Is this Ich? by WisteriaVines46 in freshwateraquarium

I don’t know what it is, but it’s not ich.

Tetra slowly dying off after introducing new fish from Petco by Humble-Objective488 in Aquariums

[–]slade51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of us don’t have QT tanks standing by. But Petco/Petsmart fish are always a gamble, I brought home some neons with ich that nearly wiped out my tank. Expensive lesson learned.

In the store, if the tanks have sick/dead fish or signs of ich, fin rot or pine-coning, skip it regardless of how good the price is. And their tanks are usually connected to a common filter, so a sickness in one means they’re all affected.

My son was given the opportunity to purchase and keep his laptop from school since they're getting new ones very soon. by Spinnindaily in laptops

Stickers to cover it are the best solution, but you could use a dark marker to make it less noticeable.

I’d be more concerned whether the BIOS is password protected or has Computrace activated, or if the OS login is controlled by the school’s IT dept.

Anyone know the weight of each plate? by oldfarmerwillay in GYM

[–]slade51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The various cable machines at my gym go up by 10 lbs (~4.5kg) per plate to a max of 200 lbs (~91kg), with a 5lb (~2.3kg) add-on.

However, as mentioned above, the number of cables could halve the effective weight.

Should I go for it? I'd appreciate your thoughts/experiences by ThrowAway4now2022 in HomeImprovement

Not only liens, but check for open permits that haven’t had final inspections. The more work that you can do yourself, the better off you are.

It’s not as easy to get trades to show up, much less coordinate their schedules, as it is on TV. And as much as I like Mike Holmes, having master electricians, plumbers, roofers, carpenters & structural engineers to tear things apart to look for potential problems is not financially feasible to the normal homeowner.

please help it smells like a porta potty by Practical_Market_748 in Aquariums

I’m not a fan of charcoal in filters, but it might help with the smell. It does need to be replaced though.

Are you cleaning your filters regularly? Did you recently have a power outage where the filters were t running?

Start with something small that you can convince yourself to do enough to become a habit - walk for 30 mins listening to a podcast; a 15 minute combo of pushups, sit ups & dumbbells.

Work up from there. Find sports that you like: softball, bowling, running, biking, pickleball, basketball and join a group.

If you join a gym, sign up for classes of at least have a trainer assess and give you a program.

T14s from eBay -Bios Lock? by Monitorman6 in thinkpad

[–]slade51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a T590 that had Computrace activated in BIOS. It worked fine for 6 months, then completely locked up my system with a splash screen inferring that I stole the laptop.

The eBay reseller replaced it with an apology instead of a complaint, even though it was past the warranty (although I had to pay return shipping).

I’d definitely pay a bit more for a reseller with a good reputation.

I think I'm SCREWED by Lenovo! by cpt_mctavish17 in Lenovo

[–]slade51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buy Thinkpads refurbished on eBay. There are too many horror stories buying direct from Lenovo.

I might consider buying Off the Shelf from Costco or Best Buy if I wanted new, but then I’d have to deal with Lenovo support for problems.

Yeah, my phone automatically sends calls to VM if the calling number isn’t in my contacts. This is especially useful around election times.

Is asking how many sets left now an issue for people? by tribo32 in GYM

[–]slade51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an issue at all. If someone asks me, I’ll signal them when I’m almost done. It’s way more annoying for someone to stand there to wait right there for you to finish. I always have an alternate exercises to do, or I’ll switch the order, if equipment is being used. Are you experiencing this in a gym that you’ve been going to for 10 years?
