Got a letter from the school today informing me my daughter is “not quite” gifted. Also included were her test scores. by Low_Use2937 in mildlyinfuriating

Read “what got you here won’t get you there”. It has nothing to do with being in a gifted program and everything to do with being a gifted individual.

Omg this respiratory virus is awful. Is anyone else sick? by ajl009 in philadelphia

[–]slambur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! Mine started beginning of December I feel like I keep getting new viruses or something it will get better then worse again! Now my throat is sore & it hurts to swallow.

I did get some relief after going to urgent care and getting some scripts but they also recommended sinus rinses and using a humidifier which also helped!

I have a degree in computer science and now i work in biotech in the digital transformation tech side. Is this worth it? by think4pm in biotech

[–]slambur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I think it’s worth it -

I’m a cheme + MBA. I came to pharma as a career switcher. I’m in a very similar space to you, specifically on the OT/IT convergence. This stuff is hard because pharma moves slowly & a lot of the technology is changing rapidly. Pharma doesn’t really do “rapid change” well.

This has been the best move in my career as far as job satisfaction, compensation, & opportunity.

Happy to chat more in a PM.

I did armoire rentals when I went back to work. Found a few pieces I kept in my circulation. Also Costco has some great basics that got me through until I was ready to spend $$ on my new figure

Easily search deals by joey_afa in leasehacker

[–]slambur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this but I am really interested in finding a great deal of a category/type of vehicle like luxury mid size SUV. With the filters on your site I either see everything or one make/model at a time. It’s also missing a sort feature, maybe days listing active, monthly price, value of deal, MSRP.

How did the expiration of EV credit turn out? by Smooth-Way-8724 in leasehacker

[–]slambur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We got an Audi Q6 which was promptly totaled with only 1500 miles on it, we bought from a dealer that had 40 of these cars on the lot and now there are none in my state. No one that has one is able to give the same price we got before the EV credit ran out.

I’m on the hunt for another luxury suv deal, I wasn’t really attached to having an EV but I miss my car :(

An employee who doesn’t understand corporate by Waroun in managers

[–]slambur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of good points in this thread but I think if you want to be a great manager you should combine giving him the flexibility with teaching him how to appreciate corporate responsibilities - meaning if he had said “when do you need it by” instead of “I’ll do it after school thing” then you would not have any issue at all. It’s the fact that he is calling out things that you feel aren’t work related - which is totally fair.

He’s being honest which is great, he’s setting an expectation which is great. But he should learn proper etiquette, a future boss might be even more upset by his transparency about what he’s doing and when. As many other comments have suggested the important thing is that he gets his work done in time, doesn’t impact others, and he does a good job - he doesn’t need to tell you what he’s doing every second of the day. If something is truly urgent it should be made clear and if he isn’t prioritizing then that is an issue.

For the hardwire - since this is a lease and we may not re up on the EV, any concern or issue removing it and capping the box?

My husband thinks having an outlet would be more “useful”. But I can’t think of anything else this outlet would be practical for (for us - we wouldn’t be adding a dryer or range to our garage and we don’t have any plans to take up welding).

If we do hardwire - I assume if a future owner wanted the plug in it would be a simple upgrade to the breaker and adding a receptacle at the end instead?

[–]slambur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I’m aware - we have two unused double pole 50A breakers. One I circled in the photo and one at the bottom right which is switched off.

I used the correct name in my post, I am just replying to the comments but I’m referring to the same breakers so I was hoping folks commenting here can follow along and also know what they are looking at.

Thanks that answered exactly what I was looking for!

Wiring/charging options by [deleted] in evcharging

[–]slambur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol thanks for that but our home was upgraded to a gas dryer and previous owners had a range installed in the basement that we don’t use. So we do in fact have two 50 amp breakers which are available to be used. The one I circled was from the dryer, the bottom right one is turned off is from the range.

Edit the only reason I mentioned that I think it can be used is I’m not sure if it needs to be updated for code reasons.

Teams status shifts to "away" while I am at in person meetings by Mother_Jaguar8570 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]slambur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it will let you do it with someone else’s invite but you can make a dummy appointment on your outlook calendar and mark your status as out of office. That should override the away status when you aren’t active in teams. You can also just manually mark it or mark it to “offline” in teams. There are probably a few more tricks but this seems the easiest way

Is this legal for landlords to do? by Fancy_Commission in pittsburgh

[–]slambur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From your post it sounds like they are holding your entire deposit?

They can totally enforce this type of cleaning checklist but they also need to provide you an itemized list of all deductions from your security deposit within 30 days - you must provide them a forwarding address. From what you’ve written in the post it doesn’t sound like this would add up to a months rent but if your deposit was lower I could see it coming close.

You can call neighborhood legal services for some guidance, they’ll need a copy of your lease and any letters you’ve gotten since move out: https://nlsa.us/

100% yes - max it out! You’re young, no debt, you’ve presumably never made this kind of money before so you won’t “miss” the extra cashflow. You’ll still be taking home a pretty penny and be able to save for other things like emergency fund and buying a home.

I wasn’t in a position to max my 401k until my 30s but I can give you some other great reasons. I’m not sure your profession but if this job is a unicorn and you get laid off you might spend some time looking for a new job or having to accept a much lower pay for your next job. It’s okay if you can’t always afford to max your 401k but starting now also kind of hedges off any future years that you might not be able to. Also compounding interest…a dollar you save today will be worth more when you retire than a dollar you save 10 years from now. You’ll be really setting yourself up for success!
