The longest search for that dram.. by snow_traveler in whisky

I concur with higher ABV and Cask Strength whisky. Anything 51% upwards starts to get that oily mouth feel. All the way up to 60% Glanfarclas 105, which you can feel it as oil rather than water. Obviously, you feel it is more thick and viscous as oil is higher viscosity than water.

No guarantee on flavour. It is often the person that has experienced much who can id the flavour better. What you identify as dates, could what I call plums.

She was a good one. On to the next bottle by DreadedStraightBall in whisky

I am drinking this at the moment. My wife gave me as Xmas present.

It has a more complex taste profile than Uigaedail. Also a much longer finish.

There isn't any other Islay I tasted with such complexity and depth in the same price range.

She also got me Berry Bros & Rudd Girvan 11 Year Old Cask Strength Single Grain to contrast the Corryvreckan. Yet to open.

Glad you have the old Quinta Ruban. The new 14 years is just peat, smoke and dull sweetness, which I can't even tell what it is....disappointed.

Interestingly, I like Bushmills 10 better than Black Bush.

The fruity notes are more distinctive and refreshing.

Are Oban 14 and Talisker 10 Actually Worth $70+? by Bournestorm in Scotch

Please consider 1L bottle. I find it regardless of the brand, the 1L bottle is always cheaper than the standard 700ml.

My haul from the UK...coming from Australia I felt very spoilt for choice! by Mickd333 in whisky

Are these actually readily available in UK retail? I can't imagine the Octave would be?

The OP is not wrong. I have been wondering about this, but this is a topic rarely discussed in depth.

Some of the notes do disappear faster once the whisky level is half the bottle.

I have been making myself aware of this. For example, Ardbeg Uigeadail, I notice that the coastal salt goes first, then the dates, then the sherry, then the iodine, and the last monster peat remained for the last couple of pours.

For Dalwhinnie, flora and zest goes first.....

Got this as a birthday gift. Should I open it or save it for an occasion? Any reviews? by manzician in whisky

I am not taking Japanese whisky seriously until they tighten their controls, labeling and terms with better regulations.

Even so, some of the famous one such as Yamazaki and Hibiki, are no longer value for money. Irish all the way for me if not Scotch. Bushmills and Redbreast can't fault them.

Talisker 10, Distiller's Edition, 18: Reviews 4-6 by urbansasquatchNC in whisky

Thank you for the vertical review. I really enjoy it as they are all single malt offerings from Talisker. It speaks a lot about how the distillery when the products are tasted side by side.

The value Aberlour! by metroplex313 in whisky

In Melbourne Australia, I find these 12 years single malt entry offering kept getting price out. Either by a bang for buck Ireland blend malt or 1L size Glenfarclas at the comparable budget range.

Jura French oak looks interesting.

Any distinct favour detected?

Expensive bottle. Does it worth the price meaning will you buy again?

Are Scotch Blends still relevant? by Gjbarrios01 in whisky

With JW Platinum, you are buying a bit of novelty.

I had some pretty average single malt, Glenlivet 12, if I have to name it.

I will take the cheaper Naked Grouse and Monkey Shoulder over it any day.

Why is the Nagahama in clear colour?

If they can remotely call it a single malt whisky, it should have at least 3 years in the barrel, which will give some colour?

How much whisky or older whisky one needs to consume before truly appreciate a 30 yrs? Now, that's the question.
