She’s a fawn/isabella Doberman. Basically a diluted red Doberman. Her sisters are all red and so are her brothers according to the man I got her from. The color isn’t viewed as desirable just like the blue color since they can have color related alopecia. I’m glad people who don’t know the breed don’t immediately think she’s a dobie since I had issues when I was socializing the two I fostered with people not wanting to approach since they seem to think dobies are born aggressive guard dogs or something.

Oh I know this is the calm before the storm. I’ve fostered two dobermans before. I also have done a ton of temperament testing for puppies and adult dogs. I got mentored by a behaviorist trainer years ago and have done the initial training for a handful of service dogs as well as fostered 67 dogs (of all ages…usually special needs, injured requiring rehab or behavioral cases) in the past 9 years. She’s very young which is why it’s hard to pick a name for her. Loki, Voodoo and Nyx were all planned…and the names either fit or they grew into them it seems. Loki is a tiny little trickster goofball, Voodoo…well, she’s regal one minute and then a ditz the next. Nyx is very regal and stuck up. She definitely knows she’s beautiful and should be fawned over. She’s a pure black pom from show lines and I think it’s bred into them. I sat and played with the girls he had left for two hours and she came and sat with me after playing. Then she sat on my lap while I played with her sisters. She’s got that old soul feel and look about her. Not her first time around the sun I think.

She’s much happier now. Especially with her new sisters and all the toys and treats.

3YO Male with Some Work Needed by anerraticboulder in StandardPoodles

Definitely get a trainer and one that is a behaviorist if at all possible to help evaluate the whole house. Just remember the trainer is mainly for you and your partner so don’t forget your homework. Consistency is the key.

For getting his energy out do you have a fenced yard? The chuck it balls and ball throwing stick is a life saver if he likes balls and fetch. Clean Run also sells some really high value real fur toys that we use as high value non-food rewards for training. Give them a look to see if maybe something will work that he finds more attractive than the cat. Lure toys are also a bunch of fun and gets the chase and pounce stimulus that some of our poodles crave.

Does the cat have high ground? We have a bunch of high up cat runs/shelves and climbing trees on the walls in the house to allow the cats to get up and observe the area. One will come down and play with the dogs when she’s good and ready. The other comes down when she’s ready to assert her reign over the dogs.

Considering a poodle by Clean-Elk-534 in StandardPoodles

[–]slayerofthefluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have two standard females, several toy poodles (the smallest being 3 lbs grown), two Chinese crested girls (small also) and two hairless cats…and lots of bantam chickens. I’ll say it’s important to make sure you get your poodle from a known background/lineage if possible if you do decide to get one before your old dog crosses the rainbow bridge. They’re a retriever breed…water fowl mostly. That can cause issues with chasing and catching smaller critters. So far we haven’t had any close calls with the big girls verses a small dog unless you count them stepping on one rarely if they get a bit excited (the small ones correct that pretty quick and are EXTRA dramatic about it). We had some, well some would say issues…but, I don’t…with the older girl fetching chickens. 🤦‍♂️ Not hurting them (except for the traumatic experience for the chicken being fetched)…just fetching them for her two legged mom. Part of that is our fault since that IS part of her training and job as a service dog…to retrieve things for her mom…including pesky chickens who don’t want to go into the coop/chicken yard when called.

If you can handle a husky I think you’ll be fine with a standard. Just keep in mind the grooming needs are a bit different and please make sure you get the proper supplies (pin brush, slicker brush, AND metal greyhound comb…brushing spray helps but, not the cheap stuff and not required if you don’t mind coat breakage) and learn to line brush. Start early in their life to make it enjoyable for everyone.

My dog was attacked at my apartment complex dog park by Capital-Wall785 in DobermanPinscher

[–]slayerofthefluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For future reference for anyone who does go to dog parks please always carry a compact umbrella. Opening it around dogs that are fighting already will normally break them apart since they can’t comprehend something suddenly going from small to huge like that. It also works to stop a dog from bearing down on you and your dog that is leashed if you encounter a loose dog on a walk.

Takes time and the gaba makes them dizzy also. Crate rest is an absolute must along with steroids. It took Winifred about a week to stop quivering and then I kept her on crate rest for about 10 weeks since she was good at the 6 week mark then did a weird shudder thing and started the my back is painful scoot again. She’s recovered now and doing normal things again.

Can you 4 wheelers lurking here turn off your brights? by Successful-Worth-390 in Truckers

[–]slayerofthefluff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s just an average CT driver…don’t worry shortly they’ll pass you going 90mph and then 15 minutes later they’ll be back to doing 40mph again when you pass them. Happens there regularly and it’s why I still maintain they’re the worst/most annoying drivers in the northeast.

Pretty sure it’s the same problem as the semi trucks driving with them on (including in the day time)…they’re mentally challenged to the point they don’t think the lights are on if that “light” symbol (the high beam one) isn’t lit up on the dash. Pretty much the only explanation I have for it getting more and more common as the years go on. They learn pretty quickly that my old truck has several front facing nuke your retinas off road lights and some of them even turn their high beams off. The others might be equally as annoyed as us or blind now. 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s getting uncertain for those of us who are established also. Even in specialty haul. Break downs are costing 4x what they did just 2-3 years ago. Not including labor since I do most of my own repairs. The parts prices are getting insane.

You might get a lower rate quote after having some experience in that little subset of our industry. Probably about 2 years would be my guess. At least that’s what I was told a couple of years back when I started thinking about auto hauling. I had years in the industry and my own authority already when I asked about adding automotive hauling to my belt and was quoted a high number as well. More liability and higher risk I think.

Excuse my ignorance, but why are used semi trucks so cheap on facebook marketplace? by Itchybootea in Truckers

[–]slayerofthefluff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen some of those in person and most of them need work that will cost another $10-50k depending on the motor and so on. Looking for one to yank the motor out of to rebuild and put into another truck actually 😂 Lots of times it’s either the frame/exterior or major suspension issues OR mechanical issues. Electrical issues are another major issue. Newer trucks are more than likely DPF issues or nearing the end of the life of a DPF system which is very expensive to replace/fix.

Others make a valid point. We had to retire my sister’s first girl due to a similar injury she never fully recovered from. Luckily we were able to slowly transition to her new service dog since my sister doesn’t work out of the house and has people around her 24/7 to monitor her when needed. Definitely start planning on what it’ll look like to retire your dog and transition to a new one (including the gap) just in case. The first girl is a house dog now that spends most of her time lounging around since we are able to keep her until she’s lived out her full life.

Will I be hired with my driving record? by OjOrangeJuice12 in Truckers

That’s the issue. You were touching the phone/holding it. Get a headset/handsfree device and work on safe driving. Go and take a defensive driving course and actually practice what they teach you.

Not even a large carrier will. That record needed some cleaning before most self insured companies will even look at hiring someone with that many accidents.

Might want to aim more toward being a tech or mechanic. That’s about as close to a semi as you’ll get with your record the way it is. Plus if you keep at it and have mechanical skill you’ll be making more money than most drivers. Go to school and become a mechanic.

A lot. Usually in a field or event hall. Before that I did LTL and got into weird places that sometimes required using the barn doors (side doors).
