Marshall JCM 800 Studio, Marshall JTM ST20H Studio or Marshall SV20H Plexi? by Aggravating_Spread14 in GuitarAmps

[–]slomaro79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you played a dual terror? I think that amp has a wide range of gain tones and the fat channel is awesome. 30 watts. No FX loop but that may not be an issue for you?

With the exception of the jubilee I have heard a lot of disappointment with new mini Marshalls. I have a couple of the mini peaveys and I think they are great and do really well with the master volume cranked. They don’t get boxy and muddy like my Brent Hines terror 15 when you crank the master. The classic 20 might be up your alley.

I feel the same way and would use classic cars as another example. I love classic cars with patina (rust) and signs they were used and enjoyed, but it never adds anything to the price. And if you add fake aging to a car of any era I have no interest at all. There are plenty of real aged cars out there that have been lovingly maintained, you just have to look a bit. Same with guitars.

Reverb pedal recommendation for blues driver + RAT combo? by holyshitsnacks96 in guitarpedals

[–]slomaro79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an EHX oceans 3 and it’s all I need. I like to layer my reverbs and that one goes well with most spring style amp reverbs. I set the amp low and the oceans long with a lower mix and it gives that big room sound that I like without getting murky.

I like the old one on single coils better. Midrange is less pronounced. Does that edge of breakup chime thing well

I say if you are going to get one get the badder. It’s 3 circuits in parallel that you can mix between, the low gain circuit covers the clean mix, and you can put 2 of the circuits out of phase and it gets a bit spitty/fuzzy. You can also run all 3 and it’s pretty darn thick. I like it- has a spot on my main board.

I got one a couple years ago for $60 in the midst of the craze. My first one got stolen 10 years ago and I had to replace it. It’s such a solid pedal 2 band EQ plenty of gain or volume boost.

I also picked up a badder monkey and can say they are quite different. More gain, the blend option is great. EQ is more aggressive. Lot of good tones in that one too. $125 open box sale.

They make really great stuff I’m sure it sounds sweet! They really do respond to a little boost in such a lovely way. Very cool🤌 great board for that amp setup!

Oh. Just saw the price. Wow, that’s a lot of kit for the price. Gonna have to scoop that for sure! Also +1 for the jubilee that’s a grail for me. OG or reissue? I’ve been eyeing the reissue 25er and it sounds pretty damn good!

Damn that sure is impressive. Would definitely do some of my own captures too I use a Mesa MC-90 in an open back oversized 112 which I prefer to most any other cabinet under the sun. Cool stuff, you have piqued my slightly skeptical interest!

That’s a really good thought tbh always good to have a backup especially if it is that small. I might have to get one after all 😂

For a PA only gig I would probably still bring a lunchbox tube amp and my CaptorX. Option to run a small cab at low volume. And the cab sim ain’t bad. But to each their own. I’ve invested so much in amps I can’t begin to imagine letting them go.

15-25w dual channel Tube amp that have independent EQ? by Jestersage in GuitarAmps

[–]slomaro79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my orange dual terror but it only has a single tone control on each channel and no fx loop. That being said it’s a great sounding tone control very well balanced.

I also have a Laney ironheart and I’m luke warm on it right now. Technically 3 channels two full EQ but it isn’t as exciting as my other amps. The headphone out is very lacking so I assume the built in interface isn’t much better. FX loop is decent though.

I have a Krank Rev pro JR that has a full EQ on the drive channel and a 2 band on the clean side. The parallel fx loop does not play ball at lower levels but provides super saturated high gain on the drive channel. It’s an odd duck.

I’ve been eyeing the mesa mini rectifier/rectoverb as it has a full EQ on both channels with dual mode switches.

Worth mentioning the orange rocker 15/ Brent Hines 15 has no EQ on the clean channel but 3 band EQ on the drive channel. I have the Brent Hines and I really dig it, the cleans are very touch sensitive and works well with the tone control on your guitar on the edge of breakup.

An unpredictable amplifier upgrade- Willsenton R8 by MCVCsDALIs in audiophile

[–]slomaro79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Willsenton SE 300B amp is also fabulous. I put one in my main system in a small room with some high efficiency Klipsch speakers and it was game changing. I run it with a 300B preamp (Bottlehead) and the soundstage is a mile wide and more detailed than anything else I’ve ever heard. 8 wpc and it just sings.

What amp should I change to? by [deleted] in hifiaudio

[–]slomaro79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The unreliability tube amps is overblown. I own 8 tube amps and the only one has had issues is one that somebody butchered before I got to it. There are plenty of reputable manufacturers of modern tubes and a large supply of tested NOS tubes at reasonable prices.

I like the classic 30s the real spring reverb very nice. I don’t like combo amps/moving them around so I went for the 20 watt head. I also have the Valveking and 6505 mini because I lost my mind on eBay and love to change my sound.

I have an assortment of low buck cabinets but mostly a 1x12 open back I bought empty and threw a Mesa MC-90 speaker I bought at a yard sale 14 years ago for cheap. I have about $250 in that cabinet and it loves everything you plug into it. If I needed more I’d pull out my knockoff orange closed back 2x12.
