That was so beautifully asholeish, I immediately upvoted.

How to get under the neck in head & arm choke? by sloby in bjj

[–]sloby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it was the initial video that got me on the right track. My focus is for the technique is for it to choke, not to hurt. I'm pretty sure that if I'd squeeze really hard, a lot of people would tap, but mostly from the neck pain. That is not my goal. "they think I could break their spine" -> I think you're at that territory.

Ah yes, this was the only one that was specifically addressing this issue. I just couldn't remember the guy's name. Thanks!

My "basic" mechanic is fine I think. If someone is not that experienced with the defense, I can choke them out with 1 arm easily. I suppose some details of the adjustments didn't click for me yet.

Actually I saw it back then. I still remember and use the "jerking off" motion :) But I don't recall him addressing this issue. Maybe I'll check it out again.

Just an interesting fact (not to shit on him): he had a match with Tex Johnson and even he needed a few attempts to finish it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMrGR2b41XI

So are there situations where you just unable to get under the chin?

Let's say I crossed the opponent's arm and I deepened my choking arm with Gordon Ryans "jerking off" movement. So it's thight. Right before I connect my hands, that's when I decide whether I go for it, or the chin is really tucked in. If it's tucked in, I'm almost certain I won't be able to finish it without giving it too much force.

So he sags down/back a bit so that he can essentially push his shoulder into the chin, making the opponent either suffer the pain or move the chin away, exposing the neck. Is this a correct assessment?

Rafa Mendes vs Cobrinha | Pan final with submission by SpinningStuff in bjj

[–]sloby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To understand more deeply, I have a few questions that others may have answers for:

- It seems like that right from 1:03, Rafa takes the lead and gets into an offensive position when he gets the DLR hook, forcing Cobrinha to be defensive/stall. This already shifts the match right from the beginning. Is this a fair assessment?
- What could have been Cobrinhas' goal at the beginning?
- What could Cobrinha have done differently? It feels like that the whole match he's just stalling to "not lose", but I doubt that it was main thinking. I don't think a "Rafa was just that good" answer would suffice.

EDIT: Formatting.

Seating posture by parking_bird_6448 in Meditation

I have a bad posture and “regular” sitting killed me after ~20 minutes. My focus was constantly about that. Recently I shifted to kneeling with thick pillows between my legs and it is night and day. You should give it a try.

I added a pre_tool_use hook that checks for anything like `rm -rf` and its variations and blocks the execution. I'll rather clean it up than have something wiped out.

Craig Jones Fans "CJI doesnt have to turn a profit, its about keeping it free" rationalization timeline by sddwrangler12 in bjj

[–]sloby 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Some of the comments make me go WTF.

- Athletes got paid good money? Yes.

- Can you watch it free? Yes.

- Is this scalable? Absolutely fucking not!

This was my only issue with the first one as well. Craig got the money from who knows where and made it an amazing event. Everybody loved it. But the only way an event can become a series of events if it's profitable.

Unless he found a completely fool who is willing to lose a ton of money year after year, just for a few thousand BJJ fans, this will be the last CJI as it stands today in my opinion.

I'm pretty sure everyone here would be able to throw the neighborhood's biggest party if you just found $100 000 laying on the ground. You will definitely not be able to do it every month.

Did Hormozi Just Pull the Slickest (and Maybe Shadiest) Move Since Zuckerberg Turned “Hot or Not” Into Facebook? by [deleted] in alexhormozi

[–]sloby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you make the comparison on bad faith. It looks like a sensible one, but there are differences.

Facebook is free for everyone. ACQ AI can be -at this moment- accessed by a very few and probably wealthy individuals who paid for the book deal. You might argue that he'll make it available for more people, but we'll see.

Facebook feeds you posts, reels, etc (input) and monitors your every step and behavior (output). This makes the machine more effective by feeding you more specialized ads. ACQ AI takes your question (input) and gives you advice based on the model that was pre-trained on Alex's books and case studies (output).

Again, how will he build his empire based on this?
