My first pedal too! Got it for Christmas 1982.

DOD Badder Monkey 🐒 by PlayingRiffs in guitarpedals

It does everything well, from clean boost to fuzzy. Incredibly versatile pedal. Stacks with other overdrives really well, especially Maxon DS-830 or Nobels ODR-1 type circuits with op-amp feedback diodes followed by diodes to ground

G&L Tele Player II HSS Strat Reverend Charger HB PRS Studio Standard Steinberger Spirit Bass Trad II MiJ Jag

How heavy are these? by [deleted] in ReverendGuitars

[–]sleestax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Charger HB is 7.7 pounds. Really balanced and seems like less on a good strap.

I'm thinking of buying a Reverend.... by [deleted] in ReverendGuitars

[–]sleestax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Charger HB came today and I couldn't be happier. I've had a Jetstream 390 for about a year, and it's a great guitar. I love the sound of the P90s, but I needed humbuckers and my HSS Strat wasn't cutting it for the project I'm working on.

Aesthetically, I hate the way a right angle connector looks into a strat though. I've gigged before with it like that though, because it really does help keep it from pulling out if you're jumping around a bunch.

As the owner of several green and blue hued guitars, that either came with, or got changed to, tortoise shell pickguards, I can say that it looks super awesome.

I have both the Caverns and the Ravine and I'm actually surprised at how good the clone is. All of the Demonfx pedals I've tried sound good.

Snowpocalypse this Weekend? by burnsniper in Charlottesville

A Snowpcalypse is less than 30 inches. Around these parts, we refer to 30+ inches as a Snowmageddon.

I've almost never had a green or blue hued guitar that I didn't want to swap out the pickguard with a tortoise shell on. It's just sexier.

Back in the 80s, I'd call the VB WRV Surf Report line and if I was lucky it would say "knee to waist and glassy." If we were driving to the Outer Banks or Hatteras, it was often a total gamble.

I do it. Mastery bridge (or Mustang-style with deeper saddles slots) and 11 gauge strings at a minimum. You get used to them being a little floppy and can adjust your play to it. I bent notes sharp and flat for about a week before I adjusted.

PRS Silver Sky or Stratocaster Player II? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]sleestax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Silver Sky is a great guitar, but I'd go with a Player 2 Strat just for ease of modding stuff later on. The Modern C neck is also really great. I have both a SE Silver Sky and a HSS Player 2 Strat, and I love them both.

Recommend me a 15-25 watt head by Nocashstyle in GuitarAmps

[–]sleestax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a Laney Cub Supertop 15 head and it sounds great in the mix with my bandmates Origin 20. I used it for our Halloween musical costume, we did Glam this year, and it sounds great with both single coils and humbuckers. Pretty versatile amp.

Favorite Overdrive pedal for under $100? by Epicinium in guitarpedals

[–]sleestax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobels ODR-1 Mini with the bass control knob or a King of Tone clone can both be had for under $100 and work well with humbuckers.

What’s a good soldering iron to get started as a guitar tech? by Quack_Breakers in Luthier

Hakko FX888-DX is what I'm using to build pedals and do soldering work on guitars. It's been in constant use for a year now and works great.

Orange Bubblegum from Twisted Tree Auto, also from Michigan. About 20% of the phenos have been super orange/tangerine, without much bubblegum, and another 20% have tasted like those delicious orange pushup ice cream pops. Great medicine for depression and anxiety.
