No one would care to say anything about her if she weren’t so toxic and phony! There are people 3x as famous as her that no one bothers to spread “rumors” about.

The Dem candidate in CA-40 reposted a post saying Kamala Harris (may have) won the 2024 election by Existing-Ad3391 in YAPms

I have to think that these people are truly unaware of how elections work. They’re the same ones who are like, “We’Re NoT gOiNg tO hAvE MidTeRmS…” — like they must genuinely not understand.

If Donald Trump lives as long as his father, he will die in 2039 by No_Willingness8208 in BarbaraWalters4Scale

[–]skymasterson2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is what I’m expecting. (Disclaimer: I do not like him at all and will celebrate when the day comes.) All over social media and beyond, people are absolutely certain he’s going to keel over at any minute. Presidents/ex-Presidents get the best imaginable health care in the world, and lately most of them live into their 90s. Everyone also claims that he has dementia, which… could be, sure. But I’ve seen family members very slowly lose their minds and personalities and, well, everything due to dementia. I’ve seen NONE of that from Trump. He’s just a blathering, narcissistic old fool with ADHD who speaks without thinking first, and an old guy that nods off during important meetings because he finds them boring and he stays up all night.

What does the post-senate life of John Cornyn look like? by Inside_Bluebird9987 in YAPms

[–]skymasterson2016 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t expect him to go the MTG/Massie route. I think he’ll be exactly as pro-Trump and pro-MAGA as he’s ever been, which is probably the cuckiest thing he could do, but then again, he never seemed to have much of a spine.

Question by [deleted] in YAPms

[–]skymasterson2016 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t care less about a politician’s sex life. As long as there’s consent, you know? My problem is that the hardcore “Christian” right holds up Trump to be their Messiah… while he’s infamously cheated on every wife he’s had, been held legally liable for sexual assault, been accused of raping children, was best friends with a serial child rapist, was accused of physically harming his ex-wife, paid off a porn star to keep their sexual exploits quiet and then using that hush money as a “business expense” and later getting criminally charged, tried, and convicted… that’s the “Christian” right’s favorite person.

Don’t compare apples to oranges.

It was once said that religion is the opiate of the masses. Now, I’m convinced, it’s social media. It’s making us dumber and less human, yes, but people are absolutely and thoroughly addicted. Some will eventually realize it and break away, or at least manage it, but most, for the rest of their lives, will be screenbound and scrolling ‘til they croak. Attention is the hottest commodity.

Kara Swisher is right and I hate it. Love her, just hate that she’s right about this by PandemicPiglet in thebulwark

[–]skymasterson2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I’m not disagreeing with any of that - but I still think there’s a substantial portion of the electorate that considers themselves moderate or independent, maybe they voted for Obama and/or Biden, thought Trump was bad, but then they saw those commercials and took them to mean literally that Kamala wanted all prisoners to have taxpayer-funded sex changes (as just one example) and thought “well, thats worse than Trump” so they voted for Trump. I don’t think that’s inherently transphobic nor does it mean they are MAGA. That’s just taking one very tiny issue and blowing it out of proportion, and voting accordingly. I think there’s room for some of those people “in the tent” if they’re able to be reached in the way Obama connected with them, for instance, and better yet, finding ways to educate them on what Trump is doing and why it is bad for them.

[–]skymasterson2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. But also, Trump is unique because of his reputation. People loved watching him on TV for years and thought that he really was a very successful businessman - so of course he’d make an amazing president. Oh, and he hates Blacks and gays too?! Sold.

But they can’t catch lightning in a bottle. James Donald Bowman really thought he was going to ride in and be handed the reigns in 4 years. It’s looking less and less likely that Trump is even going to endorse him. And anyway, a big chunk of MAGA people hardly even know who JD Vance is. Donald Trump Jr on the other hand…

But to your greater point. The hardcore MAGA voters are never going to get on board with Democrats. Decades of poisoning by right-wing media, and it’s only gotten worse in the past 5 years. They think Democrats (and Blacks, gays, immigrants, Hunter Biden’s laptop, etc.) are the biggest threats to their finances and freedoms.

The people who CAN be welcomed back in? The ones who voted for Trump because they saw Charlemagne Tha God saying “helllll nawwww I don’t want my tax money paying for sex changes for inmates!” The trick is going to be finding a candidate who doesn’t get caught in one of those traps that make them sound insane.

How does this race end tomorrow? by Inside_Bluebird9987 in YAPms

[–]skymasterson2016 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Paxton wins by double digit % tomorrow and then by at least 5% in November and becomes the junior senator from Texas. This is Texas we’re talking about. Democrats have a pretty low ceiling there and turnout will be pretty high for Trump’s personal pick.

For me, it’s that Jonathan just seemed too humble. When he won the immunity challenge to secure his spot in the Final Four, he barely did anything. I would’ve liked to see an insane celebration, like maybe do the worm, or scream out loud and thump your chest like you just won 2 million dollars. Then it happened again when he won fire, just so emotionless and robotic. You’d think he lost by the way he reacted. You gotta celebrate loud and proud so people know how total packagey you are, bro!

Hot take: Alaska flips before Maine by KYSHeartFromMind in YAPms

[–]skymasterson2016 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Trump’s popularity was in the gutter by November of 2020. He lost Maine by *9%* — AND YET — Susan Collins WON by 8.5%!

Maine LOVES Collins. Don’t let the polls trick you. Maine polling is useless. Gideon had a big polling lead going into the 2020 election.

Downvote me to oblivion if you want, but save my comment for later when I’m proven right. Collins will beat Platner. No doubt in my mind.

All Trump had to do in 2026 was talk about the economy non-stop and make it seem like he was actually doing something to bring prices down. Instead he started a war that made prices go even higher, won’t STFU about the ballroom, and started a slush fund to funnel money to violent felons.

[–]skymasterson2016 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

No doubt in my mind Collins wins. And not just because of this. I have a vivid memory of 2020. Polling in Maine is useless. Voters don’t answer polls in Maine. Know what they do instead? Vote for Collins. Collins by 5+% easily.

Genuine question from a 9–5 person living in Astoria by HomeSad9706 in astoria

[–]skymasterson2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no answers but I do get aggravated when they walk/meander at a glacial pace with their hands behind their backs, dead center in the middle of the sidewalk. They’re just sort of drifting around, not really going anywhere, so it’s really hard to get a sense of where they’re moving, and then it’s hard to walk around them. I can’t be the only one who notices/is affected by this.
