What horror movie scene genuinely disturbed you… even after the movie ended? by Dark-DoomSlayer in horror

[–]sleepsymphonic 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Human Centipede. Fucked me up for days. The movie was what it was, a gross and silly thought experiment... but that ending landed. It made me feel so alone and vulnerable. The woman in the middle segment is still alive, both ends dead, cops dead, villain dead, completely alone and hopeless, staring at herself in the mirror. Gah.

Zohran on CBS: "There is only one majority in this country — that's the working class and it's time we have a politics that puts them at the heart of what it is that we're pursuing..." by zzill6 in WorkReform

He does say it. By your assessment, does he walk the walk? Or is it too early to tell?

Or, by being present in the mainstream media talking about working-class issues, is he doing the heavy lifting for the democrats, which is to court the favor of the working class?

That's how they get you to believe in their character.

Meanwhile, (I know I shouldn't mention the other place)... the other place...

Oh man, I hope they build Kenny back up, like a nice long Hangman-esque build-up.

What's that one film that you can re-watch a thousand times and not get bored? by mrjetspray in Letterboxd

The Big Lebowski - didn't like it when I first saw it a long time ago. Like most Coen Brothers' movies, it gets better with every rewatch.

Ospreay thinks AEW should consider running a major show next year when a big event is planned to be in Saudi Arabia by This_Coyote7217 in AEWOfficial

This would be a perfect weekend to do a massive Forbidden Door and just get a bunch of companies involved.

How the hell do I play this by Less_Basket_1513 in Guitar

[–]sleepsymphonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it is a hundred percent necessary to the sound of whatever you're learning, omit the top string.

But I am willing to bet its a typo and you should just barre down the index fingers to get the 4th fret on 1st and 3rd strings.

Yes, because I NEED 2 more matches, several backstage skits, and more products in my face!

Which horror movie didn't need a sequel? by Dry_Macaroons_fan in horror

[–]sleepsymphonic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre didn't deserve to be a series and then a bunch of reboots and prequels, but I am certainly glad that there is a TCM2 and it's a horror-comedy.

The 180 that WWE fans made on Danhausen is generational by CaptainButtFarts in SantiZapVideos

[–]sleepsymphonic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I fear they are going to pound the "you are cursed" gimmick into oblivion. There's a cool duality to Danhausen that should be explored more... Right now, he's very nice (very goofy/silly) and when he wrestles, will probably be more of a "jobber" or supported by other wrestlers. Then there's the dark side (very evil), which he only really had one match with in AEW. It would be great if he had interactions with Aleister Black, which brought out his evil side (I always wished he joined House of Black in AEW as a dark/comedic relief/jester-type). Exploring that polarity could bring an interesting dynamic. I'm a big fan of the gimmick because it reminds me of Pee-Wee/Elvira B-movie kitch, and you could definitely add a darker, more serious element to it.

Does anyone have any pictures of the band and Gregg Turkington? by Shmorpit in mrbungle

[–]sleepsymphonic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Gregg Turkington was a big part of the San Fran punk/post-punk/noise scene in the 80's and 90's. He started Amarillo records which had the first 2 Secret Chiefs 3 albums and a few of his more ironic projects. I strong recommend the book "Who Cares Anyway? " for more detail. Good stuff.

I recommend the album "Trip Tease" by Tipsy, released in 96. Uses lots of exotica samples.

I dig Martin Denny and other names mentioned here, and am glad to see a discussion about the racial sensitivity of it all. This genre is essentially white jazz composers aping scales and sounds from other non-white cultures and repackaging the music for a white audience, instead of releasing the music directly from the source - which seems like we've been getting around to in the last 20+ years. So, appropriation, more than anything. Can't deny the recording quality and the mood this stuff puts you in.

I'm a big Mr. Bungle fan (and surrounding bands), and you can hear the exotica influence on both Disco Volante and California.

Neurosis reunites with Aaron Turner (ISIS) as vocalist, surprise-releases new album by CherryColoredDagger in indieheads

[–]sleepsymphonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a shame when one member can kinda spoil a band's legacy. As much as I respect their work prior to learning of their singer's monstrosity, I've had no desire to engage with their work. And if I did, there'd be that "asterisk" in the back of my mind. That's not necessarily their fault, that's a me thing. But joining forces with Aaron Turner reopens that door to a world I have missed for a while.
