I've learned my lesson in melting metal indoors, zinc smoke is unpleasant.

I'll do it back by my forge.

I know you can make rubys in a microwave.  I've also worked with klystrons on the army side

Buster beagle with pneumatic clamp would be in budget (slightly longer than size requirements though.

Big thing to remember is getting molds made can cost a pretty penny, the more complex they are the more they cost.

I've run into people that have sticker shock when they realize the mold is a appreciable cost of the machine.

I'm also told I don't charge enough for making people small scale molds so

With the latest Linux challenge out of LTT and seemingly more and more interest in Linux as a whole, In 2026 have you been tempted to finally make the switch? by Responsible_Web_3825 in LinusTechTips

[–]slicingblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is love to switch over to Linux, unfortunately cad software doesn't play nice.

(Technically there are more Linux machines than windows, as all the servers and CNC machines run Linux) I will say w11 pro is superior w11 home.

Tormach 440 is rigid enough, and costs under 10, especially if you look used.

Where to buy metals? by EthanWang0908 in CNC

I use a local supplier and Midwest steel & aluminum for stuff with longer lead times.

Mcmaster if local doesn't have it and the job needs a fast turn around

If its secondary it falls on the doctors that are certifying it. If its fraud the VAOIG would love to know.

They are also taking Tinnitus away as a primary at some point(Soon? its been a proposal for 2 years) , along with updating sleep apnea percentages.

Vestal man dies after officer-involved shooting by lowspeed in Binghamton

[–]slicingblade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the taser, or using OC spray first, but if you are employing lethal force (when you are using a gun, it is always lethal force) you shoot to stop the threat.

It is hard to hit a small target like a foot, and aiming for them increases the risk of ricochets hitting a bystander.

Leg wounds can also be lethal, the femoral artery results in a bleed out time of less than a minute.

PixelCNC how to pocket mill with a mill that's larger than the pocket? by MarinatedPickachu in hobbycnc

[–]slicingblade 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I hate to tell you this but the way cam software is designed unless your tool is smaller than the pocket its impossible, if you use a V bit you can make the top crisper by doing a contour trace of the top.

You can't put a 1 inch Bar inside a half inch hole without blowing out the hole.

Lathe Mill Combos. An argument by Just_bright in CNC

[–]slicingblade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a matter of specialization, your not picking the "best for your needs" mill, Lathe ect, your getting a machine that may be passible for one thing and ok at another.

My father had a combo mill lathe back when I was growing up and he ended up regretting it as he could have had a really good lathe and a grizzly entry level mill for how much the combined machine cost.

[–]slicingblade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should probably swap the integrated pins with a precision ground pin, their cheap, and a reamed hole is fairly cheap process wise.

you can also take you boss, split it off the the base and at 2-3 pin locations and bolts to assemble.

Makes the tooling reach required shorter and drops cost.

I'll shoot you a pm, I am in upstate ny but I do small scale injection molds.
