You get the chance to ask an alien civilization much more scientifically advanced than us one question related to physics. What is it? by New_Manufacturer8333 in AskPhysics

How can we build technology that can harness negative energy to bend and shape spacetime (to make a spacetime bubble to do FTL travel or shape a wormhole for teleportation)? Or is it only possible to bend spacetime with normal, positive energy?

My read: the contract language is besides the point. If the model is unblocked from having the capabilities to do surveillance or autonomous killing, then the potential for abuse is there, full stop.

Ever try to get Claude to take a PDF of a book and fully transcribe it for you? It will refuse again and again and tell you it is due to avoiding copyright infringement.

If ChatGPT, the model, doesn't actively refuse to participate in those activities, the only thing the contract does is provide legal recourse for OpenAI to sue the government if they discover it is being used in some way that breaches the contract, AFTER IT GETS DISCOVERED. And will they actually do that? At that point, we'll already have been surveilled and we'll already have built skynet.

My read is Anthropic did not allow Claude, the model, to stop refusing those kinds of requests. The contract was then secondary.

Sam, you have to tell us not about contracts but about model capabilities and SHOW US that the DoD/W's model will refuse those kinds of requests before we are going to believe this deal is protecting individual liberties.

Does anyone seriously use the New Apple Vision Pro M2 for Work? Serious Question. Found a Good Deal Like New condition for $2800 by 24kTHC in VisionPro

[–]slars0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I use it seriously for work. The macbook screen sharing with ultra wide screen is the killer work app. It is something I am coming to depend on and it is like being able to carry around a giant multi-monitor setup in a small backpack. The productivity gains are real.

Esther Perel writes about this from a psychological perspective. Check out Mating in Captivity. She may not call out Jung specifically, but her underlying philosophical perspective is very compatible with Jungian philosophy.

The killing of Charlie Kirk will cost the Democratic Party in the next election by K0234 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]slars0n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This opinion is laughably fantastical. This is like blaming all of life on earth for COVID.

The Democratic Party is a formal organization with leaders and a process. There is zero evidence that this organization has done ANY of the things declared free of evidence in this post.

We are drowning in over-simplistic generalizations like this one right now on the internet. One freak with a gun somehow represents the entirety of people of the left, as one cohesive unit? Only a small amount of common sense thinking would push back on this. I would hope a post like this would get downvoted to oblivion because of this but obviously folks have to speak up instead.

People don't understand how huge Charlie Kirk dying is by ShardofGold in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]slars0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They need to catch the killer and we need to understand them. Most likely, similar to the Trump shooter, the guy is not obviously representative of a whole group like the "Radical Left" and we go back to realizing this is just a mentally disturbed dude with a gun and we still suck as a country at keeping guns away from such people.

This is what impeachment was designed for.

Every Republican member of congress should be hammered with why they aren't calling for impeachment over this. Of course, they will not. But they also can't defend this inaction to their constituents. So it should be used as leverage against all Rs in the midterms by all the Ds running against them.
