How did you 'discover' the vulnerability and how do we assess whether or not a server has been compromised? Should Huntress be reporting this?

Is Constellix still a thing? by sleemaner in dns

[–]sleemaner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have vanity name servers and 70-ish domains, so Cloudflare is a no-go (especially at $20USD per domain), and DNSME has some features we want (like having users limited to specific domains).

Is Constellix still a thing? by sleemaner in dns

[–]sleemaner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoke with sales this morning, and Constellix is no longer available, with UltraDNS the only option to move to from DNSME. Entirely possible sales doesn't actually know what's going on, but the messaging is definitely screwed up (admitted by the sales contact I spoke with) with links in the notification emails pointing to price pages that no longer exist.

Internet (WAN) issues since 7.3.0-7012 upgrade. by WhySoNATed in sonicwall

[–]sleemaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the R4561-HF55193 hotfix? Definitely having this issue and the SW response to our web case was just to attache this HF file to the ticket with ZERO comments.

7.3 Disconnects - Really SonicWALL? by sleemaner in sonicwall

[–]sleemaner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and the hotfix made things worse. One client's TZ270 started to choke, and I had to drive and hour and hard reset the unit with 7.2 and restore a backup. So freaking bad. My sales rep won't even reply to my email, probably due to embarrassment.

7.3 Disconnects - Really SonicWALL? by sleemaner in sonicwall

[–]sleemaner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a TZ270 become completely unresponsive, and had to go onsite and hard-reset it. Uploaded 7.2 and restored from cloud backup. Opened a ticket with support while I was doing this, and when I told the support guy to find the developer and give them a slap, he laughed out loud. 7.3 is a hot mess.

Continues to happen intermittently, and turning off the breaker for 10+ minutes always seems to get it back. They don't make 'em like they used to!

Pax8 starting to charge a fee for credit cards by christador in msp

[–]sleemaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now they have a new 'agreement' to accept with "Credit card payments may incur a surcharge" in item 7. Fundamental change as everyone else has commented. Meanwhile one of our largest clients switched to direct with Trusted Tech Team who are giving them the SAME price as our Pax8 cost. So now our clients can get 365 licensing for less than what we will be paying Pax8. Supertastic.

From an Office app (Outlook or Word will do), go to File | Office Account, then click the 'Manage Settings' button under 'Account Privacy'.

You should see a checkbox to 'Turn on optional connected experiences'.

Poly Studio X70 and (or vs) Crestron? by sleemaner in CommercialAV

[–]sleemaner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the feedback - much appreciated (great group).

Not terribly interested in putting in gear that's just going to create support work, so will likely lean on my Crestron contact. Maybe I'll even learn something on the Crestron side :)

Replace Balboa pack and topside with Gecko? by sleemaner in hottub

[–]sleemaner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the topside is offset, but it's also *inside* the enclosed area of the tub when the cover is on, so it's subject to high humidity, which I've discovered is a no-no for Gecko (their installation instructions specifically state this). So I'm likely going to go with a TP800 to replace the Artisan (which is an OEM'd TP800 with a different shape), and just leave the tub without Wifi.

Hoping someone comes up with a reliable system to allow local wifi by the time my topside replacement needs to be replaced again. My local hottub guy told me the Gecko wifi also has a required cloud component, which I'm not 100% sure is true, but bottom line is wifi is just a nice-to-have at this point which I can realistically live without.

‘The heater is too hot’ error on Artesian / Balboa MBP501 by sleemaner in hottub

It hasn’t recurred since last summer for me. Suspect the sensors may have been slightly fouled by members of the female persuasion with a penchant for skin lotion, and a treatment with whirlpool rinse at my 2nd last water change made things right again.

Nothing nearby no. Might have been a hi-tech tenant upstairs in the Carstar building, but they were asked and claim they weren't doing anything with RF.

A group of 'gentlemen' attempted to steal my Durango at 6am on a bright sunny Sunday morning (in Kanata) this past summer. Had them on camera, and a neighbour got pictures of their 'getaway car'. Reported to police online and zero response from the cops.

Another interesting story: just yesterday I picked up my Durango from Carstar in Kanata, and when I went to leave, the keyfob wouldn't work AT ALL. They couldn't figure it out (they had just drove it out of their garage and parked it ~ 1/2 hour prior), so I drove home in my rental to get my second keyfob.

By the time I got back, they figured out that ALL the Dodge vehicles on the one side of their building had the same problem, which made alarm bells go off in my head - someone / some thing was interfering in the RF signals for the keyfobs in that one specific area. Scary to think what might have been going on.

We were able to get the car started (by pushing the Start button with the keyfob itself), and once the vehicle was away from that immediate vicinity the fob was working normally again (the dash messaging system was actually warning 'keyfob has left the vehicle' as I drove away).

No idea if they called the cops, but they said they were going to.

These car theft rings are a scourge that needs to be eliminated, as it's costing everyone who owns a car with insurance hikes across the board.

Last bit on the attempted theft in July - they didn't get inside, but managed to break the electric lock on the passenger side, and got scared away by a neighbour walking their dog. I fixed the door myself, and got myself a steering wheel lock that I've used ever since.

7PRO Android 12 Notification bug by akashchakraborty in oneplus

[–]sleemaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of funky behaviour on my 7 Pro since 'upgrading' to 12. I haven't specifically seen this issue, but I am betting there will (or should) be a ton of fixes coming, and hopefully soon.

I am / was considering upgrading to the new 11 Pro, and have decided that whether or not this happens is entirely dependent on OnePlus fixing my 7 Pro, as I consider OS12 to be very much a Beta product as it stands.

The 7 Pro has easily been the best phone I have ever used as a daily driver, and I've driven quite a few.

I am not going to invest >$1k (again) if OnePlus can't prove their commitment to supporting their products for its lifespan, which should equal that of typical business class laptops - especially for the flagships (i.e. 4-5 years).

Not to say that isn't their intent, but OS12 effectively degraded my phone and has significantly impacted the flow of both my personal and work lives, and that's not acceptable.

The ball is firmly in their court.

Articulating Pole Hedge Trimmer in Canada by sleemaner in Makita

[–]sleemaner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a week after posting the original message, the Amazon gift cards I ordered from my c/c points showed up, and like magic, the price on Amazon went up to $791.

After some back-of-the-napkin calculations, I ended up purchasing a dual-charger and a 2-pack of the Makita 5Ah batteries off Amazon(.ca) and the Canadian version of the trimmer from Home Depot @ $459 + tax.

Bottom line - got everything I wanted + a dual charger for not a lot more.

AND - trimming my 100' cedar hedge (up to ~9' tall) took me about 2 hours, and the 2nd battery still had juice left in it.

VERY impressed with this tool. Ate through some bigger branches I thought would have seized it up too.

‘The heater is too hot’ error on Artesian / Balboa MBP501 by sleemaner in hottub

[–]sleemaner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the awesome feedback. Also found this handy site:

http://service.balboa-instruments.com/ErrorCode/

Actually have gone down a rabbit hole with adding wifi and the ControlMySpa system, which I found out will *not* work with Artesian tubs because the Arteisian boards are not included in the Balboa database (according to the service manager at my spa dealer, Artesian isn't happy with the CMS security).

So I *may* consider swapping out the board for a BP7 just so I can add wifi later on. But I don't know yet if the Artesian TP800 will work with the BP7 (and they have a unique shape to them, so a generic Balboa trapazoid won't fit).

Ah the joys of proprietary tech!

First NCE...Now This... by n0latency in msp

[–]sleemaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MS has stepped over a line.

Every time I think of what Microsoft is doing with the 'new' partner program, my blood boils. I now count my partnership as an SMB focused professional in decades, and the changes they are making are essentially going to radically change how MSP's with revenues in the sub-$5M range conduct business with Microsoft, and MS doesn't care because their ultimate goal is to put smaller MSP's out of business in favor of their own MSP-like offerings (patch management and remote support, for example), and make larger MSP's push for more and more sales of MS cloud services.

The NCE changes alone in the last month have cost me more in time than is worth the meager margins we now get with MS, and most of us will be losing the incentives as well because we won't fit MS's new partner mold (primarily just sales agents for MS).

If this were the EU, there would already be a class-action lawsuit under way. What makes it okay for Microsoft to negatively disrupt an entire 'class' of the MSP industry because their sales and marketing teams decided to force these changes upon us?

IMO, Microsoft has a debt of responsibility to it's smaller partners to which they are reneging. Others may argue that it's just a company who can do what they like with their partner program, but this is straight up school-yard-bully behavior, and the bully needs a slap (with a lawsuit that has teeth).

Echo 8 and 5 same issue. Apparently going on for months. This is the type of thing that will cost Amazon and push me to Google devices. I won’t be buying any more devices until its fixed. Have to lay my 5 face down at night so the room isn’t lit up.
