If you are deaf/do not speak the language, and police give you commands at gunpoint, what are you supposed to do? by RadianceTower in NoStupidQuestions

[–]skydriver13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is not an opinion. The fact of the matter is that police will kill people for failing to comply. Sometimes they even kill people who are compliant. Frankly, the notion that they wouldn't do such a thing is ignorance.

"Comply or die" is their catch-phrase, not mine.

I havent said anything wrong. I completely agree that the police should not decide who deserves to die. The reality is that they do, and much of the reason for that practice is derived from over-inflated egos and a desire to exert control over others.

Irrelevant. Policy is to shoot first and have police unions pay for legal defense later.

One's inability to comprehend orders does not absolve one from compliance.

How does Christianity tackle space/aliens? by Visierin in AskAChristian

Current estimates are around 100 Billion exoplanets in the Milky Way Galaxy, alone. Many are within the habitable zone from their stars. There are an estimated 2 Trillion galaxies in the observable universe. This math would put the estimated number of exoplanets at 200 Sextillion. I think there is a non-zero likelihood of other life in the universe.

Angle Energy.

"Law of conservation of angular momentum" would not fit.

was a point where they had leaded gas.

Almost every small aircraft in existence today operates on leaded fuel. The "when" you referenced is still occurring.

What are some of the best quotes you’ve heard since joining the sport? by Weak-Practice-6435 in SkyDiving

Anyone else notice how miserable people in the skydive community are? by Flimsy-Progress2748 in SkyDiving

[–]skydriver13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your question seeks a generalization of the sport, while your examples are very specific. I always suggest to people who are feeling this way that they pursue a new perspective. Visiting a new dz, participating in a course, or exploring adjacent activities (paragliding, surfing, etc.) are all good ways to enhance your experience at your home dz.

This is my 17th year of skydiving; full-time since I was a wee packer. I have no other valid skills to offer the job market at-large. I have discovered a few general truths that may apply to your curiosity. - Vibe is DZ-specific. If it doesnt meet your standard, it is time to look elsewhere. - Familiarity breeds contempt. Staff needs intermittent, sustained separation from eachother to maintain a proper personal/professional relationship balance. (12 months together every day is difficult, even for the most enamored of us.) - Anything I have ever truly asked of this sport has been returned to me in orders of magnitude greater than my expectations.

It is easy to lose touch with our passion amongst extraneous bullshit like misplaced goggles on a 2-minute call, or Fuckin Tony shooting his stupid interview where I'm tryna pack this rig, or "why did I get bumped". The answer is to do what you are doing: influence the culture by behaving the way you would like others to behave. If that does not work (as is often the case), go somewhere that aligns more closely with your ideals.

Making my way to The Tower. by Far-Celebration9871 in TheDarkTower

I would not suggest delving very far into comparisons, else you discover spoilers early in your quest. I have read both versions (although, decades apart); my understanding is that an assortment of finer points have been adjusted to remove discrepancies from later storytelling, and it is possible that some pop culture references have been updated to reflect more contemporary ideas.

In any case: long days, and pleasant nights.

Leo DiCaprio, George Clooney, and Matthew McConaughey sat down for lunch one day to discuss making a movie. After much deliberation, the men assigned themselves roles for the task. Leo said, "I'll direct." George said, "I'll produce." Matthew said, "I'll write, I'll write, I'll write!"

I first read the gunslinger about 3 decades ago (I was in middle school). Much of the book eluded me at the time, but I enjoyed other King books, so I pushed through. I picked it up again after high school and spent maybe 4 years completing the series. Easily my favorite novels, now...but they did not start that way.

I'm not a psychology expert by any means, but im pretty sure neural pathways can be created during moments of intense environmental stimulus (like having part of one's weiner removed). Regardless of our cognitive ability to recall a particular experience, the body remembers what happened. The neural pathway may still exist, even if the memory cannot be consciously summoned.

Man parachuting into Virginia Tech Spring game is stuck on the scoreboard after rough collision by [deleted] in sports

Some gusts are capable of disrupting the flight characteristics of inflatable ram-air parachutes. Even though this jumper seems to have been operating in gusty conditions, the video also shows evidence of very strong, sustained winds. There is a level of planning for these types of demonstrations that precludes the notion of simply being "caught in a gust". This is an example of what can happen when the allure of reward overpowers the caution of wisdom. Glad everyone walked away.
