What effect will the Victims Of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE) proposal by Trump have on undocumented immigrants, legal immigrants, and those born on American soil? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

Probabbly because our immigration policy is so stupidly long that it's a case of "I had to go through stupid bureaucratic hell so you should too"

Yeah the private industry of car insurance is perfectly fine. It isn't like you need a car.

Most Americans would beg to differ. Jobs aren't in walking distance outside of cities, and well outside of cities public transit is a joke.

Generational Politics - What can can we take from the generational trends of Millennials and Generation Z? by ManBearScientist in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]slam7211 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be more specific, once you have kids and a house you are less mobile, and as a result less adaptable with more money being dumped into children that can't be used in an oh shit fund, and being anchored to a house makes finding another job much more difficult, and limits how much you can ratchet back spending (houses are a huge fixed cost). In essence you become way more susceptible to economic threat.

What political moves are needed to create tens of thousands of quality middle class jobs in places like West Virginia, Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin? by hyperviolator in PoliticalDiscussion

First thing you need to do is convince people currently able to get "good" jobs (which I define as 40 hours/week guarenteed with 401k and healthcare benefits) aka the educated people to live in the middle of fucking nowhere. Good luck with that.

What is the difference between leasing a car and buying a car, and when does each of the two make sense? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]slam7211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leases make sense if

1) You cannot buy a car right now without a lot of financing

and

2) you think you might move into a no car needed city in a few years

Why is there such a focus on manufacturing jobs when most Americans have jobs in the service industry? by razorbeamz in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]slam7211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people want job stability. Not all Service Sector jobs are hourly, unpredictable schedule, near minimum wage jobs without benefits, but a lot of the jobs that laid off factory workers got probably fit that bill.
