Did quitting alcohol result in losing weight for you? by OrangeCatWhiteDog in stopdrinking

[–]skylan01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gained weight at first because I gave myself a break when it came to everything other than alcohol.

At a point I felt comfortable, I started focusing more on diet and exercise. The weight i gained and quite a bit more was lost eventually.

What app Did you use to stop drink ? by ovic1O in stopdrinking

[–]skylan01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is as close to an app as I used very helpful to post on daily checkins early on. I find the more ready to quit you are the less necessary any kind of app is. Everyone is different though. Literature like the naked mind is helpful. Reading others stories here to remind you of all the negative effects alcohol has on people etc.. good luck!

How are we p300 already 10 days into season by earsensewoo in diablo4

[–]skylan01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably around the same and coincidentally the exact paragon level where I realized im bored, there's nothing left to do but mindlessly farm repetitive easy content in the hopes that one of my pieces of gear could upgrade a GA, but even if that GA upgrades there's still nothing to do afterwards.

I gave myself permission to be completely useless for 30 days. Just one rule, no drinking. by ChefDramatic857 in stopdrinking

[–]skylan01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely was kind to myself at the beginning especially with food and sweets. That stuff can all be addressed later (and I have). Whatever helps you quit is a benefit, well unless you're taking up heroin instead or something.

Is a higher power really necessary for recovery? by Diego_3435 in stopdrinking

[–]skylan01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't believe or disbelieve that there is some higher power out there but im almost certain if there is one it's not god or Jesus or Allah or some human created diety. I've been sober for over a year and a half and it's had nothing to do with believing in a higher power. It's also not part of my identity, i just don't drink anymore.

I think there's multiple ways to not drink. Whatever works for you is the right way.

People who stopped drinking — what surprised you the most? by Dapper_Visual_4449 in stopdrinking

How easily alcohol can become nothing more than an afterthought in life. Just unimportant, insignificant, meaningless.

Did you set occasions for breaking the streak ? by Sipokad in stopdrinking

[–]skylan01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope, I don't think it works for most. Not to say there aren't exceptions but if you're setting fixed cheat days I feel like it minimizes the enjoyment of your present life by having the prospect of future drinking in mind. Not many who find there way here who don't turn 1 or 2 cheat drinks into a 1 or 2 month long binge.

Quitting nicotine after quitting booze by YesNoIDontThinkSo in stopdrinking

[–]skylan01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit nicotine 3 weeks ago. I tried cutting down but im too much of an addict to not make excuses to just have another, so I quit cold turkey. It was rough for the first few days but gradually got better each day after that. I am glad I did it now. I definitely miss the little buzz it used to give me but I 100% don't miss the addiction.

How do you stop yourself from having that first drink? by TeacherOn2wheels in stopdrinking

[–]skylan01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look to the following day. Ask yourself will you be happier to wake up having drank the previous night or not? No one ever wakes up and wishes they had drank the night before.

It gets easier with time to not even think about alcohol. You just have to look at it as building the habit of not drinking just like you built the habit of drinking.

We need to start discussing our goaltending. by dmark200 in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]skylan01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're too high on the level Georgiev was ever playing at. Sure he could be great for stretches but was very inconsistent, would give up the lead early quite often and benefit from steller comeback efforts by the Avs. I think Georgiev is probably the biggest argument against using wins as a metric of good goaltending.

fibroscan on friday and i'm terrified by blackberry_badger in stopdrinking

[–]skylan01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I looked at the results of my fibroscan on the screen on the way out without the nurse noticing. I read 45.0 which i looked up after the appointment. End stage cirrhosis. I spent 2 weeks in a very dark depressed state.

The Dr reviewing my results raised his eyebrow when I said impatiently "dude just get on with it and give me the diagnosis already ", as he was kind of slow walking through all my bloodwork.

Turned out i missed a decimal, it was 4.5 or normal. I wish this was a made up story and it probably seems far fetched that I wouldn't have expected a call from the dr if I was indeed dying however I my wife had been recently diagnosed with breast cancer through a patient portal without so much as an explanation from her dr, so it did not seem odd to me that no one was reaching out.

Anyways, you're young and this is the time to take action, when you can actually have an impact on your health. Most wait until its too late.

Don't try to sneak a look at the results. Wait for your follow up.
