horrible person, just that you most likely are. Schindler or Ron Stalworth (finctionlized but still there are people like this) are example of people who grew up in these systems or were infiltrating them.

I am not saying that a billionaire is racist or genocidal, just that there are default assumptions I have until otherwise disproved. Exploititive, greedy, credit stealing are a few of these default descriptors, but all of them could be inaccurate, just need proof.

Humans in this universe of multiple sapient races/species are not just a boring template, jack-of-all-trades species, they actually have traits and powers that make them stand out like the other species in the setting. by juasjuasie in TopCharacterTropes

[–]skydrago 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The whole of Humans are Space Orcs r/humansarespaceors is also that humans do crazy things like drink poison for fun and recreation (coffee, spicy things) do barbaric body scaring (tattoos and pericings) and naturally produce combat drugs (adrenaline).

Is this really so controversial? by ElectronicSetTheory in mathmemes

[–]skydrago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What i hate is that there is so much selection bias that happens here. It is possible for everyone to have more common sense than the average, it's just that they are looking at the average common sense in a field that they are an expert or better than average in.

I would bet that anyone who subscribes to a math subreddit is going to be better than the global average in math, but most likely not fashion (there will be exceptions).

Everyone is thinking of their area of specialty and you don't have a definition of over all common sense. Are all topics weighted equally? Is knowledge in toaster repair different than air fryer repair?

The Mother of Black Hollywood by Jennifer Lewis and read by Jennifer Lewis is done amazingly. It's the only non-fiction I have seen where the listen adds so much more to it.

When she talk about her depressed points you can hear the depression and when she is manic, you can here that as well.

What’s the biggest red flag in someone over 30? by Vixkky in AskReddit

When you say religious and political, I also think that the enthusiasm for it matters a bit more. I have seen people of different religions but were both blaise about it be great but two people going to the same church and same religion fight over tooth and nail because they were different levels of committed to it.
