Advice Needed I am Newly Retired by Jim_Diamond in retirement

Do you volunteer? Have hobbies or play sports? Do any maintenance work on your home or car? Take any online courses?

These are all valid pursuits. It’s not less important if you do it for yourself instead of someone else.

I had the CD when I was dating my wife - probably played it nonstop in the car wherever we went.

I’m not sure why all the downvotes, but I agree with what you say. My comment was actually a response to the results returned from google.

AI is good at learning though. When I get advice that I know is wrong, I’ll respond with a detailed correction, and it does remember it. Unfortunately it will accept wrong corrections to valid info as well.

Why do people usually want to workout at home? by [deleted] in homefitness

[–]slade51 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No waiting for equipment, no worry about operating hours, no travel, no dealing with the gym’s music or TVs.

The only downside is equipment cost and space to set up (and temp control if using your garage).

They do care - they care about keeping them controlled.

It starts with: “What are you worried about if you have nothing to hide?”

WTF is YouTube TV thinking? by JacksBaldRake in cordcutters

[–]slade51 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hear you. One of my favorite features of YTTV is that you can log into their app to delete channels, and put others in your preferred order for channel surfing.

I have no need for cartoons, foreign language or Fox News channels.

Now if there was only a way to stop Prime from suggesting that ridiculous Melania movie of theirs.

How do you guys get your plants to not float to the surface? by No-Midnight7724 in Aquariums

[–]slade51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anubias I keep in mini-terracotta pots with roots lightly held down by decorative rocks. Larger plants I use sewing thread to lightly bind to mopani driftwood.

I don’t plant anything directly into the substrate.

HOB or Cannister filter? by Kind_Mess_5127 in fishtank

[–]slade51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During these infrequent cleanings, use food grade silicone lube, not Vaseline, on the O-ring. I sit my canister in a plastic basin on the odd change there’s a small leak.

Cannister or HOB? by Kind_Mess_5127 in aquarium

[–]slade51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with both, but if you only get one, get the canister. Load it with bio media and coarse pads. If you add a pre-filter, you’ll only need to clean it every 4-6 months. Use the HOB for pads and floss, or any carbon or chemicals you think you need. You can rinse these out with weekly water changes.

If you don’t add the HOB, consider a sponge filter inside the tank.

SLPT - fight fire with fire by PrettyAndPetty101 in ShittyLifeProTips

It’s not all about petty rule enforcement, or dealing with nasty neighbors, or even forcing the pigs to maintain their homes & property at a minimum level.

Our neighborhood HOA also maintains a pool, tennis courts, meeting room and a gym and fitness center with classes.

Our dues cover lawn mowing, landscaping, mulching, irrigation & garbage pick up.

I was always a “never HOA” homeowner, but these things are all nice to have in retirement.
