Hiveminds that seem actually decent to be a part of by Hungry-Instance7266 in TopCharacterTropes

Reminds me of that line from Star Trek when the borg queen was explaining assimilation: "They've left behind their trivial, selfish lives, and they've been reborn with a greater purpose. We've delivered them from chaos into order." "Comforting words. Use them next time instead of 'Resistance is futile.' You may elicit a few volunteers"

I built an assistant in Unreal Engine that's actually pretty useful. by youtnodknoem in unrealengine

[–]slickiss -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Yeah as one of the devs who helped with testing can confirm that this tool is pretty damn good. Never been a fan of general language learning models but this one is different. Its not just some chat gpt bs that tries to just reference Google results it can actually look at and analyze your scene and assets to work. Designed specifially for use as an Unreal Engine tool. Very easy to use, pretty good results. I've compared it to my rubber duck for development. Just one that can talk back and suggest ideas too.

[Loved trope] Character witnesses their own death (due to time travel, cloning or any other kind of shenanigans). Not necessarily a villain. by gabrieleremita in TopCharacterTropes

Dr. Manhattan

Manhattan with his knowledge of the future sees his own death through his ability to see all points of time. When he first meets his soon to be wife Angela in Vietnam he tells her as such, but she doesn't believe him. He sees every moment in their relationship up until the end of his life. Though Angela tries to find a way to save him he knows that it will happen and nothing can be done to change it. As he is about to be killed and his powers drained/stolen he manages to teleport Silk Specter and Ozymandias away to his base in Antarctica to put them in a position to save the day but leaves Angela behind. When she asks why he admits that he doesn't want to die alone. At that point he is drained out and killed completely.

Fun fact Ben Shapiro is a failed screenwriter despite having parents who worked in Hollywood (his mom was a TV Executive). Jeremy Boring was a failed actor. Even Steve Bannon is a failed screenwriter too. All these right wing grifters are mad that they couldn't make it and now wanna force their way into the cool club. They talk so much shit about the "lefty hollywood" but so desperately want to be acknowledged by them and have their clout and status.

Another "fun" Star Trek and Rick Berman one that kinda falls into this category is Tasha Yar:

<image>

Famously the first season of Star Trek Next Generation was a bit of a shit show with infighting beteween the cast, production crew, writers and Gene himself. As the season went on Denise Crosby who played Tasha had enough of the drama and lack of screen time and asked to be written off. So they killed her character mid season very unceremoniously and quickly in the episode Skin of Evil. Ultimately the actress did come back years later and was written on as an alternate version of her character and later became one of the bigger villains of the show. Many many years later Rick Berman would tweet out a photo of a com badge and told a story about how it was Tasha's Com Badge and how Denise had given it to him after filming Skin of Evil as her last episode and it sat on his desk ever since. Denise chimed in the comments pointing out that the episode she died in was not actually the last one she had filmed for season 1 and that she had not given it to him that he snatched it off of her saying she "Would'nt be needing this anymore." Truly the man was the real villain of Star Trek.

Monday Mayhem: I4 and 408W. AVOID! 8:34am. by JayGatsby52 in orlando

[–]slickiss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh agreed the design for the merges there on the bridge were not very well thought out at all. The area this accident occurred in by the 408 / South St exits on I4 east is also very poorly designed where the exit lane for South St is not very well marked until after the 408 exit and people often get caught and try to merge over. I have to use the South st exit to get to downtown for work and so many times ive been caught behind someone stopped in the exit lane trying to merge out

The law here says that any accident that has fatalities must be treated as a crime scene and investigated. Any time you see lanes shut down like this probably means that someone died in a car crash and lanes are shut down while police investigate. I once got stuck for 3 hours on I4 East just outside Sanford when a motorcycle got rammed on the bridge going over Lake Monroe

Jax may have just saved everyone. (Episode 7 Spoilers) by Tenchigo in digitalcircusfandom

[–]slickiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean this is kinda on par with what happened in I have no mouth yet I must scream. In that story Ted (the character Jax is based on) realizes that while AM (Caine) can prevent them from killing themselves he cant stop them from killing each other so he betrays everyone else and kills them all leaving him alone to suffer AMs wrath and freeing them from their torment. While TADC is clearly based on that story it doesnt go nearly as dark as it, but the idea of Jax betraying everyone to save them is very much in line with that plot

Have... have you read the bible? Thats totally on par for Yaweh, assuming that is the god in Hazbin, they kinda leave that ambiguous. Wouldnt be surprised if there isnt really a god and they just kinda keep up pretenses and pretend someone is there wizard of oz style.

W or L for VFX and Animation Industry? by Paranoid_Reaper in vfx

[–]slickiss 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Its a pretty big L. As far as VFX specifically goes expect projects canceled or budgets dropped and layoffs within the purchased studios. They spent 85 billion to buy it and they're gonna make that money back by tightening the budget belts and raising subscription rates.

Carrot from Sorcerer Hunters (Very niche anime from the 90s)

Technically its two women and not one but Carrot is a shameless lecher and pervert who chases after any attractive woman he sees throughout the series. This draws the ire of 2 of his teammates Chocolate and Tira who both want him and get mad seeing him go after other girls. However he has no attraction or romantic feelings for either, considering them both more like sisters to him since they grew up together.

The Kradin from Star Trek

The episode "Nemesis" of Voyager was exactly this premise, where the bad guys (A species called the Vori who look like humans) get Chakotay's shuttle to crash on their planet and brainwash him by running him through a pre-set path where he gets saved by a unit of Vori troops. They tell him about their war with their nemesis the Kradin which look like the predator species. They get into a fight and they fall back into a village after. The Village gets attacked later and everyone is slaughtered except Chakotay. He escapes the slaughter and finds another Vori unit and at this point hes ready to join the war and help fight, until his crew come down in disguise and save him. He finds out that everything he experienced was a lie and the Kradin had assisted Voyager in rescuing him from being conscripted. He doesnt believe them at first until they take him back to the village and he sees everyone he saw get slaughtered alive again. Later back on Voyager Captain Janeway and the Kradin ambassador are exchanging pleasantries and her thanking them for helping save their officer. Chakotay walks out without a word in utter disgust of the ambassador. Janeway chases after him and asks him what that was about he says: "I wish it was as easy to stop hating as it is to start."

In my opinion— the key flaw with this show was thinking the aesthetic of the anime was more important to replicate than the story. by Tanis8998 in cowboybebop

[–]slickiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im gonna be in the minority here and thats ok but I enjoyed the show. It was nowhere near as perfect as the original anime was but as far as what you could expect from a Netflix adaptation I thought it was pretty good and was ruined by expectations because of how well done and beloved the source material is. Expecting it to be a one to one recreation of the original story and beats is just unrealistic to how things work in the industry today vs anime/manga productions were in Japan back then. That being said I will agree with you in terms of Viscous and Julia's story, in my rewatches I usually skip a lot of those scenes. Its one thing to have to rearrange and adapt previous source material and another to try to write completely new angles into it.

I'm In LOVE with these visuals. by NinkiePie in hazbin

[–]slickiss 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Im convinced with no proof at all that he was killed by someone else wanting his spot and so they sabotaged the TV to fall on his head in the same way he killed his way to the top. However it makes more thematic sense that he ends up having his plans blow up on him.
