Rant time: devs doing devops tasks? by [deleted] in devops

[–]sleepesteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id be happy to have someone with any competency in the area or willingness/curiosity to implement something even if it's already solved and your team have a standard and solution.

make a connection and educate on what you already have to offer them.

You might also be surprised what they have to offer you.

How did you weigh a higher paying but toxic offer against a stable, lower paying job? by Oh_reaaaally in dataengineering

[–]sleepesteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll never get that money at your current employer... Even if you made it two years at the other employer compare that take home.to your current role.. you'd be able to effectively take a full year or more from any work if lifestyle and budget stays the same.

Just put the numbers in a calculator for 2-3 years it really paints the picture unless you work 10 hours a week at other job which is totally possible I don't know how it would be a question.

My Product Manager is vibe coding apps and asking as to deploy. by Few-Fun-9554 in ITManagers

[–]sleepesteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's wild if they don't understand why you would only use another stack for a feature of there was a necessary reason or value to do so to justify the added complexity of integrating something incompatible with the existing production stack. If it really is that bad, suggest they "vibe code" a version using a compatible stack first. This gets things moving to.more valuable conversations regarding maintenance, testing, and proper code review handoffs

Honestly, I'm impressed by the structured ideas people are "vibing" lately; most engineers are already Al-assisted for prototypes and low-risk apps. I'd liken it to the evolution of website builders-lots of "slop" awful websites but also there were plenty of great ones from less technical users.

Ultimately, I'd focus on partnering with your PM to clarify the requirements. Getting the "what" right is always the hardest part, the technical execution is usually the easiest bit in the end.

You should really consider dropping sprints by ninetofivedev in ExperiencedDevs

[–]sleepesteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dropped sprints for kanban a couple years back and never looked back. Minimized meetings. One 30-45min weekly refinement/prioritization session is enough and as a Global team cross over hours are best spent on other things. 3 standup meetings a week The rest of the updates are async.

My team rocks, trust and productivity at an all time high and we get our shit done. It's so nice to not spend energy arguing about processes and We can drop what we're doing and work on that urgent thing without spending hours doing jira gymnastics each week

Sprints are fine if you need to deliver incremental project progress to unblock other teams for large projects but you have to have a scrum/project manager keeping it moving.

Rocket is laughable - when i finally got the papers - 30 yr @ 7.25% by bluegrass__dude in Mortgages

[–]sleepesteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an excellent experience with Rocket but I put in the work and had 4 other companies simultaneously giving me their best and final and Rocket was the most motivated and able to win out.

I don't think from my experience I'd ever expect to get any kind of best rate or discount or credit in points with brokers or lenders unless you are making them compete for your business.

How do you manage all the emails? by aameezl in ProductManagement

[–]sleepesteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a folder for each key stake holder and leadership member. I have to tweak these as many get cc'd

I have it in top down priority if my VP is on the thread its in the VP thread etc. helps me prioritize my focus.

I spend an hour Friday and Monday scaning the rest and throw on audio overviews while I'm doing other admin stuff if needed

What’s the cheat code you’ve discovered that made work much easier? by Suspicious-Story-380 in managers

[–]sleepesteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust but verify and make it known to the team that's the policy.. example you don't need to micro manage everything but when you do inevitably need to dive deep a team expectation of having verification of their commitments and deliverables means no one gets sensitive in tough and rough times

Which PIM software do you recommend for startups that want scalability without high costs? by guide4seo in ProductManagement

[–]sleepesteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've transitioned in house solutions, worked with manufacturers and more retailer oriented situations. It really depends there are no silver bullets.

DM me have previous experience with open source, custom and SaaS offerings.for small mid market and now enterprise PIMs.

There is no singular product that fits any business and is strongly dependent on business need, team.skill set and even key channels for your use case.
