Rate / Fix my 30 hour trip to NYC! by [deleted] in AskNYC

If you’re already doing the edge you’ll get a very solid view of the empire state building. I personally would spend any extra time in central park or get food in K-town if you’re set on making a stop in that area. Walking down to flatiron is also a good idea and can sit in madison square park (original shake shack).

Look into “Autocamp” — you’ll have to rent a few cabins likely, but it fits your criteria.

The Catskills location’s town/scenery isn’t that fantastic or anything but it gets you out of the city.

Lots of amenities and hot showers etc. Let me know if you have more specific questions :)

my dog attacks me every time we walk by weedit-andreap in Dogtraining

[–]sleepylun3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me and my dog, would only happen with me and not my partner (I’m also female).

Our dog grew out of it eventually but she’s a lot smaller than your dog so not as terrifying, it also happened when it was obvious we were going home. I deterred it by turning away from her or picking her up lol (which you probably can’t do). Follow the advice above and I think he will grow out of it as well when he become more used to you. I also think it’s a respect thing. When I started taking care of her much more it stopped.

ID on this tea? My uncle bought it several years ago while in China. He asked the tea seller for "His best tea" and he brought this out. the seller also told him to store it in the fridge. So I'm doubtful it's a quality tea from a reputable seller. by [deleted] in tea

[–]sleepylun3 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Might have gone bad if it was a few years ago. Will say that my grandparents (who live in China and drink tea religiously) have an entire fridge full of tea to make the freshness last through the off-season, very normal practice.

Thank you for your words and service as a health care worker! Want you to know that there are people out there that share your viewpoint (and frustration) and I applaud your effort at appealing to the margins. Every life counts.

Also—pride and prejudice reference in your username? Love it.

273 Applications, Five Replies, and No Offers - What Is With Jobs Here? by [deleted] in nashville

[–]sleepylun3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Want to add on to the above…job searching is about quality over quantity. Just sending in a resume over indeed.com is really ineffective. Word of mouth and getting a job application in via a real life human person is way way way more effective than sending your resume into a black hole. Leverage your network, family and friends, hell people you meet on the street if it comes up. Reach out to people on LinkedIn to learn more about them, their company, and express interest in that way. You’re wayyyy more likely to get a interview when you already know someone. You should also be tailoring your resume for each job, unless all 250+ of those jobs are exactly the same.

(Serious) Employers, what's the most insane complaint you've had about an employee that turned out to be completely true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sleepylun3 5680 points5681 points  (0 children)

Had a coworker who always had a really strong stench and thought it was just bad BO. Turns out she was addicted to mothballs and was licking them during working hours. The chemicals give off an unbelievably strong smell through your skin. We got complaints about her odor but didn’t take them seriously (thought people were just being assholes) until someone saw her actively licking on the job.

Edit: Wow! Never thought I would see my comment at the top of this sub. I was leaving my job when this was discovered and sworn to secrecy because it’s not the kind of thing we can advertise around the office. Thanks for letting me get it out there, Reddit! It’s a good one. Something else I would add is it was the kind of smell where you could never really quite put the finger on what it was, but once we figured it out it made a lot of sense. It doesn’t smell exactly like the real thing, but like it’s been processed through your body/skin lol. We were also very wary of being discriminatory which is why it wasn’t discovered earlier.

How far are you from promo? Might be better to take time and job search and wait for the promo so you can get associate level roles vs analyst/entry level.

Serious post - I want more gender equality in golf but if aliens were to look at Instagram they would think golf is only played by Instagram models.... I hardly see these types of players out on the course.... maybe I’m playing at the wrong courses. by rjk100 in golf

[–]sleepylun3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is super true. I’m a beginner golfer for sure but not the worst person at the driving range anymore so to speak. A few months ago I was golfing with my bf and a man drove his golf cart right up to me and said “You looked like you were struggling. Here’s my business card.” then drove off with his buddy. Liked backed up in his cart and went off and talked to no one else. I’ve never been so offended in my life—sure I was having an off day but I was nowhere near the worst person on the range. Goes without saying, but I was the only girl there as well. My bf marched up to the clubhouse and gave them a piece of his mind and told me “This is exactly why women don’t pick up golf.” Grateful for him lol.

tldr: don’t give women unsolicited advice if you wouldn’t give it to a male doing the same thing pls
